We found the food was delicious, as it was in its prior location, but the service was poor. Our server, Dana I believe, tried her best but it appeared she had not been trained sufficiently or lacked experience. No one came around to refill water glasses, we were not asked promptly if we needed add’l drinks or if we wanted anything else. In fact, the bill arrived before anyone was asked if they wanted coffee. I won’t rush back.
Made a reservation thinking it was the original higher end Panicos and we got there and they moved to a pizzeria across the street. Not what we signed up for. Waitress didn’t know anything. Food was mediocre and they said they had the panicos wine list but they didn’t have anything other than a few btls. Cocktails were like a pizza place would serve. They should have posted on open table that they went out of biz and moved to a more casual pizzeria across the street.
This was the most disappointing and embarrassing day of my business life.I invited two of my customers & their wives to dinner at a "very nice " Italian restaurant .Panico's. I made the reservations and they were confirmed by Open Table at Panico's 103 Church St.When we arrived there was a sign on the door that stated Panico's relocated across the street to 93 Church St.We went into the "restaurant "and it was a pizzeria which is were I do not take customers for dinner. It was getting late so we stayed. My comments are reflected above regarding the food and service.Again this is a pizzeria geared to the college and theater crowd that has no atmosphere.I am very disappointed that I was not informed of this change.Embarrased because this is not the type of restaurant where I take my customers.
IT USED TO BE
Panico's used to be separated into 2 different restaurants, a casual pizza place and a more formal restaurant. Now they have merged. The room where we were seated was outdated and had a faintly odd odor to it. The menu was strange and ranged from casual sandwiches to more formal. The food tasted very good, but the waitress did mess up some of our orders. The presentation was mediocre. the prices were fair. The bar was nice and there was live music
Terribly disappointing. We booked through open table and were unaware that ge restaurant was closed and that our dinner with out of town guests would be in a pizzeria. Very upsetting.
I did not check any of the above boxes for a reason. Upon arriving at Panico's on Friday, 2/23 at 6:30pm, the restaurant looked dark inside. It was, along with chunks of concrete on the floor and dust everywhere. Panico's had closed for good, and as a subscriber to Open Table, I was never notified. Fortunately, my husband and I went next door to another restaurant, and we were lucky to get a table for 2 immediately. We had a concert to attend a few blocks away at 8:00pm, so we were able to keep our schedule on target. Doesn't Open Table stay on top of these unfortunate situations when a restaurant shuts down? Apparently this happened quite some time ago, since we later found out that Panico's had been sold and the new restaurant had already begun renovations.
The food was average at best. For the price I expected the food to be better. The wild rice was not al-dente but mushy and tasteless. The broccoli also was very plain. I left both side dishes on my plate. The salmon was delicious.
It was an amazing experience only dampened By learning the news that for Panico’s was closing. This is the place where we celebrated all sorts of occasions so Friday night was a bit sad. Thank you for letting us be part of your family.
Panico's offers classic Italian cuisine in an upscale environment. The food is exceptional and we enjoyed the price fixed Valentine's Day menu where each guest can order an appetizer, entree and a dessert for a reasonable price.
Beware- they serve undercooked food! We went for Valentine's day dinner and the place was barely half full. We were seated immediately and given water, however it took our waiter over 15 minutes to take our order. We were told they would be bringing out bread but after watching every table around us receive theirs we had to ask 2 different people to receive ours. I then asked for a glass of wine and was told that they had to find our waiter. After waiting another 10 minutes we asked where our waiter was and he finally rushed out to take my order. After being there almost 45 minutes we finally received our food only to find out that my husband's chicken was raw. They took his meal off the bill but then rushed us out without any apologies. Never going back again
Staff was very attentive and the food was delicious.
Food Quality was superb.
Service pace was just right - never felt rushed.
Keyboard player/singer at the bar was very good.
Servers were nice, but slow. Bathrooms need repair and the place is old. Needs an update. This being said, food was okay and it is convenient to theater and comedy club. Second time here, but we will try another restaurant next time.
Had some concerns based on the mixed reviews available on line about this restaurant. My overall experience unfortunately trended toward the lower end of the range.
Outstanding meal as usual. Loved the sausage rabe for appetizer. The carbonara for entree was amazing too. Chuckym Marsala was delic. Creme brûlée dessert outstanding.
Solid place, very nice and patient wait staff. Food B+
the restaurant provides the best of the original high quality Italian dining experiences. The menu offered many appetizer, salad, and entree items along with specials for the day. The salads, a spinach and red beet and a pear salad, were very fresh and flavorful. We each had the salmon risotto that was done to our specifications. On top of the quality of the food and drinks, the waiter was very helpful and friendly as we extended our dining experience with a late Xmas gift exchange.
My husband and I have dined at Panico's for many years. This is the first time that the food was a disappointment. The arugula salad was wilted and the arugula itself was days past its prime, and it did not taste fresh. My shrimp parm was decent, but not outstanding. I must say that the service was excellent and the staff was extremely accommodating. I might add that the bathroom was very dirty and unsanitary, something which must be addressed. It was Christmas Eve and it should have been more special and up to par. Very disappointed.
