Papillon Bistro and Bar Ratings and Reviews
what a great time! since the demise of Asti this place rules the opera-lite/Broadway fun live performance evening. fun fun fun all the way with decent food and good wine.....but it's the singing that makes it. even our young daughters (rock fans) thought that it was out of this world. also, what nice staff!! highly recommended.
Met with family (party of 8) for a quick holiday brunch. They decorate really well for the holidays, have great music on, and provide the best kept brunch secret in NYC ($17 including a bloody or mimosa!) The food is exceptional and portions are large. Friendly staff, although they moved pretty slowly for the place being relatively empty at 11a on a Saturday...regardless, I'd completely recommend this place and we will be back!
Very disappointed with the food. We ordered the tomato mozzarella basil appetizer - the tomatoes were hard and not ripe, and the mozzarella was refrigerator-cold when it should have been room temperature. The tuna in a fresh tuna salad was also cold when it should have been fresh cooked and at least warm. The stuffed mushrooms were tasteless. The staff seemed overworked because of pre-holiday traffic and service was slow.
Made a reservation for six people @5:00 PM far in advance. Received a call at 3:30 to confirm and was told the dinning room was closed and we were being put up in the bar. When we arrived our reserved table had been given to someone else. We were crammed into small round table. I also noticed today that I was over charged on my bill. Been here many times. This was a poor experience.
We planned to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and Saks 5th Ave windows and wanted to find a place to stop for dinner. We looked for a spot a few blocks away as not to get trapped with 'tourist prices" in the heart of Rockefeller Center. Papillon fit the bill perfectly. The place was very charming and it was decorated really cute for Christmas. The building has a lot of character. We ordered a Caesar Salad (very nice) as an appy. He had the sauted Shrimp, I had the spaghetti carbonara. We enjoyed our meals and the pricing was very reasonable for NYC. it was a bit too loud when we were there - as there was a private party close by to where we were seated. That said that December in NYC. I would go back to try again when the area isn't overrun with tourist and holiday parties. Would recommend.
Since the service was so dismal, I tend to think that the manager had a sick day. People waited and waited to order their meal or for their food to come. Once it came, the food was okay (mediocre). The place was pretty and well-located. I felt so sorry for the two young mothers with their fussy, hungry toddlers, who waited for 50 minutes for their food to arrive. The toddlers weren't that good at waiting. The staff (only seen occasionally) acted like they had no idea what was going on . I won't be returning, unfortunately.
This is a great restaurant to visit during the holiday season - the decorations are the best! Staff are friendly (if not a little hurried during a busy session) and the food is good. I took a friend here for dinner before attending Radio City - perfect location. We ordered the mussels (excellent), the beet salad (also pretty good) and the steak tartar (just ok, a little flavourless) to share.
Took a little while to get the check, and they brought us the wrong one at first, but certainly wasn't a significant issue. Would recommend as a solid choice in midtown.
Tremendously disappointing. I have seen this place hoping all work-week long and always wanting to try it when it was less busy, so went in for Sunday brunch. Food was served cold and waitress did not seem to be able to keep up with 5 tables of 2 - 3 apiece. A little business advice: Don't let young adults run your business without a little senior over-sight. Exorbitant price for wine-by-the-glass. Would not recommend going in for anything other than a beer after work - good selection there.
THERE WEB SITE IS VERY MISLEADING, THE PICTURE SHOWS A BEAUTY FULL FRONT PATIO WITH BUSHES AND NICE TABLES BUT ITS THE ITALIAN RESTAURANT NEXT DOOR, THEY MAKE IT LOOK LIKE ITS THEM BUT ITS NOT, THE RESTAURANT IS A DUMP, I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE !!!!!
From the outside everything looks attractive. Inside the decor is nice, but there is a musty smell and everything looks dirty and feels sticky. We were seated in a dark corner with only 2 other people in this very large restaurant. That should of been a hint to leave, but there are not many other places near where we were staying to eat. Food was ok, but I would likely not go back unless I could get a sidewalk table.
