Panolivo Ratings and Reviews
It was okay. The salmon was cooked perfectly. French onion soup was barely that, not placed in the oven, cheese on top was still shredded when it was served to me, not even melted, let alone crisp on top. Crab cakes we're certainly frozen. But the pita and hummus was tasty. I probably won't be back, as there's so much great food in this town.
After reading all of the good reviews, we were really looking forward to dining at Panolivo. We made reservations and arrived early on a Friday evening. There were several tables seated and the restaurant was not crowded.
We started with appetizers. The crab cake puffs were crab cakes on a puff pastry with an aioli on the side. The puff pastry did not add anything to the crab cakes. All three of us found them somewhat bland and blah. My wife had the tomato fennel soup and I had the french onion. Our friend ordered the baked brie.
The tomato soup was more like a gruel - you could eat it with a fork. It might have been OK over pasta or in lasagna, but as a soup it was inedible. The french onion soup was average (I order it a lot at restaurants). It didn't really have much flavor. Our friend like the baked brie.
When my wife mentioned that the soup was much too thick to our waitress, she did offer to take it off the bill.
Our waitress was polite, but disconnected and distant. She may have checked with us once during the meal. We chatted for a while after finishing, but she never checked back to see if we wanted coffee or anything else.
As we left, the restaurant was still largely empty - it definitely does not draw a crowd on a Friday night which might be a sign that it is not popular among the locals. With so many other dining options in Paso Robles, I don't think we will be back.
When we walked in for our dinner reservation at 7PM, we were the only ones in the restaurant. It was all down hill from there. The atmosphere is more like a lunch time coffee shop as food was OK but not great and service was almost non-existent. They could not even remove a cork from a wine bottle in less than 3 pieces.....
We love to eat at Panolivo whenever we are in Paso, which is quite often. One of us has Celiac and there is a gluten free menu. The wine list was expanded and the prices are very reasonable. There is a great cross section of food choices from seafood and steaks to pasta and burgers. This week we enjoyed dinner. In past trips we have also enjoyed breakfast at Panolivo. The service is good and the ambiance in casual and comfortable.
We wanted to find a nice place to eat before heading to a concert at Vina Robles. This place was perfect! Great food with a lot of variety, fantastic service and just a nice environment. They also had a nice selection of wines. Would definitely come here again.
The food was fine, nothing super special. We both got the grilled veggie pita. It was just a bit disturbing watching a couple with a small dog, who were allowing their dog to walk and sit on the table (on the patio). Its privates were rubbing all over it! Gross. No one told them anything. I'm fine with dogs on the patio, but not on the table. Call me crazy. Other than that, it was fine.
Each of the four of us absolutely enjoyed our choices. Two ordered the Scottish salmon and raved. Another loved his boeuf bourguignon. I chose the butternut squash ravioli, and it was good, too. I would go back and order the salmon and bourguignon myself because of my friends' reviews.
Liked that there was outdoor seating. Staff was very nice. Loved that they had a vegan menu and that it included dessert! Food was very good. My daughter and I ordered the veg burger to share along with soup and sweet potato fries. We thought we had possibly ordered too much but were grateful that we had because the burger, although both beautiful and delicious, was quite small. Overall, a great experience and will definitely return when we're in Paso. Thank you so much for plant based options!!
We had a very nice dinner here. I loved the multigrain mushroom risotto and my husband enjoyed his seafood puffed pastry. The owner recommended a nice bottle of French wine that paired perfectly with both our meals. We'll visit again next time we're in town.
Decent local diner with good food but a little pricey for the decor. Our waitress convinced us to go with the special inclusive offer because our selected items would be included, but when we got our check that was not the case. She apologized for misinforming us but we were still charged up charges and left feeling quite displeased with the whole experience. We would not return.
The service was VERY SLOW on a Sunday afternoon with a full wait staff milling about folding napkins, wrapping silverware and standing around talking. The restaurant was not crowded so there was no excuse for the waitress to take 15 minutes to come back to our table after we were seated to take our order.
Once the order was taken the dining experience was very pleasant. The food was great and the portion sizes were reasonably priced for the quantity and quality of food.
We would definitely go back!😊👍
The food was pretty good; the wine was well priced; the servers were very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is very casual and relaxed; a table with 3 small kids was eating and the kids were having a good time & running around. Never became irritating or loud, so no problem for us, and the restaurant didn't seem to mind either. I liked that feel, but be aware that's the sort of family place this is. If I lived nearby I'd probably eat here often. But it's not a fancy night out or a date-night sort of place.
This is one of our favorite restaurants for a delicious meal any time of day. being on the north side of 13th means you dont have to fight parking around city park. we frequently go here for sunday breakfast, as well as mid week dinners. if you like to bring your pooch everywhere you go this is your place beacause they have dog friendly sidewalk seating!
If you are looking for a casual place to enjoy very good homey food, with no pretension and not fancy this may be it. We enjoyed a quiet dinner here after a day of wine tasting. The soup tasted homemade and was delicious. The menu had a good choice of appetizers and we just wanted a simple sandwich & salad, which were easily found on Panolivo's menu.
The food was great and the wine selection and the prices are really great. And that's really what counts in my book. However, there is something to a little bit better ambiance. The deli section is interesting and unique so that's not the problem. But they could have nicer tables and chairs and dim the lights a bit and my wife would have felt she just had a REALLY nice and romantic dinner.
My husband and I rarely do the commercialized Valentine's Day celebration, but this year, we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. Panolivo was the perfect restaurant. Rather than offering a prix fixe only menu, they featured a la carte items as well: soups and salads, lighter bites and entrees, and of course, dessert. Their standard beverage list was on hand, with a good variety of local and international of wine and beer.
To start, I had a glass of their French sparkling wine with the Delicious Salad: greens with dried cherries, roasted almonds, goat cheese, oranges, and a Rasperry Champagne vinaigrette. It was, indeed, delicious. My husband had Cleopatra's Favorite, a Caesar with house made croutons.
For entrees, I ordered the Vegan Lover N'Crab Cakes, and they were yummy! They were also adorable, served on hollowed out mini brioche with slaw and a side of red bell pepper vegan mayo. (They sounded so good, I ordered an extra one!) My husband went for the Vegan Lover Mushroom Bourguignon in a Cabernet wine sauce with a side of linguini. (He added parmesan cheese and made it vegetarian, much to the hard-to-disguise dismay of the owner, Didier.)
I had a glass of Hearst Ranch GSM, which was perfect, as I love red blends. My husband had the Daou Cabernet Sauvignon and let me share some. It was worth the price. We saved a few sips to partner with our dessert choice, the Be Mine heart-shaped chocolate cake (which was more like a huge truffle, with its rich, thick dark chocolate ganache) served with a raspberry coulis.
Service was excellent: Jeannie was gracious, had good timing, and spent time chatting with us about wine, travel, and retirement.
Panolivo is my favorite restaurant in Paso Robles because of their wine list, the outstanding baked goods, the vast array of food including vegetarian and vegan offerings, and the casual bistro-like atmosphere. Didier and Beatrice have created a neighborhood gem, and I will continue to visit and recommend Panolivo.
First time here, and won't be the last. The girls were super friendly and helpful. Everything we ordered was great, including the mimosas. Lots of options for salads which was a huge plus and even had leftovers to take home with us! Great place with a local, laid back feel.
