Great meals for each course and portions. Service was a bit slow between courses. Good wine selection.
Great food, great service, reasonably priced wine menu.
It was a really great place to be. Even it was a bad rainy day.
Very fun place. Food was good, and our server was super friendly.
Date, special occasion, and also friends get together, I think I will have a great time.
Hands down, the best food I have had in Alameda! It’s an intimate space with a great decor; exposed brick & wood. We sat at the bar, which was stocked with the most amazing collection of liquors. The bartender was friendly and made some old fashions that were on point!
The food was balanced and flavorful. The portions were just enough. Liver pate was really lovely; just the right texture. The duck leg was tender and perfectly seasoned.
John, the owner, took the time to converse with us, when he wasn’t busy running the best spot in town. It was a pleasure.
Please, go!!!! Highly recommended!!!
I got the gnocchi which was literally mush. Good flavors but I couldn’t even tell what was a gnocchi as they had basically disintegrated within the dish. Not good gnocchi texture. Won’t be going back but loved our waitress and the environment, just wished the food had been a little better.
What a perfect night! Everything on the menu is delicious, can’t go wrong! Delicious specials too!
The special Menu meal was awesome. Meatballs were to die for.
This by far the best special dinner (meatballs and penne) meal the restaurant has offered. It was generous from salad to dessert The meats ball were above par excellence. Please offer the meal again!
Great food options, great service and I've been here twice and will definitely make a return visit.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and really good food. Portions aren't huge but you won't leave looking for more. This is my go to restaurant when I feel like a reasonably priced evening out with family & friends.
First time visit. The whole experience was worth every penny!
It never fails, every time we have gone, they are out of whatever one of us orders. We even went earlier this time thinking maybe they just run our after 7pm. From their regular menu, their specials, their market menu, even dessert menu. This will be are last time, so many other reliable restaurants in Alameda.
Service was stellar, cocktails scrumptious, food was delicious! Lovely way to celebrate a birthday!
Great for casual night out, with or without friends! Nice menu and wine list. Great service.
A wonderful dining experience with great food and great service. Food was exceptional
Pappo's never disappoints. Another delicious meal with plenty of time to make it to the theatre.
We had a very nice meal at Pappo. We started with a shared caesar salad which was very good and fresh. I had house made pappardelle pasta with bolognese which was very good, but had a little too much tomato taste for me. My wife had native halibut which she really liked a lot. We each had a glass of wine from a well curated list. Both of us had an affogatto for desert which were prepared at the table with house made vanilla gelato which was very good. I would recommend this restaurant.
The food was delicious and our server was friendly and efficient. The problem was how long it took to receive our food. We sat down for a 6:15 reservation and ordered a salad to share and wine. We did not receive the entree we planned to split until 7:20. It was a problem as we had to make an 8:00 show in Oakland so we had to ask for our entree to be packed to go. Our server apologized but no other concessions were made. The gnocchi was delicious but didn’t plan on eating it in the back of a cab.
Great dinner with my Wife here. Every portion of each disk was excellent, something I can't say about any recent dining experiences. The salt levels were assertive without going over the top (although it was close)
Excellent meal, great service, cozy ambiance - purely delightful!
Pappo has never failed to impress, in the dozen years I've lived in Alameda. On this occasion I was looking for the perfect little romantic spot to celebrate two years with the bf (and also impress him with Alameda's unexpected cuisine, since he is a SF native). ;-) It did the trick! We accidentally booked during Alameda Restaurant Week and were convinced by the diner next to us to try the duck (I'm usually not a fan, re: fattiness). It was delicious, tender, NOT fatty, and the only duck I've ever liked. Yes to Pappo!
Ribeye was tasty but was cold and served on cold plate. They did accommodate menu entree item changes for low carb alternative. Expensive “WAGyu” burger with bone marrow” $17 then you charged additional for cheese and anything else - while it was tasty the burger came to $20 with the extras and you just feel ripped off.
This was our second time dining at Pappo’s. The duck was amazing.
Excellent restaurant! All of our meal’s were amazing.
Good local restaurant with a good atmosphere. Great food with a good selection and great service.
* Relatively easy to reserve a table
* Starters--esp. ALL of them!
* Tuna is amazeballs
* Mains (Salmon, Pork chop, Spareribs)
* Wine list is limited but curated by chef from private cellar around popular mains
* Desserts--not your grandma's bread pudding--it's even better! The nostalgic taste is there but with modern lightness and house-made sea salt Carmel
* Gelatos are delish, esp if you're an espresso fan
* Excellent capuccino
So, yeah, pretty much everything!
* Butternut soup was just so
* They're about to get a whole lot busier--may get hard to get into
I ordered from their restaurant week menu, and I think that was a good deal. The duck was very tasty, the flourless chocolate cake was very soft. My friend ordered from the a la carte menu because she wanted the salmon. I had a taste of that and was pleasantly surprised to find the skin crispy. How they were able to cook that without tearing the skin was beyond me. My friend said she would be coming back so she could order the duck. It was my first time there, and I definitely would be back, possibly for a special occasion.
It always seems they are out of what we were hoping to order. Once duck, then steak, last week pasta. We should learn to go before 7:30pm. Our second choice has always been fantastic, their chef is magnificent.
Fay was so sweet and the food was good! The burrata!!!! Yummmmy!!!!
Nice place, great staff. I called and told them I was running a litttle late and they understood and we didn’t lose our reservation or had to wait despite it being busy.
Food was ok. Shared the bolognese and short ribs with my wife. Tasty but for the amount paid I would like to have been blown away
Love this place. One of the best restaurants in Alameda
What a delightful and delicious way for us to honor my son’s Jewish roots—a Chanukah dinner@Pappo’s!!! Wish we could’ve had seconds of your heavenly brisket!!! 😍
The food waswell prepared, service was great and nice wine selection.
Delicious food, wonderful service. Cozy. Highly recommend. Will return, again…
If you go there, get the gnocchi, it's to die for!!!
I love dining here! The food was amazing, as usual and the service was good. It’s always packed on a weekend night, but service was prompt. I miss the olives!!
Was seated next to the bar that had several loud people standing up and kept bumping into a couple of us. We could hardly hear each other so we would that very unpleasant.
One of the best in Alameda. Definitely will repeat.
Outstanding dinner experience. Every bite was superb and the service was impeccable. Truly one of the best meals in the Bay Area.
My husband and I have never been to Alameda. So first of all, that was a lovely surprise - an neighborhood oasis among the hustle bustle of Oakland, CA. Pappo was a wonderful dining experience. The server was very helpful with locating dairy free options, and there were lots from which to choose. The food was delicious. I especially liked the mushroom soup--creamy, without any cream! The ambience was warm and inviting. I would definitely go back.
