That fine tradition continues today with the Paradise Landing Restaurant and Bar - an environment that captures the love of the water, the beauty of the north woods and the camaraderie of both life at the lake & the Balsam Lake Community.
Something nice but relaxed, the way lake people are. Paradise Landing is big enough for everyone around the lake to drop in with food worth coming off your pontoon for.
Whether in one of the dining rooms, the bar or on the patio, there is a piece of ‘Paradise’ that everyone can enjoy.
Sorry, but even though this was a recommended place to go, I would not advise it. The service was very slow. Clearly not enough wait staff that evening. There was a loud party going on in a hall, so it would have been prudent to have more staff working that evening. We had a party of 4 with reservations. We ordered 2 appetizers, which were not very generous for 4 (cheesecurds and calamari) , and took over 30" to arrive. The entree's also were very delayed. Two filets at $32 each, were tough and one was overdone. Baked potatoes accompanied 3 meals, with no butter or sour cream on the plates, nor were they provided. We used the dressing on the appetizers for the condiment for the potatoes. The waitress noted there was nothing for the potatoes, but never brought any. The pecan crusted walleye was very good, but asparagus was asked to be naked without pepper. It came peppered. I had to remove it. On the plus side, the alfredo with shrimp was excellent. So, for 4 with 2 appetizers and some beers, it was $160. Service was terrible, food overpriced. The building is very nice with a gorgeous setting. I think you should pay more attention to the customer!
Food took over an hour.
The hostess was super outgoing and greeted us with a smile and kindness. Our waitress Stella was extraordinary, kind and efficient. I feel she really took care our table and delivered food as quickly as the kitchen prepared it (which was slowish on a busy night). We were a table of 8. In all fairness this Friday night was practically busy and had several 8-12 person tables that were full. My son's steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. One person in our party had black overdone toast on his "Rachel" sandwich and Stella offered to remake the sandwich. The drinks were promptly served and Stella asked to order more when drink contents were low. The ambiance at Paradise Landing is why I go there and I would go again. We had a beautiful private table overlooking Balsam Lake. I couldn't have asked for more for my family and friends. Thank you.
Thank You Diane for a glowing review and we agree that Stella is always a great asset to our staff!
We were there for Sunday brunch. Some food was overcooked, but the buffet was always empty they could not keep the buffet full. I don’t know if they were missing chefs or what the problem was But it is one buffet that I will not rush back to. Our server was very nice very polite I’d give her five stars.
It was fun to return to PL. it had been a few years, but the setting outside on the lake was great!! We had an excellent server, were immediately seated, and had a great time. The prices are a bit steep for salads, but the food was very good. We will be back again this summer!! Thanks!!
Thank you very much for the recommendation! We are very happy that you spent some of your Holiday Weekend with us at Paradise! Thank you for giving a shout out to us about your server---she is definitely a great asset to us at Paradise Landing! Hope to see you soon!
Nice place to sit and dine. Food is good but need more choices for potatoes on meals.
Thank you for the recommendation! We usually have one potato option a night, beside french fries! I will definitely bring your suggestion to the Chef! Have a great weekend!
You must fix the poor, very slow service. Server was not friendly either. Food was excellent, but we literally waited an hour for it. Overall, we would hesitate to come back because of these reasons.
Thank you Kathryn for you review! We at Paradise are constantly trying to improve every aspect of our service, food and bar items that we serve! I do hope you give us another try! When you come in please ask for Kelly, I am the front of house manager and I would love to show you how Paradise normally operates, we are always concerned when we get a bad review of one our Servers and try our hardest to get the best of the best! Hope to see you soon---thank you---Kelly!
The view is specular with boats coming and going. The sunset was prefect. We sat by the fireplace out side and enjoyed the relaxing evening for Father's Day. The food was great. The bar area inside was noisy and active.
Thank you Jan for your review!! We do have an awesome view of Balsam from almost any seat on the patio! I think we are blessed with gorgeous sunsets 6 out of 7 nights a week! Hope to see you again soon! Kelly and the staff at Paradise Landing!
Happy to report the food was good, service was good, contrary to recent reputation. Sadly at 7:00 Saturday we were one of only of two tables eating on the patio, and the dining room was completely empty.
Hopefully with good food and good service the reputation will turn around and people will come. Such a beautiful building and great location, we would love to depend on Paradise for our dinner option.
Absolutely awful service and the restaurant was out of A LOT of food. We ended up canceling our dinner order after the server was incredibly rude.
The food was much improved from our last visit. Our server was friendly and attentive. The buffet was cold and the selection was slim. The taste of the food was decent.
I've always enjoyed the food at Paradise. However, the Easter brunch was subpar. The price compared to the amount of food options was way too high. Other area brunches ranged from $16 to $20 and there were MANY more food options at others. Also, the gravy for the biscuits and gravy was like water. Either the buffet needs to be added to or the price needs to be lowered. I will probably not attend another brunch there in the future.
