Pane e Vino Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
Amazing... expect the unusual and spectacular flavors.... VERY extensive menu, making it difficult to choose. Followed waiters suggestions, no disappointments! Seems pricey, until you experience the flavors and find out you're full (and satisfied) half way through, ...and only wanting to taste MORE!.... One of, if not truly the BEST truly original and truly Italian restaurants in all of the San Francisco! Kudos to master chef (and owner) Bruno! THE place to go, innocence hiding behind 'casual'... and surpassing anything you may have enjoyed before!
Take your time, ...enjoy, ....luxuriate in amazing natural flavors, starters to ending (you'll only want to savor every bite) ...in a very casual setting.
This was only the second visit (with 'special fiends') in over a year, (the first visit was equally an enjoyable "taste fest") just a distance to travel, now a 'regular'... booking another visit asap...
This was a business dinner for four. In a nutshell, this qualifies as a neighborhood gem. Not fancy but good food that left us completely satisfied. The burrata salad was wonderful as was the petrale sole and lamb chops. We split 2 desserts: tiramisu was substantial and wonderful. The wine list was all Italian and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is not fancy but nice. The acoustics were fine until a foursome of 4 came in and proceeded to listen to their phones at a very loud level. So rude so we left. I would go back if I were in the neighborhood for sure.
The food is consistently good. It has been the same for years, and always pleases. The wine list is good, although you get no bargains. The corkage fee is outrageous for a casual -$30- The atmophere is casual and can be hectic. I recommend it highly, except for the wine issue.
We took my well traveled friends with us as a thank you dinner. They just loved the ambiance and said it seemed just like a friendly restaurant that they would go to in Italy. The food is good. the staff is friendly and very accomodating. It is one of our very favorite neighborhood places.
Been going to Pane e Vino since they were at Steiner St and now Union St. I live few blocks up the hill. Great neighbourhood ITALIAN food. Love the bread and dipping in the thick olive oil with sweet balsamic. Very creamy risotto and my husband love the minestrone with bread.
Every experience at this restaurant has been consistently fantastic! Professional waiters, delicious gourmet Italian food, great wine list, amazing bread, great vibe, needless to say... I will definitely be coming back again! This is our go to place whenever we meet friends in San Francisco. Try it, you will not be disappointed!!!
We went on a Thursday night and though we had reservations for 8:00pm we were early but were promptly seated. The restaurant was full, but I couldn't help but notice that it was a much older crowd. I'm old, but many of the customers were in their 70s and 80s. We were seated next to a friendly group of people and spent most of our dinner chatting with them. This made the evening more fun; however, the food was only mediocre. My pasta paparadelle with chicken and mushrooms was soft and overcooked (unacceptable for an Italian restaurant) and my husband's sand dabs, with steamed vegetables on the side, were good but uninspired. For a "I don't feel like cooking tonight" restaurant, I would go here. For really good Italian food, I would go elsewhere.
Sorry to say, as I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was one of the worst dining meals I've had in San Francisco. Overcooked chicken, their special pasta with mushrooms and truffles was mushy and flavors did not work, the cured meats in the antipasto tasted old. Foodies, take a pass.
we all had a pasta dish. Our friends were pleased with theirs but my husband and I each had
linguine with clams and mussels. We both had a bad mussel and found more empty clam
shells than clams. The dish was a bit disappointing. Too bad because the atmosphere
was pleasant and the service fine.
Phenomenal house bread with olive oil (light, fluffy, warm - heaven!)
Slow and not very attentive service
Good entrees, but steep prices
Roasted half-chicken (special) and Pizza Capricciosa were great
They missed the birthday memo, so we had to ask, but then sang and it was really sweet
Must have caught them on a bad night. In fact,a very bad night as both our meals were mediocre at best. My fience said her pasta dish had a refrigerator taste and was absent iod any customary food flavors. I was excited about the rabbit on the menu, but in the end wished I had tried anything else. Rabbit was dry and leathery and was also devoid of the flavors I have had at other local establishments in the Bay Area. They were also quite generous on salt with this dish.
This establishment was rrcommended to us by a friend who raved about the restaurant and touted it as the best Italian restaurant in the Bay Area. From now on.we will avoid his recommendations at all cost. The best thing about this meal was the water. It felt real good to me after the salty rabbit.
Terrific classic Italian dining. Large portions expertly prepared food. My branzino was outstanding and I have had branzino in many many restaurants. The pastas were generous as well as tasty. Service was prompt and friendly and attentive throughout the meal. It is not inexpensive but if you are a food lover then you will not be disappointedly.
