The hostess and server were excellent. They accommodated my relative who used a walker. They brought her in side entrance which made it much easier for her to be seated. The food was very tasty, and very quick to be served during the Sunday brunch. Really nice thing was if you’re seated in order before noon, the price is a nice $12 per meal. Everyone enjoyed the food.
Great place if you want to have a drink and meet friends but the food is terrible! My friend sent back her veal meal twice because it was burnt and given the prices, one expects better. Service was great but if you are looking for a great Italian place in Georgetown, go somewhere else.
I had been to Paolo's years ago and remembered loving the crispy eggplant. I had it again this time. It is so delicious! I also had Branzino with cauliflower, which was also amazing. This is a great location in Georgetown, a good value, and they have a very friendly staff. We had a wonderful server from Ethiopia. She was always smiling. I will be back soon!
This place was ok. The food was good but not outstanding. The biggest complaint was the service was mediocre. Had to ask several times for things (drinks, utensils) we ordered and then waited for our food and about the time the food should have come they came to tell us they were out of one of the main dishes we had ordered. Not great.
I live in the neighborhood and was excited to finially eat at Paolo’s after walking by all the time. My family was in town so I made reservations here for the special occasion. The food was great, but I could not believe the service. The restaurant was freezing and we were all dressed for the warm weather outside, we were shivering by the end of dinner. Our waiter was very forgetful. When one of the beers was out of stock he didn’t even offer an alternative. They also never cleared our plates when everyone was finished eating, leaving the table very full and crowded until we left. Worst of all, an acrylic nail from the hostess flew across the room and hit one of my guests in the head and fell into his lap. We were unimpressed and I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to our special dinner there.
Having travel to Georgetown many times over the past couple years to see our daughter at University, we had tried several times to make reservations at Paolo's, but the place was always fully booked, but finally this past weekend we were successful in getting a table. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. Although the outdoor seating was very nice, especially on a beautiful October evening, our waiter was either overworked or simply brand new (we felt very bad for him as he dropped the pizza on the floor for the table adjacent to us). For standard Italian dishes like chicken pharm and chicken marsala, the preparation was not that good, and my wife had to send back the chilled seafood salad as it simply tasted as it was going bad. They were having a catered event on one half of the restaurant that evening , so potentially that was something they were simply not capable of while handling there regular restaurant operation. I think the great location and atmosphere are major pluses, but the food is a little lacking.
I have to say that I am usually a very forgiving diner and little things don't effect me but this dining experience was really bad. We made a reservation for a regular table but was given a hightop at the front of the restaurant that was far from romantic. The server took a little longer than expected to greet us but was energetic and apologetic. We ordered the calamari and drinks. The calamari was brought by the original server (who was also the bartender) but that was the last time we saw him. After awhile another server came and took our order for the mussels and carbonara. The food came but the mussels tasted old and bland and the pasta wasn't hot and the bacon was uncooked and not crispy. No one ever asked if the food was good or asked how we were doing. I do have to say this: the person who started the practice of the bartender also handling the hightop tables is far from a genius. This bar was ultra busy due to parents weekend at Georgetown and the bar area was so busy. Overall, this was a horrible dining experience. The servers were nice when we actually talked to them but the food was not good and the service even worse. My date night with my wife was pretty much ruined and I think the management at this place really needs to rethink their service and how they run their business.
I went for Sunday brunch. The food was ok; the poached eggs were a little underdone and the home fries were really just small wedge french fries with no seasoning. They didn't open until 10:00, which gave lots of time to wait and watch the place across the street already bustling with business. Best thing about the sidewalk seating was people-watching on the busy intersection.
Service was very slow, and we had a number of issues. One of us ordered a cocktail from the menu, but received a glass of wine by mistake. We asked to switch the wine to the cocktail, which the server was perfectly fine with. Then the server came back to say they were out of the cocktail we ordered, so we switched to another. When we switched to the other cocktail, a different server came over to clarify what we wanted. Finally, 25 minutes after arriving, the right cocktail arrived.
Then when the bill came, we were charged for the glass of wine that was erroneously delivered, and charged for the cocktail that the restaurant had run out of. In all, it took 2 & 1/2 hours to get our food and drinks and complete the meal. We weren't in a rush, but still, the service was surprisingly bad.
Nice reliable place. Appreciate consistently good food from old standby in popular neighborhood. Was a bit loud, but we kinda expected that.
Server was friendly and upbeat. We had to ask for seating we wanted & were moved, which wasn't a problem, but noticed that the other host was asking everyone where they wanted to sit before seating them.
Was impressed w how quickly the food came out. That was great, and perhaps a function of the fact that they weren't too crowded when we were there.
The service was incredibly slow - they didn't bring our table more than 1 menu until asked, and even then didn't bring enough for our party. While we did have a large party, the restaurant was fairly empty and it still took over 40 minutes for our entrees to be delivered. One person in our party ordered their meal without nuts due to an allergy, but it came with them. In total we were there three hours from start to finish, which is way too long.
Our waiter must have been very new. There was plenty of seating available and i asked to be sat away from anyone else. But he sat us right next to the only other large group in the place. He spilled the cups of coffee on the floor as he walked to the table and kept re-asking some of the same questions, even after we answered. When he picked up some of the dirty dishes at the end, he dropped silverware on the floor and fumbled with the plates and cups.
The food was either burnt of not quite warm. It was not inexpensive and i expected much better. There were five people in our group and we all agreed that we were disappointed. Would not recommend.
The food was delicious. The service was not. Our waiter was nice, but unfortunately, once he started realizing that things were going wrong (drinks took forever, bar didn't know how to make a certain drink, and then there were no wine glasses for the wine that was average at best), he disappeared and sent the manager in his place. The manager didn't do anything to make it right (complimentary dessert, comp the appetizers, etc). Again, food was good, but service was lacking.
We went to Paolo's for a casual family lunch before Georgetown University's graduation. The service was beyond poor. We were a party of five. Two meals were served, then nothing. We wait. Then a waiter comes to apologize because they served another table our remaining dishes. We wait. The waiter brings two more meals, we wait, then finally the last meal is served. What a nightmare. We order coffee...it doesn't come. Finally we gave up and just asked for the check. The check doesn't come. We have to hunt the waiter down. Given how bad the experience was , we thought they would comp us of something...but no. Paid and left. Paolo's you really need to get your act together.
