About

Paragon at the Claremont in Berkeley is a neighborhood gastropub that serves craft beers, specialty cocktails, unique wines and a number of amazing, ingredient-driven dishes.

If you just want a small bite to eat while enjoying a brew at Paragon, order the sweet and spicy nuts. The Paragon mac and cheese is also incredible. Its made with rosemary and white cheddar. Youll also want to try the pistachio tart; it has a well-deserved reputation thanks to the cream cheese, shallot and caviar used. For something more substantial, the fried chicken is easy to recommend. Otherwise, the fish and chips are both delicious and fitting for the pub-like dcor.

On our way to the theater a friend and I stopped off for a burger and mojito and to enjoy the view. The view was beautiful, the mojitoes good, but we were treated like poor relatives. First our table was not ready so we were shuffled off to a cold corner, then we could not get anyone's attention when we saw others being seated in the dining area. Finally I got up and went up to the reception desk where, not the hostess but a kind waiter, helped us to find a table for dinner. The service in that spot was excellent, but the hostess needs an attitude adjustment.

We had a great time at Paragon. Great food, great service, elegant facility. It was a joy to dine with people with manners. No screaming children, no rude loud mouths, no people playing with their cell phones, just calm, cool and collected diners and employees. We dined at sunset and enjoyed the lovely view. It was quiet and introspective and so relaxing and enjoyable. No blaring music, just happy, well mannered patrons, as it should be! Our server, Che, was wonderfully attentive, accurate and patient (one in our party was hard of hearing) he was always polite and never seemed rushed or distracted. Serivice as it should be! We'll be back.

Overall we were very happy with our dining experience. In the beginning it was very loud but as the evening went on the noise reduced and became much more enjoyable. Also, the service in the beginning was slow but like the noise got better as the evening progressed. The food and drinks were delicious. We will definitely come back.

Menu selection is not ample, but is adequate. Good variety.
Skip the desert - nothing special.
We dined with children and the server offered to fake the mac and cheese that they didn't eat off the check. He was also very attentive overall. Five stars for service.

Paragon has become my "go to" place when entertaining out of town guests or for grabbing a bite with friends or family. The view is great, the food is great, and usually the service is great. And if the weather is tolerable, you can sit out on the deck with views of the bay and SF, which is a big plus. Not too many other places can offer this!

The restaurant felt cramped, the seats were very hard, and the noise level was high, so trying to soften these issues would be an improvement It felt like a lunchroom but with dinner house prices...especially the bar menu.

Wow, the food has gotten so much "wider" in selection and taste! For lunch I had grits and shrimp with shrimp sauce-I was in heaven! Also a kale salad which wasn't "crunchy", more like lettuce leaves.

A truly vibrant lunch which really impressed me! Elliot was our server and he couldn't have been more professional-unlike many servers, he didn't hoverby the table and ask how our meal was a dozen times!

Really, can you tell? I am truly impressed!

The steak was so-so. A16 has them beat by a mile. The tuna had no flavor which was a bummer. The room was so loud you could hardly hear my friend at the table. For the level this restaurant is supposed to be at, I give it a C+

My entree was one of the best things I have ever had in my life! On the spot, I ordered a second serving to be packed up to take home. Servers were helpful and manager even stopped by for a chat.

I love this place. I've been a few times since I got married at the Claremont in 2002. The Paragon is our special little place to relax and enjoy good food and ambiance! Great Spot!

time after time, we have gone to paragon for a meal and we had to wait forever!!! to get out of the gate. it is broken 95% of the time. prepare to wait at least 1/2-45 minutes to find someone to come down to the gate and manually let you out. i have talked to management numerous time and it is still the same. although paragon is a nice place to eat, i won't be going back until they fix the gate situation. it has been this way for years. too bad.

My wife and I stayed overnight at the Claremont. We live locally and frequent the Paragon approximately 4 times per year. We always find the outside service to be quite poor. The servers always appear to be overwhelmed... or maybe it's just underwhelmed by their job. It takes forever to get served. The staff seems poorly trained at their position and not greatly interested in you as a paying customer.
The food is just okay. My $15.00 hamburger really seemed like it was a preformed, previously frozen patty. For $15.00 one would expect a "solid", fresh burger. We enjoy the view and, as I said, we are local. We will probably return for a cocktail or glass of wine in the future, but our expectations will not be high.

Disappointed with multiple things: Self-parking was non-existent at 11 AM! (drove & drove looking for an empty spot and finally found one after 10 minutes of searching; Waitresses attired as if they had just returned from the mall vice working for a multi-million dollar "Club" (uniforms definitely suggested); food was absolutely horrid (small amounts, tasteless and no bread to accompany meal); condition of the restaurant (outdoors) definitely in need of fresh paint/maintenance. Last note: I've been to the Claremont many times in the past but am sad to say this is the most unpleasant visit to date. Will probably avoid in the future until new management comes aboard. Sad--it was such a sophisticated and snazzy place to visit in the day.

Cool spot, wonderful view. Definitely will not forget this birthday dinner. Great service, just got 1 meal wrong and by the time it came out, the rest of us were finished.
