Papillon Bistro and Bar
Book your next event with us
I had a good experience at Papillon. It's very, very loud -- so if that's a problem, you'll want to stay away. But I found it was still easy to talk with my friends, and the food was very good. Simple menu, reasonably priced, relaxed and fun. Nice waiters, attentive despite the fact that the place was packed. Will go back!
Restaurant didn’t have the open table reservation in their system. Also their dining room is not open Monday nights even though open table confirmed the reservation. We sat in bar area. So loud we couldn’t have a conversation. Did appreciate that the manager did her best to somehow accommodate with few options. Comped our glass of wine. Bartender/waiter was very good.
We were there for Opera Night, which made the whole evening worthwhile.
Food and service are very good. Noise level can be deafening at 5:00pm.
Food was great, service was good & the Halloween decor was amazing, but the noise level at lunch was very high, it was difficult to have a conversation.
Serious lack of attractive women. Only good looking on was the hostess.
Went here with a work colleague yesterday and it was fantastic. I was blown away by the Halloween decorations, and would recommend this place based on those alone! I sent 4 people there today and told several others about it. The service was great- quick and efficient. I had the chicken sandwich and my friend had the steak sandwich- both were delicious! We will be back!
There was no hostess upon entering and waiting for 10+ min. Ended up eating at bar as a result, which looked fine as bar wasn’t that busy (maybe 5 people). Bartender did not check in with us for extended periods of time, did not even put in half of the order until reminded 45+ min later, and recommended the roasted chicken and potatoes which ended up being horribly dry (had specifically asked if that would be the case, to which I was told “no, it’s never dry and definitely our best dish on the menu”. Very disappointing experience all-in-all.
The ambiance is quite nice. Lots to look at. The service was ok. We had just received our appetizers and the waitress cam over with our entrees. We sent the entrees back and asked that they not be brought out until we had finished the appetizers and the table had been cleared. There was not room on the table for one more thing. This was amateuresque.
I've been there on a Saturday night and the place was jumping. This time I was there on a Sunday and the place was dead and the upstairs dining room was closed so the atmosphere was a bit lacking but I understand that. Overall I would recommend this place but not on a Sunday unless you want a more laid back experience.
Reunion and 60th birthday
Very poor service, food was not to what was oordered.
Servers were gracious and attentive.
Dependable bistro cuisine in a relaxed, friendly setting. It is particularly nice to sit upstairs with a view of the street traffic below.
We had dinner on a Thursday evening before seeing a show, and were surprised at how very loud the restaurant was! The food we had - caesar salad, mahi mahi, house rose - was all quite good and a decent value, but I'd want to plan my visits there a bit, to try and avoid the after-work crowd.
Outstanding. The food was very good and the service spot on. Everyone was satisfied and we would definitely go there again.
The tabletop was very loose, very poor as a patron, we could not move to another table. Drinks and food kept moving, its the table under the stairs, please have that fixed, ruined our night and out of town guest we felt embarrassed.
Nice place. I had seared tuna salad and others had crab cakes and tomato salad everything was good and good value for money. Hostess made sure we were comfortable.
Waited 10 minutes to see a server.
There were maybe 5 active tables at noon on a Sunday. The staff stayed congregated at the end of the bar, talking among themselves. Our server seemed confused by our order, which was from the menu. Nobody ever asked us if we wanted another drink. We felt like an afterthought. The food was delicious and I imagine it’s a fun place to be when it’s busy, but when we left and 3 of the staff members were seated at a front open window table eating lunch, that is when I decided I wouldn’t be returning.
The food is really good in the service with the two girls coming back and forth the waitresses it was very good, I've been there before it's a little noisy in the evening because it's very it's a very environment-friendly with people in finance who are allowed and drinking all the time but I had a nice table that was okay the elevator was broken however I couldn't take it to get up to the second floor to use the restroom so I had to walk up all these stairs which I didn't like because I have some gymnastic injuries and I don't like taking stairs if I can avoid them so the elevator was stuck and never came up or down and they apologized for that
Great environment for a happy hour get-together though it was loud like any other bar would be. Prices for food were reasonable and we left full and happy.
Great for lunch
The salad was creative and very large-- could almost be for two people. The décor is unique yet casual l will go again. Service was good.
Great food, quick lunch service. Nice seating. Will be back.
Although the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived for an 8:30 dinner it was very noisy thanks to a few very loud customers. And someone turned up the volume on the music. Our waitress brought my cheeseburger but was nowhere to be found afterwards. I had to get out of my seat to find someone to bring me ketchup ( then still waited a few minutes for it to be brought to my table) food and drinks were just fair. I won’t recommend Papillon and won’t return
The facility's dining room wasn't open, and we never received a call on our reservation to tell us. It felt like the restaurant wasn't even expecting us when we got there. We wound up being seated outside, since the bar was too noisy for a business dinner. Items on the menu were not available. My NY strip steak looked more like a hangar or flank cut, and it wasn't cooked properly. Our table asked for bread and never received it. I do not plan to ever return to this establishment.
Like an old friend.... nothing special but good. But i’ll Be back.
Very interesting restaurant....lots of charm! Ate at the bar...delicious salad and great glass of Chardonnay!
Really good food and great service!
One of my favorite pubs I’ve ever been to. You feel like you’re in France and the Irish bartender made me the best whiskey sour of my life. Will be back!
Main dining room upstairs, bexawwre. Tuna Niçoise salad was good but very little Tuna.
Nice place in midtown
Easy in and out
Good service -- Friendly staff
We actually walked out because our table of four sat for 20 minutes without being greeted or served.
This by far is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Let me explain; upon walking in the reservation was for three and they only had a table for two they gave us a booth where the step up was at least 24 inches ; the tightness of the table left us no legroom and the plates barely fit on the table with everything that we ordered . two of the orders were wrong and they had to be redone. The restrooms are upstairs with a long ,steep staircase. When we asked if there was a elevator they said they did but it was broken and have no idea when it will be fixed.
There aa so many better restaurants in New York I do not recommend wasting your time on this one
They take brunch reservations for large groups. We went here after a 5th Ave. Parade. Meet all expectations. Clean, good food, decent ambiance.
This place is too expensive. They serve food hastily and too quickly. Feels like they want to get you out ASAP. Menu hasn’t changed in years. Okay for lunch but have low expectations going on
Greeter and waiter were very amicable and courteous. Our orders were takenly quickly, upon being seated. The food arrived quickly, being it was lunch hour. And it arrived hot, which was very much appreciated. Overall rustic, restaurant-pub decor added to our enjoyment.
Compliments to the kitchen, waiters, waitresses and hostess who greeted us upon entering the restaurant.
We'll be back.
Went for opera night which delivered as promised. Great performers and liberatingly imformal. Food and drinks are nice but ridiculously over priced.
Awesome evening! Noisy couldn't talk to my company
