Paola's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We had an excellent dinner at Paola's. The pasta entrees were superb (highly recommend the pappardelle with pork ragu and rigatoni with spicy sausage and porcini mushrooms) as were the brussels sprout salad and crispy artichokes to start. If you have room, share the hazelnut profiteroles! The space is cozy (crowded and noisy) but still able to have a conversation and enjoy nonetheless. The service was friendly and attentive too. We will definitely return soon!
The food was both creative and delicious and the restaurant was physically attractive and most comfortable . Unfortunately, the service we experienced from the head waiter to the busboys was inattentive and, at times, bordering on rudeness. I will go back to be certain we were not there at a difficult time -it was New Year's Day, and the food was superb..
Paola's earns its stripes as an Upper East Side standby again and again. The food is always of high quality - more traditional than cutting-edge, but from first-rate ingredients and deeply flavorful. Splendid wines, alert and caring service ... the place exudes warmth, friendship, and deep deliciousness.
Always reliable and good food. Always busy and somewhat loud, but one of the better Italian restaurants in the city. One noteworthy point is that they offer wild fresh Branzino . Almost every other restaurant now only offers farm raised Branzino--- which is considerably inferior, less tasty and less healthy (full of antibiotics, PCB's and fed things you do not want to know). And, of course much, much cheaper for the restaurant--- it really is not right nor fair especially since these restaurants charge so much for this cheaper version of this fish.
Paola's charges a fair price especially since it is vastly superior (and more expensive) and they deserve credit for this.
Our party of seven was given a table in a corner as requested so we could talk. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Food was wonderful. Entrees arrived hot for each of us! We had a wonderful evening together, celebrating over 40 years of friendship. Thank you.
First time having dinner here. Stayed close by and tried it as our usual restaurant was not open.
Delicious choices. Wonderful desserts. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Popular and with good reason. Close to our hotel which was lovely in cold weather. Casual chic dress, popular with people of varied ages. Will go again. Soon, we hope.
Paola runs a great restaurant. Wonderful menu with lots of new specials.
Big wine list and nice bar!
Good staff - and lots of them!
Seriously - a "real" restaurant. Mature and sophisticated - delicious food well prepared and beautifully served.
Getting "pricey" -but well worth it.
Honestly not so great as I expected... good for the neighborhood but not a destination place at all. Nothing was done for my girlfriend birthday and I was a little disappointed... talking about the food, nice chicken, a bit dry. Agnolotti very tasty but the can black truffle on top I’m still digesting it... calamari just fine.
Good if you live around it, but doesn’t worth the trip if you live more then 15 block away...
Great expectation, bigger disappointment
Though posing as a neighborhood restaurant, this is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The food is terrific throughout the menu, the service is prompt and friendly. There are better known Italian restaurants downtown, and there are more expensive Italian restaurants uptown — but there are not any better Italian restaurants elsewhere in the city.
