About Paris Bistro - Chestnut Hill

Located in the middle of Philadelphia's charming Chestnut Hill neighborhood, Paris Bistro has made quite a splash since it opened in late January 2014. The setting and food are authentic bistro - the crowd is lively and the menu is reminiscent of the many bistros that dot Paris' arrondissement. Classics like cassoulet, coq au vin, steak frites and escargot are joined by more modern bistro fare like a beet and goat cheese salad and mustard-herb crusted salmon. Classic cocktails and signature "bistro cocktails" include La Bardot and Le Martini de Triomphe. The 85 bottle wine list covers all the major wine producing areas of France at very reasonable prices. And what would the bistro experience be without classic chocolate mousse and creme brûlée? All are served with a genuine warmth and true hospitality. Downstairs live Jazz plays Thursday through Sunday evenings with reservations available through the Paris Bistro Jazz Cafe Open Table page.

They have really gotten their act together. It is a fine restaurant. Our experience was heightened by Daniel, our server, who is a consummate professional. I do wish there was a Buche de Noel on the menu for dessert (hint, hint!).

A nice, cozy restaurant with a good selection of French wines and dishes. Everything we ordered was well prepared and tasty. French onion soup was great and mussels were terrific! We also enjoyed seafood appetizers: very fresh and light. Overall very quiet, romantic scene. Great for a date night or a romantic dinner.

I went to Paris Bistro for Sunday brunch with my partner and two friends. We were Germantown and wanted a brunch place nearby. I remember hearing that the Bynum Brothers' (South Kitchen, Warmdaddy's) place in Chestnut Hill was good, French, and had live music. We weren't disappointed (except for the music-- it was one guy playing Christmas carols on repeat). We started with the smoked salmon (5 out of 5) and crab & avocado (5 out of 5) terrines and then we had the pumpkin french toast (3 out of 5), the full french (4 out of 5), the norwegian eggs benedict (4 out of 5), and the croque madame (4 out of 5). The meal was good. I'd recommend it to a friend or group for brunch again for sure.

The restaurant was very nice. The service was good and the food was good. They were very accommodating as I added 3 more people at the last moment and they made it work. I would recommend this place to anyone who asks.

Another great experience at Paris Bistro. I have been here multiple times, and food and service have never failed to impress. Our party of 6 started with cold seafood platter, with very fresh jumbo shrimp, lump crabmeat and oysters. My entrée was the beef bourguignon, which was superb. The table shared 2 excellent bottles of the house beaujolais. Service is prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. For a romantic dinner, try dining in the jazz pub in the basement. Great ambience and music.

The staff seemed to be running all over the place. My escargot(appetizer) arrived at the exact same time my entree arrived, our friends portion of salmon was on the smallish side.

The burger was very good, arrived as I ordered it...rare and with the additions that I wanted. Had to wait quite a while for some other items.

We were disappointed this time. The seafood crepe already was unavailable (our reservation was at 6:30), and neither of the beers we ordered were available either. And despite several patrons' comments (ours and friend's) over several months, nothing has been done to improve the baguettes, which are served cold and which are tough, not crisp. Paris Bistro has been our favorite for years, and we hope this isn't an indication that it's going downhill.

Lovely atmosphere with delicious food and friendly service. Loved the mussels, steak frites, raw bar. Where they fall short is not knowing who ordered what when they bring out your food; they were wrong every time. It’s service 101.

We recently dined here for brunch before a show and found that Paris did not disappoint. We started with the tartines - the three of us split all four and they were delicious. Each one was prepared with unique combinations (including the pate with the pickled shallots) and each was better than the last. I had the Croque Madam and it was light and delicious. I also tried the Norwegian Eggs Benedict which had some heat and was also delicious. The French Press was strong bu t delicious. We are looking forward dining at Paris again!

This was our 3rd visit for brunch. The food is great here! Has a Parisian theme. Croque Monsuirre is delicious, as are the mimosas and cucumber bloody Mary’s. Live music (guitarist) plays during brunch. Service is great. Can’t wait to go back!

This was our second visit in two weeks having arrived from Wales. The servers and management recognised us and made our evening very convivial and pleasant replicating the Parisan life that we love to enjoy. We chose a French menu and highly recommend it.

This is a great find in Chestnut Hill, and the live music downstairs is great! You can also sit down there to dine if you'd like, and they have dining at the bar as well. Our food was very good, came quickly, not too expensive, and they catered to my dietary restrictions. We'll be back!

Thank you Al Paris for being there.

The Paris Bistro Cafe was everything I hoped for and more! It has a very authentic vibe of a Paris Jazz Bar. The top floor has a vintage feel and the bottom is a traditional style jazz cafe. The musicians were outstanding. The only drawback is a pole which slightly blocks the view. The food was phenomenal with lots of flavor representative of top French cuisine.

I was there to celebrate my friend's birthday as well as mine.
The waiters were extremely friendly.
The appetizers were all delicious.
My entrée, the trout, was the best I ever had.
We were all surprised when the waiter brought out "little birthday cakes" for me and my friend.
Overall fabulous experience.

Paris is a pretty good French bistro. The food is really good. The service is very pleasant. Food takes a long time to arrive - Don't know if that's slow service or personalized cooking.
Jazz cafe in the basement is great.

Really great food. Consistently good, with decent wines and great cocktails. A little noisy, but providing no serious conversations are needed it adds to the atmosphere.

Food, service, decor, comfortable seating, all good. The noise level though is not good. My friend did not realize that a guitarist had been playing until a lot of people had left. I only knew he there was because I saw him. He was very good but if the overall noise level drowns the music, it is not fair to the musician. But I will not turn down a chance to go for another meal. It is one of my favorite restaurants. I just wish they could fix the noise level.

We had an 11 o'clock reservation for a party of six. We were seated immediately, but then waited about 15 minutes to order drinks. We ordered waters for the table, two people were able to order coffee, and then the server took off again. Two coffees came, and then 4 more coffee orders went in. No additional cream or sugar was brought to the table, which we had to ask for twice.

An additional 20 minutes passed before we were able to order our entrees.
A few concerns with entree / side items:
- the "Full French," is advertised with two eggs, was only served with one, and when questioned, we were told it was a typo on the menu - but they would bring a second egg if the diner really wanted when. As it turns out, they did want what they had ordered... 15 minutes later, a new egg appeared.
- the "side" of bacon is served with only two pieces of bacon, small pieces, for $4 and it was also served room temperature
- coffee refills were only provided when we were able to flag down a server, and even then, sometimes the coffee was cold

We had indicated we had two gluten free diners in our party, but there were no gluten free menus provided. When we asked the server, they were unprepared to discuss gluten free options, had to check with the kitchen, then get back to us.

There was no soap in the women's restroom either times we entered, despite telling two front of house staff members about the lack of soap over the course of the 90 minutes we were inside.

Upon finishing our meal, we had the frites from the Breakfast Burger boxed up. They were completely untouched by the diner. When we returned home, it was realized that only half of the frites were boxed up. Not a real problem, by any means, just another oversight by the wait staff.

This was our first brunch experience at Paris, and it felt like one problem after another, centered on the wait staff. I don't know that we will return.
