Pane e Vino Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
Phenomenal house bread with olive oil (light, fluffy, warm - heaven!)
Slow and not very attentive service
Good entrees, but steep prices
Roasted half-chicken (special) and Pizza Capricciosa were great
They missed the birthday memo, so we had to ask, but then sang and it was really sweet
Must have caught them on a bad night. In fact,a very bad night as both our meals were mediocre at best. My fience said her pasta dish had a refrigerator taste and was absent iod any customary food flavors. I was excited about the rabbit on the menu, but in the end wished I had tried anything else. Rabbit was dry and leathery and was also devoid of the flavors I have had at other local establishments in the Bay Area. They were also quite generous on salt with this dish.
This establishment was rrcommended to us by a friend who raved about the restaurant and touted it as the best Italian restaurant in the Bay Area. From now on.we will avoid his recommendations at all cost. The best thing about this meal was the water. It felt real good to me after the salty rabbit.
Terrific classic Italian dining. Large portions expertly prepared food. My branzino was outstanding and I have had branzino in many many restaurants. The pastas were generous as well as tasty. Service was prompt and friendly and attentive throughout the meal. It is not inexpensive but if you are a food lover then you will not be disappointedly.
LOVE Pane e Vino--best ever Italian favorites. The eggplant fusilli with smoked mozzarella is outstanding (and I'm full blooded Italian.) Other pastas, carpaccio, appetizers, chicken, salmon...all excellent. They even stuff their artichokes with artichokes!! Highly recommend...the service is friendly & excellent....for everyday or special occasion. Buon appetite!
I found the $2 per person "cover charge" annoying. Like adding "healthy SF," this is a way to give the appearance of keeping prices low while charging more.
The chairs are very uncomfortable and badly need to be replaced.
A long time favorite of ours, but starting to fall off of our "radar screen" due to the above.
We've had excellent dining experiences here since 2004 but, not this past weekend. The service was just okay. Plates were not cleared, drinks were not refilled, the table was not cleaned when needed. Entree's that we have always enjoyed were not prepared well. I wonder if a different chef was substituting.
My husband and I were staying in the San Francisco area and a friend recommended this restaurant to us, and wow...I'm glad we followed her advice! Very authentic Italian fare, excellent wines (of course), and with a wait staff of...wait...you guessed it...Italians! We loved the food and the ambiance but especially, we loved that we were treated like old friends who had been patronizing the restaurant for years. We were warmly greeted and seated and were even introduced to Chef Bruno, who is the sweetest, elderly Italian man (I seriously wanted to pack him in my suitcase and take him home with me!! ). His energy, passion, and joy were contagious! So, if you're in the SF area, head on over to Pane e Vino Trattoria and say hello to Bruno. You may even be serenaded! :)
I said the restaurant was quiet because we always go before the rush about 5:30..... by 7 the sound goes way up. This is pure neighborhood dining, very consistent, great wait staff! Carlos may be on vacation, but Salvatore is doing a great job. Tommaso, the blonde Venetian, is the waiter to request! Mangiamo!
Friendly neighborhood place. Homemade sauces. Large portions, attentive staff, and warm environment. Limited vegan options, although staff and kitchen willingly accommodated. Great bread. We had a great time and the atmosphere was lively, friendly and warm.
On a recent visit to San Francisco we were looking for a great place, not a tourist trap, to catch up with family. With a very particular teenager in tow, we decided on Italian and read the reviews and high praise of Pane e Vino Trattoria. The food was exceptionally good, especially the pasta dishes. While the restaurant was quite busy, the ambiance was energetic and enjoyable and we found it easy to talk at our table.
This would be a great place to celebrate a birthday! Several guests were marking a special occasion and were serenaded by the restaurant staff. Often such moments are cringe-worthy with staff going through the motions. That was not the case here! I found myself tuning in each time the staff assembled to serenade an honored guest--with great harmony and in Italian, no less.
I would highly recommend Pane e Vino Trattoria! We had a lovely evening at this establishment!
Family of four visiting from Virginia got told about this restaurant from a local artisan we met displaying his photographs in union square. It was the best meal we have had so far on our 8 day trip in California. Wish we had something like this in Richmond!
Very friendly reception by the Manager (Carlos), very courteous and effective service by good humored waiters, excellent and genuine Italian food, very good house red wine, a generally pleasant atmosphere, no background music (a plus for civilized conversation). One of the five best restaurants in the SF Bay Area I have been to in the last two years.
