Papadam Flavors of India Ratings and Reviews
Everything we ordered was very good! There were no many diners while we were there so cannot comment on how the service would be if it were busy. The manager/owner waited the table, we were not rushed. He was very courteous and helpful. Definitely recommend to those that want to have good Indian cuisine without the fanfare and crowds.
This place is a gem! First time at Papadam....it was delicious. The waiter made some recommendations on appetizers, steering us away from the usual samosa choice and I am glad we listened. The Hyderabadi eggplant dish I had was amazing. Again not a standard dish and I'm glad I ventured into unknown territory. The staff was very helpful and on top of everything. If you like Indian food or want to try it for the first time...give Papadam a look.
Papadam is the best Indian cuisine my daughters and I have had the opportunity to eat. We had the chance to go in for dinner this evening and not only were the owners and staff warm and welcoming, they gave excellent food suggestions. In fact, we let one of the owners pick our complete meal for us and ALL selections were amazing! A great atmosphere with the combination of wonderful food and genuinely fantastic people you can not go wrong.
Nothing but great things to say about Papadam and I suggest everyone take the opportunity to let them tailor your dinner for the night - you won't be disappointed.
While Papadam's dishes are, without question, delectable, the portion size is often somewhat stingy, especially when juxtaposed to the amount of delicious sauce served with most items. This can detract from the value, but not the quality of the service or the manner in which your taste buds are energized. The fresh breads are very special and tasting many types is worthwhile. This is an enjoyable evening. A particularly nice aspect of this small eatery is if you have not eaten enough, the kitchen fulfills your additional orders expeditiously. Eat, be happy!
Our usual restaurant closed and we were trying to find another. Papadum has delicious authentic Indian food and we will definitely be back often! The home made mango mousse was delicious. they deliver too! The owners were there and were taking orders and serving customers. Very welcoming people.
I LOVE this restaurant!!! It is in my neighborhood and had walked by it several times thinking one day I would go. Well when friend suggested dinner I made this the opportunity to go and try this restaurant. And they did not disappoint. We ordered a bottle of Chilean wine which was perfect for the meal. When we ordered appetizers, the owner came over and asked if she could suggest some. She suggested Hari Bari Tikki and Lasuni Gobi, both not traditional dishes. They were out of this world and both vegetarian. We both then ordered dinner; I ordered Hyderabadi Baghare Baigan (I am a vegan) and my friend ordered Griller Tilapia in Tandoori Oven. My friend said the Tilapia was out of this world, it was light, seasoned just enough, and surprisingly is seemed like it was fried because it has a crispness to it, but it was in fact grilled and broiled, a chef specialty. The service was friendly, and attentive and the restaurant was cozy, not noisy at all. I would suggest it highly to anyone who like Indian food.
Great food, subtle flavors and gracious service led by the kindness of Ajay and his staff leaving you wanting to come back for more. There just are not that many really, really good local Indian restaurants on the UES, but, finally, there is Papadam. I'll be back!!
We dined at Papadam on Christmas Eve. As someone who has lived in India for many years, I can say that this is the best Indian food I've experienced in NYC. Everything was carefully prepared with the freshest ingredients and spices, a true delight for the palate. And the menu has a wonderful diversity of dishes, from Goan fish curry to the aromatic dishes of northern Kashmir. The owners could not have been more charming and friendly, and took a personal interest in all of their guests. We felt as if we had been transported to a dinner among close friends in New Delhi, which certainly lit up our holiday! Will definitely return.
Have been here multiple times, each time food is wonderful and the service is even better. This is a husband-wife run restaurant, and they truly care about their guests. The atmosphere feels higher-end (white table clothes, dark mood lighting), but still comfortable. The wine list is not notable. But, the food selection is excellent, delicious, and nicely presented. There could be a few more pieces in some of the chicken dishes like the tikka masala and saag, but it's so yummy. Don't hesitate to go here!
I have a few favorite Indian restaurants in the NY Metro area, but had not been out for Indian on the Upper East until this week. So after a bit of exploring on OpenTable and Yelp, I made reservations and Papadam, and was very happy with the results.
It was just dinner for two, and we were both fasting from meat, so I can only comment on a few vegetarian appetizers and entrees. All were quite good. Spicy (as requested) but not too much, tasty, and generous servings.
As far as the ambience, the restaurant is small and family run. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived until we left, and I really felt like we were eating at somebody's home.
I look forward to visiting again.
Food, service excellent. Restaurant would not honor our open table $20 check for dinner. They said they have no way of verifying it and they have been on the phone with you and many times you have been rude to them. I was left with a very sour taste upon leaving not knowing who to be annoyed with: open table or Pappadam.
My boyfriend and I have been here twice and each time the food was delicious (truly a cut above just about every other Indian I've had in the neighborhood) and the owners gave us very personalized attention that really turned a great meal into a special experience. This is our new go-to in the neighborhood.
Having not dined in an Indian restaurant in New York, I have no local frame of reference. I have dined in many Indian restaurants in the US and UK. The attentiveness of the owner and his wife was exemplary. The service was good. The food was great and more creative than most. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to New Yorkers.
We picked Papadam Flavors of India to celebrate my wife's birthday and had the most amazing meal. Papdam is every bit as good as our favorite NYC Indian standbys (Tamarind and Dawat) and yet it is right here on the Upper East Side. The owner and his wife could not have been any nicer or more caring to our party of 6. We tried several of our favorite dishes while also branching out a bit based on dishes the owner recommended. Everything we ate was delicious. Can't wait to return!
We've been looking for good Indian food and glad we followed the Open Table reviewers. The food was so fresh and flavorful, the service attentive. The restaurant is small and not much atmosphere but with food this good we didn't care. Also easy on the pocket book.
Loved the food. It was our first time and were super pleased with the food and atmosphere. Prices are pretty reasonable too if you compare it with other choices for Indian in the area. Food is delicious! The hosts were very helpful and they also made suggestions on what to order and what was their favorites. Def. a pleasant experience and would be going there again. It's too bad that upper East side is a little off the beaten path for me so I don't make it much there but it's def. worth the visit.
We were going to be in the neighborhood and were craving Indian food, so we ended up at Papadam. I made a reservation a couple hours before since I wasn't sure how busy it would be later on (it was Saturday night), but when we got there at 7 the place was empty. Normally I take this as a sign of a bad restaurant, but we were there so we stayed, and I sure am glad we did! We were feeling particularly indecisive so one of the staff members (who I presumed was the manager) picked some things out for us. They were all incredible! We got lots of attention from the wait staff, but not so much that it was annoying. We were so charmed by the staff and the food was delightful. Will certainly go here next time I'm in Manhattan!
Hello, the service was really good, the food was also very good and we ask for some not too spicy and for other spicy and everything was very respected. the only wired thing was we were the only client for the evening and we felt sorry for the restaurant because the food and service are good.
I can't say enough good things about this place! The owners are absolutely committed to their diner's experience, not to mention a pleasure to talk with.
The food is delicious - try the cauliflower! I haven't tried anything on the menu that I didn't absolutely love.
I've been here with friends and family, and it works for any size group. It's a small restaurant, but it makes for a personalized experience and quiet dining.
