Chicken was really dry, so rather disappointing. But the pasta was tasty. Cute little neighborhood place, with tables very close to each other. Thought it was too pricey for the starters.
Lacked luster and service was mediocre.
Excellent service - excellent food
Terrific classic Italian dining. Large portions expertly prepared food. My branzino was outstanding and I have had branzino in many many restaurants. The pastas were generous as well as tasty. Service was prompt and friendly and attentive throughout the meal. It is not inexpensive but if you are a food lover then you will not be disappointedly.
LOVE Pane e Vino--best ever Italian favorites. The eggplant fusilli with smoked mozzarella is outstanding (and I'm full blooded Italian.) Other pastas, carpaccio, appetizers, chicken, salmon...all excellent. They even stuff their artichokes with artichokes!! Highly recommend...the service is friendly & excellent....for everyday or special occasion. Buon appetite!
Delicious minestrone soup, fine wine, pastas are all home made and perfectly cooked, not to mention the home made cheese cake. Perfection!
Great authentic Italian place. Just got back from Italy and the food is on par with the food we enjoyed there. A bit pricey, but good ambiance, food and staff (this place is not a cheesy North Beach Italian restaurant). Highly recommend!
We always enjoy this restaurant. Great food and wine
I found the $2 per person "cover charge" annoying. Like adding "healthy SF," this is a way to give the appearance of keeping prices low while charging more.
The chairs are very uncomfortable and badly need to be replaced.
A long time favorite of ours, but starting to fall off of our "radar screen" due to the above.
Excellent food and very pleasant atmosphere. Wonderful selection of wines. Enjoyed our evening completely and will definitely go back plus recommend to friends.
A great always go to fav. Good is always delicious. I have been going there since it was in Steiner St. 25+ years. Love it!!!
We've had excellent dining experiences here since 2004 but, not this past weekend. The service was just okay. Plates were not cleared, drinks were not refilled, the table was not cleaned when needed. Entree's that we have always enjoyed were not prepared well. I wonder if a different chef was substituting.
From the salad of bresaola con rucula, to the gnocchi pasta, to the fine barbaresco to accompany the delicious sole, it was a foodie delight.....
My husband and I were staying in the San Francisco area and a friend recommended this restaurant to us, and wow...I'm glad we followed her advice! Very authentic Italian fare, excellent wines (of course), and with a wait staff of...wait...you guessed it...Italians! We loved the food and the ambiance but especially, we loved that we were treated like old friends who had been patronizing the restaurant for years. We were warmly greeted and seated and were even introduced to Chef Bruno, who is the sweetest, elderly Italian man (I seriously wanted to pack him in my suitcase and take him home with me!! ). His energy, passion, and joy were contagious! So, if you're in the SF area, head on over to Pane e Vino Trattoria and say hello to Bruno. You may even be serenaded! :)
Warm Hospitality, an atmosphere and food that captures the feelings and flavors of your favorite trattoria in Italy. See you there!
This was my second time there. I found it accidentally when family was visiting and was dying to go back, so I planned a business dinner there. Excellent food, excellent service. Would absolutely go again.
My wife and I, and our 2 kids had a very nice meal. Pasta was superb.
I said the restaurant was quiet because we always go before the rush about 5:30..... by 7 the sound goes way up. This is pure neighborhood dining, very consistent, great wait staff! Carlos may be on vacation, but Salvatore is doing a great job. Tommaso, the blonde Venetian, is the waiter to request! Mangiamo!
Great local place with excellent food and service. Would definitely be back
Great neighborhood spot (locals coming in just to take bag of fresh baked bread home). Broad variety of menu items in a folksy trattoria with couples as well as families with kids. While food is good (not great), it's worth a visit and a very good value.
Friendly neighborhood place. Homemade sauces. Large portions, attentive staff, and warm environment. Limited vegan options, although staff and kitchen willingly accommodated. Great bread. We had a great time and the atmosphere was lively, friendly and warm.
Absolutely the best Italian food in San Francisco!
Great meal, great atmosphere, very friendly staff. The best italian dinner I've had in the US for some time!
On a recent visit to San Francisco we were looking for a great place, not a tourist trap, to catch up with family. With a very particular teenager in tow, we decided on Italian and read the reviews and high praise of Pane e Vino Trattoria. The food was exceptionally good, especially the pasta dishes. While the restaurant was quite busy, the ambiance was energetic and enjoyable and we found it easy to talk at our table.
This would be a great place to celebrate a birthday! Several guests were marking a special occasion and were serenaded by the restaurant staff. Often such moments are cringe-worthy with staff going through the motions. That was not the case here! I found myself tuning in each time the staff assembled to serenade an honored guest--with great harmony and in Italian, no less.
I would highly recommend Pane e Vino Trattoria! We had a lovely evening at this establishment!
A value in the Marina; nothing earth-shaking or 'cutting-edge', but all dishes well-prepared; service quite attentive
It's been awhile since we've been here and it still is,one yummy place to eat! The lasagna is fabulous as is the fruit tart for dessert!
We love this place!
This is a family regular. The food is authentic Italian and never a miss. They don't try to make it fancy. It is just delicious classic Italian food.
Good food, nice and attentive staff and quiet environment which is conducive to a private conversation.
Family of four visiting from Virginia got told about this restaurant from a local artisan we met displaying his photographs in union square. It was the best meal we have had so far on our 8 day trip in California. Wish we had something like this in Richmond!
It's my favorite restaurant...like going home!
I love the waiters, the Maitre 'D, the food, the ambience and the familiar, warm, neighborhood feel of the place..
Very friendly reception by the Manager (Carlos), very courteous and effective service by good humored waiters, excellent and genuine Italian food, very good house red wine, a generally pleasant atmosphere, no background music (a plus for civilized conversation). One of the five best restaurants in the SF Bay Area I have been to in the last two years.
Pane e vino continues to be our favorite restaurant. We make sure we dine here every time we come to San Francisco . It never disappoints. Delicious food, warm and welcoming environment, super staff, ---we love it!
What a fantastic dining experience! We felt like we had been transported to Siena or Florence, Italy! Not only did all of the servers speak Italian, but the look, feel, and food all a great Italian restaurant. Not only was the food outstanding, but the service was just as good. We asked for recommendations and everything was fantastic. Being our anniversary, we asked for some of the nicer wine selections. Much to our surprise, they suggested a lower priced wine that amazing! Such a wonderful experience!
Great, very authenic
The food was only mediocre. My pasta was bland and doused in too much cream. My husband's lamb was very bland.
A family owned restaurant with the best food!!!!!!!
Wonderful food and great service! Fabulous neighborhood restaurant! Love to eat here!
This place is authentic and delightful. The food is reliably good and the ambiance and service is terrific.
Food is delicious, service was great, we loved the patio.
It is a place that you want to come back on any celebration.
Friendly and warm staff. Terrific food (genuine Italian). Wish we had this in our neighborhood. A real gem.
