Service started off great, but declined as it got busier. Wait person distracted with "friend" patrons. Waiting painfully to get on with the end of dinner and move on to dessert and/or coffee, then the bill.
It wasn't horrible, servicer should be more attentive towards others.
The meal was prepared very well and the services was great. Have been here many times and tehy never fail to impress.
Coming to this Alameda neighborhood Gem is always a delight! From the moment I arrive I’m made to feel like family, and immediately greeted warmly. Giuseppe makes the rounds among his guests with time to make us all feel special! The food is always top notch!
Noise level is deafening and when diners began to leave the manager put on mind-numbing rock music nd refused to lower the volume or change the genre, even after 2 polite requests on my part. Id rather die then go there again!
Great experience. Wait staff was great. Knowledgeable and friendly.
Had a really, really good dinner. The halibut was the best I've ever had. Melt in your mouth kind of meal!
We felt quite at home. Servers and staff were gracious and efficient. I had the marker meal which evidently is available on Thursday events. It was quite delicious. The chicken was slightly over cooked, but tasty nonetheless. I’ll surely return.
Our server was superb. A great overall experience.
Yes, I would recommend Pappo to a friend with reservations that if I do, they will and I won't be able to get in for months! We love Pappo - it's our favorite place to treat ourselves.
Lovely for our family graduation dinner!
Always great service and great food at Pappo.
We were seated promptly and the waitress took our cocktail and appetizer order. While we waited for them to be delivered we decided on our mains. When the cocktails came we ordered our dinners. The time passed way too quickly. We chatted with our friends and enjoyed wonderful food. The duck risotto, pappardelle pasta, halibut and gnocchi were excellent. Nice wine selection and great desserts. Will definitely return.
Perfect on everything except the burger was way over cooked. We especially appreciate how welcoming everyone is at Pappo’s. Thank you.
Good meal, fun night, a little awkward as we are not a super “conventional looking” family...feels like it took a while for the servers to warm up to us. Ugh. Sorry I don’t wear 100 dollar bills on my coat. Food was good. Everything was great
Amazing food and service. Our server was really attentive
Excellent service, environment, libations and food.
It's been a while since I've eaten here, they've changed the décor and the new look is very nice. The food was absolutely great I almost ordered another plate to go lol. I highly recommend this restaurant hands down.
Pappo is a lovely place. I would make some recommendations, however. Because it is such a noisy place, particularly in the evening, if it’s possible to take out 2-3 tables so it’s not so crowded, I think that would help a good deal. if you’re thinking about doing something about the noise level, which is really intense, replacing the tile floors with wood, or some kind of modern very nice marmoleum would help, as would replacing the brick walls. Noise really bounces of of these. Varying the menu a bit at different meal times would be a good thing to do. Otherwise, it’s a lovely restaurnat
My husband and I often dine at Pappo. We like the seasonal menus, their specials and especially love the duck dishes.
I always love Pappo. The food is consistently great. The service is personal, familiar and prompt. The atmosphere is warm and appropriately lit. This is my favorite restaurant in Alameda.
Wonderful food at every course, truly lovely staff, and an unhurried, welcoming atmosphere. This is a real neighborhood gem, with familiar menu choices served creatively. Portions are in the “Goldielocks” zone of neither to large, nor too small. Wine list was fairly priced, and the cocktails should please just about anyone. Try the “Princess Leia” to start. The homemade pappardelle did not disappoint.
Pappo's is one of our favorite restaurants! Located in the heart of Alameda it is small enough to have a wonderful friendly atmosphere with servers who remember you and welcome you back at each visit Chef John is excellent and his special market dinners on Thursday are always a great treat. He and the staff care about the Alameda community and coordinate several outreach events each year to help those who need a helping hand.
Love the atmosphere. Can't believe I passed by all the time. I finally went in, the food and the service was great. You have to try it.
Pappo was delightful: the food was excellent, the service friendly, efficient and timely. Most appreciated that there was no loud music. It was possible to talk intimately without strain. One small suggestion: tables for two could be just a bit larger and spaced a little more from one another.
we had exceptional service and the food was fantastic especially the duck risotto and burata.
best food on the island -- on the level of chez panisse and gather -- the quiche & strawberry pie are sublime
We went for an anniversary dinner, and they greeted us with champagne and wished us happy anniversary. We also had some dietary restrictions to deal with, and our server was very patient and helpful with that. Can’t wait to go again! No wonder they’ve been around 15 years!!
brought my daughter here for Easter weekend. good service, but food was mediocre (lamb shank and pasta dish)
Delicious. Fun. Great ambience.
A beautiful spring evening, so we dinned in the patio area . Our Market Dinners not had a wonderful taste course by course, but the the texture + color presentation added to the whole experience.
Celebrating a birth in the family. Came with my wife and the new grandma. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Duck confit, gnocchi, and halibut, accompanied by a nice Sauvignon Blanc. Great service by Julie. We love Pappo and it was a great place for a special dinner!
My brother & I were having a get together with to discuss family matters with my cousin whose aged mother who has been suck for quite some time just passed away & the funeral services was just the week before. So in essence—I was trying to cheer up my cousin from all the preparations & commotion of the service plus to get him to “chill” & “recharge” his outlook. He was staying with his Mom (my Aunt Soledad) here in Alameda & taking care of her for over 2 yrs. He is from Huntington Beach, CA. The nice ambiance of the restaurant & the excellent food & good craft beer plus our nice chat did just that. We had the pork chops, the pasta & the fish entree plus the buratta appetizer & salad that we all shared. It was great that the North Coast Brewing Beer Pilsner was available as well as the crisp amber ale which paired well with our dishes.
I walked in at 5:30 for salad and dessert, and didn’t get out of there until 6:45. Ridiculous. Their Caesar salad is good, although the bread wasn’t ‘ready’ until 6:00. I had already been served the salad. C’mon. Should have called to ask whether they were still serving the bread pudding - they weren’t. So disappointed, because that’s one of the few things that’s really great on their menu. Waited 30 minutes for the apple pie, which wasn’t worth it.
We went for the Sunday Spanish Supper on 3/31. Food was amazing. The waitstaff is always so fun and courteous. There was a large birthday party that night so actually extra loud and noisy. Not Pappo's fault. It was very hard to have a normal conversation until they left. There were 2 other older couples that sat near us. We carried on a fun conversation and ended up closing the restaurant! Love their Thursday Market Dinners as well.
Everything about this restaurant was amazing, from the food, to the drinks, to the staff. Every single staff member that helped us out and checked in on us were so nice and polite, despite the busy atmosphere of the restaurant. The food was devine, and the drinks phenomenal. Would definitely go back.
Amazing staff, amazing service.
Pappos is more than a good restaurant with high quality food, wine and staff It is a community dining hall that draws the best of our neighborhood.
All wait staff are well trained and professional but I must say Fay is our favorite. She has a way of making you feel most special.
Took 20 minutes to get waiter to table after being seated. They forgot to bring the honey for the tea. But due to the extreme delay in service they comped the appetizers so that was a nice gesture in the end. Food was good, ambiance is noisy when crowded. I would recommend to visit non-peak hours / weekdays for a better experience.
Delish! I had the halibut, my friend went with soup and hurrays. Loved the cocktails and scrumptious flourless chocolate cake. Wonderful service from a pro.
Excellent ! Fun! Easy! Sympatique!
Clean! Cosy! Interesting!