We had a group of 8 and it was our firt time at Paradise Landing, we had heard good things about it. 5 of us ordered fillets and they were all over cooked and didn't taste that great. The chicken was just o.k. The server was nice but a lot of the time we were waiting for drinks. Overall, we were disappointed and over priced. It's location and ambiance was very nice but not worth it for us.
We took my 98 year old mom to Paradise Landing to celebrate both Thanksgiving and her birthday. They were so wonderful to her; Thanksgiving dinner was fabulous and the service was perfect. Paradise Landing is consitently superb with both food and service.
The food was not as good as last time. The batter on the fish was very salty, the prime rib was too fatty, the chocolate cake was dry and flavorless. We were very happy with our first dining experience, but this one was disappointing.
They ran out of white zinfandel. Never heard of a restaurant running out of any type of liquor. Had to order something else. Not happy.
This is the second time we ate at the restaurant. I love the scenic view and I would recommend for that reason. The food is fair. The first time I ordered the chicken parmasean, and I would not order or recommend. My husband did not like the salmon dish. The service needs to be upgraded.
Beautiful building with excellent lake view! "Up north" look and feel. Reservations for large group of 13 easily and wonderfully accomodated for 50th Birthday (loved the huge round table w/lazy Susan! - also option of separate room). Steaks, ribs, prime rib, chicken dishes excellent. Waitress suggested walley w/pecan - 3 of us had it and none of us like it. Burger was good but not special. Rest of group enjoyed their food. One person had ribs and said they were the best she ever had! Sevice was okay - mixed up 3 items in orders, had to ask multiple times to get this resolved. Very friendly staff. Pretty patio for a less cool/windy day. Very nice place for the area.
Most of the food was good but the fingerling potato salad served to two of the people in our party did not receive a good review - very "blah."
We enjoyed our meal on the patio, but as the sun set we found it to be very dark and we could hardly see the bill to pay. We had to ask for a candle for our table.
We feel the patio should have a little more lighting to make the ambiance better.
Need a bigger parking lot, come early!
It was fantastic. Great food & service in a beautiful area and a beautiful building.
Slow service...food very average. Expensive for quality and quantity of food. Our waiter had too many tables. He was literally running across the restaurant trying to manage all of them.
my son had the chicken strips..they were not that good. the salmon was great. My husband had a steak and he loved it. It came with a salad but he couldn't beleive that he had to pay extra for the casear salad. The salads are good but pricey at $13.
Absolutely superb on every level!
I was disappointed that they were not able to accommodate my request to be seated outside but we did have a nice table inside. food was very good and we had lots of fun. good service
Had a very nice Anniversary dinner there, very busy place, but the staff made us feel right at home. The fish fry was wonderful...
Excellent food in a 1st class atmosphere
MapQuest took us to the wrong place. We had to stop and ask directions. Signage was poor.
It was a hidden place to did but well worth it. Food was great, had live music and lakeside view. It was perfect! Would definitely go back, wish it was connected to a lodge to stay.
The food was excellent - only two negatives - the room was very cold and my husband was not happy with the way his baked chicken was served - placing the chicken on top of the mashed potatoes and gravy. He would have preferred to have the chicken placed next to his chicken. Thank you for asking for our comments.
Worst place I've even eaten. It took them 40 mins to cook 1 steak and prepare 1 salad. Food was terrible. Will never go back.
The Mother's Day Brunch was truly amazing, very nice place. We would recommend this to our friends.
We had a lovely Easter brunch with great service. Staff were especially helpful to my elderly mother and helped to replenish her plate from the buffet. We enjoyed the mimosa, omelet bar, eggs benedict, salads, chicken parmesan and prime rib. Nice salads and fruit to complete our choices with breads and other choices. We'll be back.
The food was very good, but the seating seemed impersonal as we were seated on a bench with tables, somewhat like a Cafe. Could have been a little more intimate. Lighting was a little bright for a Valentines dinner atmosphere and the music was a little loud and top 40-ish. For the price, those things could use improvement, but again, the food was very good and the server was warm, friendly and knowledgable.
One of favorite spots, everyone in our party was very pleased with Paradise.
Service was excellent so was the food, seated near one of the many fireplaces and still had a view of the lake w/all the winter activity.I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Our group of six was seated at a nice round table next the the fireplace tucked into a quiet corner with a view of the outdoor patio/firepit and lake. Lovely! Other than the nachos appetizer, the rest of our food was very good. Worth the trip!
The Sunday AM Brunch is very tasty and resonably priced. Great ambiance. It is the "off-season" right now, so the place was fairly empty, but still a great morning experience.
Great Experince. Staff was nice and helpful. Food was Great. We went during the Halloween weekend and they had a horse carriage ride with the headless horseman. It was a nice touch.
Food was excellent, service great, atmosphere great.
