Meals were very good. Our group ordered different menu items, and there were no complaints. The entrees, including salad entrees, were fresh, seasoned nicely, the sushi was excellent, the environment allowed for conversation around the table. Music was in the background and did not override conversations. Our wait staff were very knowledgeable, accommodating, and pleasant. Variety of menu choices provided something for just about anyone's taste. Hot/Spicy additions are available if you want it. Overall, and pleasant, enjoyable and "full-filling" culinary experience.
Dumplings were good, moist and tasty with great sauce. Combo roll was disappointing; very little"meat" with too much rice and chewy seaweed wrap. Duck was ok but wouldn't order it again
Service was outstanding.
a restaurant with charm and great food not to mention excellent service
The food was great once it came out. Service was not that great it was only 2 waitress to take care of the entire restaurant. I made reservations for 20 people. Only half of the group order was taken and the other half didn't get theirs taken until someone got the waitress attention. We had to keep asking for refills. The service was not good at all.
Best sushi in Beaufort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Papaya is a very nice restaurant with a good selection of sushi and Thai specialties. The service was a bit slow but the atmosphere is nice, it's quiet and the food is quite good and the portions very large.
Six for dinner pre theater. Service was efficient. Lots of options on menu. Food was good. Tab was reasonable. Nice place. Give it a go. We had a nice experience.
We drove over from Bluffton because we love Thai food. This was wonderful. The presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious. It is now my husband's favorite Thai restaurant. From the appetizers to the main course, we enjoyed every bite.
It's an "ok" place. My biggest issue each time we've dined here is the service. There are simply not enough servers for this restaurant. No one refills water glasses. No one ever asks if customers want more cocktails or wine. If your table isn't being served, you are completely ignored. The servers are friendly when they are serving your table but otherwise they are just too busy which is a shame because the food is pretty good.
We have been doing sushi takeout for several months and have always been pleased. This was our first dining room experience and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend this restaurant for those folks who like a Thai experience and enjoy sushi.
We had soft shell crabs that were excellently prepared over fresh lightly cooked veggies, rice with a mild yellow curry. Our waitress was great. Explained the specials, how they were prepared and the hot/mild ratio. A nice wine list. We went with friends and were happy to be able to converse. Noise level = low.
We ordered a variety of foods. The tom ka soup, sushi, green curry and salmon salad were excellent. The taste of the steamed dumplings was also excellent, but the dough was fluffy and I prefer chewier wrappers. The (default) spices were just right for our tastes. Altogether, a very pleasant experience.
After a lengthy wait due to not receiving the reservation from open table the server team managed to treat us with royalty to the most outstanding Thai cuisine that I have ever experienced. Compliments to the chef and staff!
We have visited Papaya many times and they never fail to satisfy us with great food, great service and an enjoyable experience.
The food was exceptional. The service was good. The atmosphere was so relaxing and romantic. My drink couldve had a little more alcohol cause it was more on the fruity side like a regular fruit drink.
My daughter has been going to Papaya for quite some time and loves it. We were in Beaufort to visit her and she strongly suggested we try it and because she is a Marine Corp Drill Instructor we did not argue. We were very happy with the choice. She, her mom and I have enjoyed sushi forever. Papaya has some excellent choices for Sushi and excellent soups also. I saw lamb chops on the menu and could not resist. They were awesome. The service was excellent.
We had a yen for soft shell crabs and no one does them better than Papaya. The seasonings were just right and the crabs were meaty and cooked to perfection!
We made reservations via Open Table for our party of 4 for a Valentines Day dinner, then tried to increase to 6, but couldn't use Open Table to do so. Called the restaurant and was advised they had "taken down" their Open Table system, so it was no longer available. They seemed to be very much understaffed for Valentines Day dinner. Service was very slow. Our guests struggled a bit to understand the menu and find something to their liking. When the food finally came out, most of our guests were OK on their choice. Not overwhelmed by the quality, but OK.
The service is always friendly and appropriate and the value is amazing...lots of food for the money! But, the best part is the quality of the food. Sushi and shashimi is excellent. The appetizers are amazing. Just all good. Happy place to be!
Not too many Thai and Suchi bars in this town. This one is a bit off the beaten path, but worth the drive or longer walk from the restaurant row of down town. For a broad selection of both Thai, Japanese and Chinese menu items, you can have what fits your desire. We did a business meeting here, requested a quite and private setting in which to discuss business matter away from other's ears and without disturbance and the request was accommodated. Our waiter was super attentive and non-intrusive. We will be back another time for "pleasure" dining. Sushi rolls are very affordable by comparison to other sushi restaurants that charge more for less tasty treats. Appetizer menu items are large enough to share with a table of 4.
They did not know we were there, they reported that we were no shows. I ordered Nigiri Sushi, my wife a Sushi roll, grand children fried shrimp and Pho soup. The Nigiri rice was like paste, the rolls we're cover with sauce that was not Japanese, fried shrimp were premade and refried and the Pho soup was served without a spoon. Terrible service terrible food I would never go back.
Our only disappointment in dining at Papaya is the fact that there are so few others enjoying their food along with us. We don't want them to close and in particular because their food is just great! We had soft shell crabs and I have never had any better prepared. We have enjoyed Papaya many times now and always found the food outstanding and the service just right!
The sizzling duck with red curry sauce is not to be missed. Excellent sushi choices also.
This was me and my husband first time eating there. It was our date night. Overall the food, location and the quietness of the restaurant was on point. The only issue I had was the server was not up to my par. The server forgot to bring out my salad that I ordered. We had ordered our food before other couples had sat down, and they received their food before we did. Not acceptable. The server stated that everyone was ordering tempura that night and the cook wanted to do them all at the same time. NOT ACCEPTABLE. We waited over 20 minutes to receive to orders or sushi, while other tables around us who were seated later, were already eating. I was just dissatisfied with the service of the server. Overall the food and ambiance was great.
Our first visit, but it will definitely not be out last. The staff made you feel very welcome when you walked in the door and the service followed right along those lines. The food was simply outstanding. Peppercorn crusted seared tuna (truly sashimi grade) and a spicy sea bass, both served on steamed organic vegetables, were absolutely great. The "strength" of the "spicy" was up to you (I like it hot) and it was right on the money. We're looking forward to the next visit.
Very good Thai food - not too hot unless you ask for Thai Hot and then it's perfect (for us). Service was outstanding and the physical appearance is lovely. We'll be back!
Sizzling duck dish was really excellent. Had great 50% specials on sushi rolls and martinis on the evening we went.
Perhaps because it isn't in the historic area of Beaufort, this really fine restaurant doesn't seem to get the crowds it deserves. Food is excellent and portions are generous. Service is timely and friendly. For the money, it is as good as you could want!
In spite of being understaffed the night we ate there, the food was really outstanding. Our waitress did her best to handle all the tables but she was alone and so things bogged down a bit at the start. The food more than made up for it! Soft shell crabs, Thai style, were just fabulous! The squid salad will be a regular choice when I return.
Seated on arrival, good service and interesting menu. Had scallops that were pefectly prepared. Enjoyed the evening with friends and would go back .
