Panico's Ratings and Reviews
the restaurant provides the best of the original high quality Italian dining experiences. The menu offered many appetizer, salad, and entree items along with specials for the day. The salads, a spinach and red beet and a pear salad, were very fresh and flavorful. We each had the salmon risotto that was done to our specifications. On top of the quality of the food and drinks, the waiter was very helpful and friendly as we extended our dining experience with a late Xmas gift exchange.
My husband and I have dined at Panico's for many years. This is the first time that the food was a disappointment. The arugula salad was wilted and the arugula itself was days past its prime, and it did not taste fresh. My shrimp parm was decent, but not outstanding. I must say that the service was excellent and the staff was extremely accommodating. I might add that the bathroom was very dirty and unsanitary, something which must be addressed. It was Christmas Eve and it should have been more special and up to par. Very disappointed.
I've been to Panicos before and enjoyed it this time I ordered grouper and it was served covered in olive oil. I thought it was too much. I sent it back and it came back on a fresh plate but no oil. the fish was mediocre tasting. I expected better. the fish was $30 and I was disappointed.
We were very uncomfortable. The restaurant should never have accepted reservations if the restaurants main dining room had been previously reserved for a company's xmas party. We had the option to sit in a tiny back room, that smelled of gas and felt like a closet. We opted for the main dining room and were literally part of their awards ceremony. It's understandable if we were walk ins but to accept our reservations... was very greedy on the restaurant's part (Yes, we could have left but we had purchased a local flavor deal prior to our arrival).
I love this place. For some reason, it doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. My husband and I always enjoy the beauty, peaceful setting , the attention from the wait staff and the delicious food. I highly recommend it. Heads up--at times they have big parties and this will change the atmosphere so if you're looking for a romantic lovely stop, ask about that.
Love the atmosphere here..warm and welcoming as is the staff. We are always made to feel important! We shared clams to start, prepared with white wine and garlic as requested. Always a good thing when you can have it your way! We both chose the chicken balsamic for dinner. Chicken pieces were pounded in a lovely balsamic sauce. It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. We washed it down with a reasonably priced bottle of Sauvignon blanc.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and offered a choice of seating in the restaurant. We received personalized service from both the maître d' and two waiters. Our meal was served with care and it was delicious. The restaurant's atmosphere was lovely. It was quiet which is such a treat in today's climate of noisy restaurants. Music was playing quietly and it was all Italian songs which was a nice reinforcement of the Italian ambiance. I definitely recommend Panico's for everyday dining, for lunch and for special occasions. The location is great also (directly across the street from a parking garage).
Always walked by this Place going to Stress Factory or other Restaurants/Bars nearby and wanted to go in as it looked like one of the Nicer Italian Restaurants in New Brunswick. However, while it looks nice and upscale, the food does not compare.
Across the street from this Location is a smaller Panico's that is a Pizzeria. While I have not had any food from that location, the food I was served at the Restaurant is what I would expect of the Pizzeria. There was nothing that set this Restaurant out from any other average Restaurant/Pizzeria. Although one could argue that their Prices are above average because for the quality of food, it was WAY overpriced.
The appetizer we chose was an Al Pollo Flatbread. This could have easily been something I curated myself in my kitchen with flavorless grilled chicken, sliced beefsteak tomato, and pre-packed Mozzarella. Next was our Entree's, both of which consisted of Chicken. While we had two totally Entree's, the chicken was the same; grilled with some dry herb seasoning (same as on the Flatbread...). The Desserts we chose were the Chocolate Chip Cannoli and the Chocolate Souffle. While the Desserts were good, can you ever say you went to a Restaurant and had a bad Dessert?
For the total price I paid for two ($160), which included 1 Appetizer, 2 Entree's, 2 Dessert's, 2 Beer's and 2 Wine's, I would rather go next store to Steakhouse 85 and have a real meal for only $60 more. I will definitely look elsewhere next time I am looking for Italian food in New Brunswick and so should you.
I was in for a very late lunch/early dinner. I was left alone for very long periods of time. Luckily, I was not in a hurry. My calamari was good but way overpriced. My shrimp Alfredo was simply good, the shrimp were tough, and it too was way overpriced. I think it gets so many good reviews because people are nostalgic. I would not go back.
This restaurant appears to be living off of their reputation from 10 years ago. We were there on an evening when there was a performance at the State Theatre and were the only ones there. The service from the staff was slow and inattentive while we've had much better meals for a lot less money at neighborhood Italian restaurants.
Dependably good food and good service. There was a function in the main dining room, so we were seated in what used to be a private room..very very nice. We shared Caesar salad and stuffed clams to start. Dinners were veal parmigiana, veal Francese, and a soecial of shrimp on angel hair pasta. Portions were substantial and quality was excellent.
The apps were fine, though the clams oreganata were particularly tiny. Our entrees were quite good, especially the linguini primavera. Deserts were tasty too. Service, however was poor. Our waiter was virtually non-existent. When we needed some silverware, I got it myself. If we wanted a drink, any drink, we had to get a different waiter go find ours. And the bussing staff didn't have a clue what they were doing. It was like a few kids from the neighborhood showed up in black shirts and were never told what they were to do or how to do it. Kind of disappointing for a place like this.
Panico's used to be our "go-to" special occasion restaurant. It was old school Jersey Italian. Now the service is confusing, the menu lacks a POV and the food is nothing special. We were disappointed. Competition should make you improve but it seems to have had the opposite effect.
We have lived in the New Brunswick area for years but have never been tempted to visit Panico's. We went there on Fridat night and were pleasantly surprised. We were given a very nice window seat and served with excellent bread and oil. The beet salad--which we shared--was tasty. Our entrees were very nice as well. I had an excellent pork chop and my wife--who is very fastidious about fish dishes--thought he tuna was delicious. I think it is a solid 4-star establishment. The cappuccinos at the end of the meal were also quite good.
We asked for their special veal chop, waited some time approximately ten minutes or more before being told they were out of veal. Ordered from regular menu my date had rib eye the meat was fairly good size but not to her liking and I ordered veal piccata, the veal was a little tough which does happen with veal but just did not taste the way I like. Overall we both decided we would prefer not to dine there again.
