Park Avenue Tavern Ratings and Reviews
My experience with the restaurant was overall quite disappointing. I booked online and in the requests area said that this was for a birthday and asked to sit near a window. We were not seated near a window, and were actually seated way in the back of the restaurant in a separate room from the main area. Our waiter was not attentive, never checked on us. Bar tender was the one who finally came over and offered us more drinks. For a $200.00 bill for 4 people, the food was just average. I wouldn’t return and would not recommend it.
This place is not far from our apartment but somehow we hadn't tried it before and the reservation was an accident as I thought I was booking Park Avenue Cafe! No matter...we were not really disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was very eager to please. Do be aware though that it's not a fine restaurant in the sense that it's got a big bar with the table seating around it. There was a football game on the TVs at the bar and so quite noisy...a little less so after the game ended. I don't view this as a negative...in fact, it's fun. Just be aware. Definitely will go again.
Meet here every time I have lunch with a friend who works nearby. Would rather find another place, but it's too convenient for my friend.
The only reason I don't recommend this place: at lunch it's a mad-house. Noise level way high and it feels as if too many people are packed in even though it seems reasonably spaced out once one is seated. Food is fine though I'd avoid the "pretentious" ones (like an "all greens" salad with blue cheese and "maple bacon balsamic dressing" - dressing was fine but no substance except the occasional walnut to the salad). Pricing is fine; service was excellent - we were seated in a back section that was somewhat quieter than the wall of noise that hits one on entry during the lunch hour. So, if a very, very noisy, bustling place doesn't put you off - fine. Just be sure to make reservations.
Sat right away with OpenTable reservation at 8:30pm for 4 on Friday before Christmas. Ordered burrata and the tuna tartare to start, both fresh and delicious. For meal, had spicy fried chicken sandwich (spicy it was). Others had skirt steak and tomato bisque/grilled cheese which were awesome also. For dessert, we had the cookie skillet; they were out of creme brulet. Skillet was gooey and delicious! Overall, great meal and great ambiance.
As far as the experience of the restaurant it was great! Nice ambiance great food great friendly service but the open table experience was a bust. They did not honor the reservation and really didn’t give a reason why other than we booked it 30 min or so ahead. Then the clueless hostess kind of just left us to figure it out on our own so we grabbed a spot at the bar. Unfortunately my husband was on the end and some guys decided to use his space as a pick up corner for chicks and drinks. They really were not respecting our space and there was an entire bar rail on the street window side to hang out. The food and service made for a more enjoyable experience but a table would have been better for us on this night. Also bartenders were complaining to another guest about a new chef and menu which is a restaurant no no..I really enjoyed the food so not sure what the complaints are about. I would return to this restaurant for lunch or happy hour time.
Very buzzy tavern style restaurant in a convenient location. We had the spinach and artichoke dip for a starter with the eggplant fries...both delicious, the dip is super cheesy but with nice big chunks of artichoke. Loved the tavern salad with its lemon-truffle dressing and we (3 ladies) share an American burger and veggie-quinoa burger...both excellent. If you want to be able to have quieter ambiance for a conversation, ask for a table in the back room.
Came here for Thanksgiving dinner. I was left really impressed with their pre-fixed menu for the price. Everything we ate here was good. The restaurant has great ambience with low lighting and big windows so it feels really spacious. It's quiet and private feeling. Would definitely return!
Even though the staff was pleasant enough and the service ended up being reasonably efficient I still have to give a lower rating on that front as it took almost 15 minutes from when we were seated before anyone took our drink orders and I can never understand how places allow that to happen. Otherwise a decent neighborhood spot with a little better ambiance/vibe than your typical pub around grand central.
