Had dinner here on a whim our first nite in Carlsbad & was so glad we did. Food & service was excellent. Foie Gras with rhubarb special was so good we went back another night just for this dish.

Paon does NOT disappoint. They offer a widely varied menu and specials. EVERYTHING is served beautifully and is delicious.

The owners and staff are all delightful and interested in pleasing their patrons!

What a find! PAON is so beautiful. Gorgeous patio. Great wines and cocktails. Delicious French cuisine. Well priced. We had a perfect wedding anniversary dinner here.

Service and most food was exceptional. Appetizers and my husbands food was great. But My dinner (halibut special) was just bland and dry. A real let down given everything else

Excellent French-styled bistro in the heart of Carlsbad Village. If you live in the area, you don't have to travel to San Diego to get an extraordinary meal.

What a gem in Carlsbad!! We sat on the outside patio and it was just lovely with the lights and the heaters to keep you warm. The service was amazing...our waiter’s name was Steve! There’s a great wine selection and wine of the month. The food was absolutely delicious...I keep thinking about it! They had the best dessert I’ve ever tried at a restaurant which was their homemade mint ice cream! Never tasted anything like it. I would love to go back soon!

Service was very good. Our server was great at picking wines for us. Unfortunately our meals were just ok. Two of us had short ribs that were very fatty and the other guest had the fish special and her vegetables were not cooked. For the price point I would have expected a bitter meal quality.

It was our anniversary. We wanted a very nice restaurant in which to celebrate. PAON was outstanding. The best thing is that is was not very busy on this particular evening and we has a very quiet dinner.

One of our very favorites since moving to Carlsbad. It is not inexpensive, but every penny spent is well worth it, because of the creative cuisine! Our favorites are the Chilean sea bass and the beef dishes. Appetizers are great and salads too! If we have guests visiting, this is where we take them.

Beautiful place, with outstanding service. Delicious food. The escargot melted in my mouth. Full of flavor. Had the lamb, it was very good medium rare and melted in my mouth side of wild mushrooms and spinach very flavorful and a side of mashed potatoes. Very nicely plated. I would highly recommend!

Good wine, food and service. Off season and not very busy. It was our anniversary and we got nothing special except a candle in the dessert we ordered.

We were given a nice table for four to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. Service was great and the food was exceptional.

We have dined here many times. The food is always very good - not great but always very good. Ample portions make up for the higher prices. The wine list is voluminous but accessible and fairly priced - though I wish it had a better California selection. We had the onion soup and it is sort of a take on French Onion soup but not as richly flavored/textured. I had the salmon on lentils and it was slightly overdone and under-seasoned. My wife had the tuna and it was done perfectly but also under-seasoned. The vibe and clientele are a more older crowd - this isn't a hipster place. So the noise level is manageable for table side conversation. Outside on their front terrace is a wonderful place to eat and even quieter. All in all, it is worth a try, especially since north San Diego county doesn't offer that many good upscale, quiet restaurants. It can be pricey. The tab for 4 people appetizer, dinner entree and wine was $450 and we ordered less expensive wine

This was our first time at Paon and it is now our new favorite restaurant. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and was art on a plate. Can't wait to visit again soon.

Our experience was five-star. I ordered pheasant and my wife ordered venison. We split a pear, Gorgonzola and baby greens salad, one salad is plenty for two. The foi gras superb, and brioche bread pudding with vanilla ice cream topped it all off.
$174 our the door isn’t bad for this high quality.
The service was timely and attentive. There was a loud table nearby, so the noise level was the only drawback...I don’t really blame the restaurant, the people at that table would’ve been loud during a tornado!
All in all, fantastic & we’ll be back.

Food was quite good and the setting was nice. We enjoyed our experience for the most part even though we thought the service was a bit odd. The maitre d’ pretty much served our entire dinner and couldn’t have been less engaging. Despite that, we had a very enjoyable meal.

I had put in a request for a quiet table for my wife's birthday. We were initially seated at the back near the hallway to the bathroom and entrance to the kitchen. I asked to be moved which we were. We then proceeded to order. The waiter was very good with his wine pairing recommendations. However, the salad and soup that we ordered prior to our entrees never showed up. And this was on a quiet Monday. Our server was very apologetic and comped us some wine, but it was really hard to believe an entire course was forgotten. My wife had the steak special which was excellent. I had the duck prepared 2 ways. The breast was prepared perfectly, the duck leg was dry and the skin was overly crispy. Might have been an off night, but at this point, we won't be going back.

The Seabass entree was amazing. The butternut squash soup was one of the best we have ever tasted! We will be back to Paon.