Theatre menu was well worth the price. Holiday decorations set a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Outstanding service as always. Love the eggplant rollatinis. Chicken dishes are awesome too. Great wine list.
I've been to Panicos before and enjoyed it this time I ordered grouper and it was served covered in olive oil. I thought it was too much. I sent it back and it came back on a fresh plate but no oil. the fish was mediocre tasting. I expected better. the fish was $30 and I was disappointed.
One of our favorites for many years. We often recommend it to friends and family.
Dee - the bartender was an outstanding social hostess. Dees recommendations were fabulous as well as her conversation and attention to detail. If we come back it’ll be when Dee is working. Truly a great evening!
We were very uncomfortable. The restaurant should never have accepted reservations if the restaurants main dining room had been previously reserved for a company's xmas party. We had the option to sit in a tiny back room, that smelled of gas and felt like a closet. We opted for the main dining room and were literally part of their awards ceremony. It's understandable if we were walk ins but to accept our reservations... was very greedy on the restaurant's part (Yes, we could have left but we had purchased a local flavor deal prior to our arrival).
Beautiful restaurant. Excellent service. Food was delicious
The food was okay, my risotto was very good my husband's sea food dish was somewhat tasteless. The service was efficient but seemed rushed.
Awesome all around. Service, food and ambiance. A must go to
Awesome place! Food, service and atmosphere was outstanding! Would definitely return and recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
I love this place. For some reason, it doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. My husband and I always enjoy the beauty, peaceful setting , the attention from the wait staff and the delicious food. I highly recommend it. Heads up--at times they have big parties and this will change the atmosphere so if you're looking for a romantic lovely stop, ask about that.
Love the atmosphere here..warm and welcoming as is the staff. We are always made to feel important! We shared clams to start, prepared with white wine and garlic as requested. Always a good thing when you can have it your way! We both chose the chicken balsamic for dinner. Chicken pieces were pounded in a lovely balsamic sauce. It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. We washed it down with a reasonably priced bottle of Sauvignon blanc.
Used to come here frequently years ago, the current I carnation doesn't measure up in terms of food quality. Very overpriced for the quality of food we were served.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and offered a choice of seating in the restaurant. We received personalized service from both the maître d' and two waiters. Our meal was served with care and it was delicious. The restaurant's atmosphere was lovely. It was quiet which is such a treat in today's climate of noisy restaurants. Music was playing quietly and it was all Italian songs which was a nice reinforcement of the Italian ambiance. I definitely recommend Panico's for everyday dining, for lunch and for special occasions. The location is great also (directly across the street from a parking garage).
We were embarrassingly late for our reservation but they were able to accommodate us. Food was delicious and portions were perfect.
Always walked by this Place going to Stress Factory or other Restaurants/Bars nearby and wanted to go in as it looked like one of the Nicer Italian Restaurants in New Brunswick. However, while it looks nice and upscale, the food does not compare.
Across the street from this Location is a smaller Panico's that is a Pizzeria. While I have not had any food from that location, the food I was served at the Restaurant is what I would expect of the Pizzeria. There was nothing that set this Restaurant out from any other average Restaurant/Pizzeria. Although one could argue that their Prices are above average because for the quality of food, it was WAY overpriced.
The appetizer we chose was an Al Pollo Flatbread. This could have easily been something I curated myself in my kitchen with flavorless grilled chicken, sliced beefsteak tomato, and pre-packed Mozzarella. Next was our Entree's, both of which consisted of Chicken. While we had two totally Entree's, the chicken was the same; grilled with some dry herb seasoning (same as on the Flatbread...). The Desserts we chose were the Chocolate Chip Cannoli and the Chocolate Souffle. While the Desserts were good, can you ever say you went to a Restaurant and had a bad Dessert?
For the total price I paid for two ($160), which included 1 Appetizer, 2 Entree's, 2 Dessert's, 2 Beer's and 2 Wine's, I would rather go next store to Steakhouse 85 and have a real meal for only $60 more. I will definitely look elsewhere next time I am looking for Italian food in New Brunswick and so should you.
Come hungry. Big portions. Food is good. Too noisy. Inside an old church. Bench seating is not nice. Cushions too soft and too on top of one another.
I haven't been to New Brunswick in many years and was hoping that Panicos would be as good as I remember. Still has the best Osso bucco I've ever had.
I was in for a very late lunch/early dinner. I was left alone for very long periods of time. Luckily, I was not in a hurry. My calamari was good but way overpriced. My shrimp Alfredo was simply good, the shrimp were tough, and it too was way overpriced. I think it gets so many good reviews because people are nostalgic. I would not go back.
We have been here a number of times for their excellent Italian menu. Ambiance and service are always equally good. Front dining area is near bar with sports tv. Rear area is romantic and low-lit, perfect for dates or special occasions.
This restaurant appears to be living off of their reputation from 10 years ago. We were there on an evening when there was a performance at the State Theatre and were the only ones there. The service from the staff was slow and inattentive while we've had much better meals for a lot less money at neighborhood Italian restaurants.
My father in law turned 90 years old. We had a wonderful meal this pasted Sunday 6/11/17.
The food and service was excellent. Would return again for a great meal.
