We've enjoyed several meals at the sister restaurant- Izumi, that's what led us to trying Paradisio. We typically dine out for Christmas Eve and the 7 Fishes feast. We usually go to a different restaurant, this year we opted for a change. First impression- the room was VERY crampped. We ordered drinks. I ordered a gin martini with olives - the drink arrived without olives. I had to ask the waiter 3x for the olives ($12.00 martini). We also ordered a bottle of wine that was served & kept in a standing ice bucket. Everytime the hostess went to seat a table, she would relocate the ice bucket completely out of reach of the table. At one point it was 2 tables away, and in the corner. We paid $50.00 for the bottle. Service at this place was pretty bad to say the least. The food was "OK" but nothing to go crazy over. The 7 Fish menu seemed to be decent, but delivery of each item provided luke warm plates of room temperature food. In cases where the serving was delivered "Family Style" we were given a portion that could barely accommodate 2 people. Our bill came to $452.00 for 4 (1 bottle wine, 1 martini, 2 beers + the 7 Fish Feast). Never again. We'll go back to the other place instead.
The food and service are always delicious here - Lynn is a great chef.
We were five (including a nine year old) for my B'day on a Sunday night and were the last to leave. Not only was the dinner excellent (Bronzino, Duck, Gnocchi) but our server was very good and we were not rushed and encouraged to relax over our coffee and dessert (chocolate something and apple something- both excellent).
Everything was absolutely wonderful. The three of us shared four appetizers and two pasta dishes and it was more than enough; (though I must say we finished every bite). I truly loved each dish; if I had to pick only one to most highly recommend, with some difficulty I would choose the wild mushroom pappardelle.
We have been to Paradiso many times and it never disappoints. The food is always fresh, creative, and offers an elegant approach to Italian cuisine. Not a red gravy type of place. The extensive menu changes with the seasons, but always provides a number of seafood and meat entrees and lovely pasta dishes. The appetizers are exceptional Service is professional - you don't even realize your every need is being taken care of. The wine list is extensive, but mark-up is fairly high. The owner, Lynn Rinaldi, was a pioneer on this stretch of Passyunk in South Philly, but the restaurant stays fresh and interesting. This is a perfect date night spot, or take business associates to impress.
It was our first time dining there and it will definitely not be our last! The overall experience was fantastic from beginning to end. The food was delicious and we tried plenty of dishes since there were seven of us. The service was on point, the staff was very attentive and our water glass was never empty. My only disappointment was that I left no room for dessert. But I will definitely make sure that doesn't happen the next time we return. :)
Restaurant wasn't crowded and we dined out front. Food was very good. Portions weren't huge but they were appropriate. Dessert was great.
The only criticism I would have would be to have better single glass wine selections similar to their full bottle wine list.
My husband and I had our 14th Wedding Anniversary dinner here on June 21, 2017 and the food, cocktail and service was superb. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. Our food was served hot and cooked to perfection. I forgot to get our server's name but he was very attentive and his cocktail and appetizers suggestions were excellent. Thanks for a memorable night.
Great night out at Paradiso with some friends from out of town. The staff was wonderful. Great wine. Some dishes were outstanding, some were good. Smallish menu, but covered a broad array of tastes & there was definitely something that made each person happy. Loved the ambiance & friendly atmosphere!
Paradiso is a wonderful restaurant. Delicious Italian fare with some great pastas, antipasto and entrees. The scallop and mushroom risotto special was unbelievable. I hope they add it to their regular menu. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. This is one of the most well run restaurants in the city. The bar is also great for a before or after dinner drink.
We have been here before and came back for something I can't find any place else: tripe! It didn't disappoint. The whole meal was excellent but I wasn't feeling great so I couldn't finish either the appetizer or the entree so took both home and they were even better the next day!
Didn't know Sunday was BYOB. Will absolutely go back again!
This is hands down one of the worst experiences I've had on Passyunk Ave. The service was awful and the place wasn't even crowded. The waitress brought my fiance the wrong entree and then laughed it off and proceeded to charge us for the original item, that cost more. Did not offer any apologies, or try to make the situation better in any way. Don't waste your time/money here. The food isn't even that special.
Dinner was great. I had the prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella salad as an app, the pork chop Milanese for an entree and the apple pie for desert. My friend had the Caesar salad, short rib and chocolate budino. All were excellent. Dylan was our server and was spectacular. Aaron behind the bar was wonderful as well as we got there early for a drink. You will not be disappointed dining here!
2 couples went during Restaurant Week. What a find! The appetizers were wonderful. I had the Escargots in Tomato Sauce--the tomato sauce was the freshest I've ever had and the escargots were tender. The grilled Romaine was light and delicious. For the main course, the Seafood Stew was likewise made with a fresh tasting tomato sauce and just the right amount of seasoning and spice. My son thoroughly enjoyed his Short Ribs which properly fell off the bone. I had the Bombolini for dessert--what fun!- little sweet dough balls rolled in cinnamon/sugar spice (I think) and served with a creamy sauce. The other three enjoyed their apple tarts. Our server was pleasant and very attentive without being intrusive and the wines by the glass were appropriate matches with the menu. The surroundings were not crowded (as one often finds in town) and we were able to hold conversations at a normal level. We will be back!
Not one to typically go out during restaurant week, I decided to change things up.
Never heard of this place, but the menu looked intriguing and decided to give it a shot.
The service was great, the food was great, the atmosphere was great... until a lady came in with a dog.
She decided to stand by the open kitchen with a dog in her arms, and proceeded to chat with the chef for a solid 15-20 mins. I kept thinking to myself, "Why is a dog near the kitchen and when are they going to ask her to leave?". After some time, I no longer see her by the kitchen, but then hear a loud bark and she's at the bar with the dog!
I'm sure she's friends with somebody there, hence not being asked to leave, but that in and of itself put a bad taste in my mouth.
Food was prepared poorly. Pasta with crab was dry and very starchy. Not delicate
The pasta disch with mushrooms had no sauce and also very dry. Refills o wine sat on. At for 10 min before delivery Disappointing with price charged for the meal. The bronzino was good. Probably stick with fish.
