Charming, quaint hotel/restaurant tucked away in a non-descript area of San Rafael. We had a 7:30 p.m. reservation of a Saturday night. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. The menu wasn't large but had a good selection. I had the chicken tortilla soup as an appetizer, a signature dish for them. It was excellent! Full of flavor, just a hint of spice. Though, it could been served hotter, temperature-wise. My entree was the Painted Hills Grilled New York steak (medium rare) with baby potatoes and sauteed spinach. The steak had a chimichurri sauce that was a delicious accompaniment. Steak was cooked perfectly. Potatoes were a bit garlicky, a bit buttery. And the spinach was excellent. A fabulous creme brulee rounded out our lovely evening. They also do lunch and weekend brunch. We'll be back!!

Always cozy, warm and welcoming. Good place for dinner for two (girlfriends or date), rarely are kids around. Beer and wine, good wine list. Food is consistent, always good, fresh and healthy. Been eating here for 20 years!

We’ve always loved the Panama Hotel restaurant, but lately we’re finding the food not as good as in the past. My friends have been making the same comment. Don’t think we’ll be returning anytime soon.

This was my first time here - and I'll be back. The place has a lot of character. It feels like you're spending time in a classy old hotel dining room. The food is quite tasty, and beautifully presented. Both of us enjoyed our red wine.
One tip: the main dining area can be quite noisy on a busy night, so if you're looking for intimate conversation, ask to be seated in a quiet part of the restaurant.

We went to celebrate a birthday dinner for a family member. A warm evening sitting outside with the lights strung across was lovely. We were seated early as our party hadn't all arrived yet. Took about 15 minutes to get noticed by a server just to order something to drink. Ordered Calamari which was incredibly tender but half of it was ice cold, the other half warm. Don't even want to know what that was about.

I ordered salmon which was cooked perfectly but the entire dish was cold, really cold. My companion had mushroom ravioli which were quite bizarre, dry and burnt. Why would ravioli's be burnt? We sent them back and they came back cold covered in lemon juice and olive oil. Very strange never seen that. Our other guests had salmon and pork chop which they enjoyed with no complaints. Rolls were good and butter was soft although wish the rolls were warm. I guess they don't serve hot or warm food. My stomach was sick for 48 hours after the meal so definitely won't be going back anytime soon.

I come to the Panama Hotel as often as I can as I am out of the County. Food unbelievably fresh and creative. Always had great service. My only complaint is the parking. However, I have no problem dropping off my handicap mother then finding a spot in the neighborhood

The Panama Hotel restaurant provides casual gourmet selections. Service was attentive. We sampled mini scallop tostadas, calamari, mussels and their Panama burger. Lots of fresh food selections. Their beet salad was excellent. They have live music nightly. The prices are very reasonable. They have indoor and outdoor dining. The setting is comfortable.

Having had lunch at the Panama Hotel many times, I decided to try dinner one evening.
I enjoyed the opportunity to sit outside and dine during a beautiful fall evening in Marin.
My Baja Seafood Salad was perfect. Crispy romaine lettuce with grilled shrimp, scallops and salmon topped with a corn and black bean salsa and a light vinaigrette. Absolutely delicious!

I was initially dissapointed because the Panama Hotel Restaurant did not have a full bar, they only serve beer and wine. The ahi ceviche appetizer was good, and my wife enjoyed her pasta entree. One of the recommended specials of the evening was a New York strip that I ordered, and it was extremely bland and tough, which explains why it was smothered in mushroom sauce. I ordered it medium rare, and about a quarter of it was actually medium rare, the rest was medium-well to well-done. I would have sent it back, but our waiter was extremely inattentive. When we were ordering, he did not follow-up with us on a question that we asked, nor did he check-in and ask us how the meal was while we were eating. I will not be coming back to the Panama Hotel Restaurant

First time at Panama for dinner after numerous lunch stops. Service was quite slow although the restaurant wasn't full. Server didn't introduce specials until after we ordered and then had to switch things around. Appetizer came out the same time as salads. Pork chop and swordfish entrees were just average. Long wait until entrees arrived. Just seemed like an off nite overall for the Panama after generally great lunch experiences.

I split food with my mom, so tried several things. The tuna ceviche was amazing. Burger & fries good. Tortilla soup was maybe the worst tortilla soup I've ever had - would definitely NOT recommend ordering that.

The live music was great - acoustic and perfect for the setting.

It was my mom's 85th birthday. I asked if they did anything special for birthdays and they sang her Happy Birthday and brought her a sundae with a candle. All that was great, but they charged me something like $10 for the sundae. Don't restaurants usually comp those things? Thought that was tacky after spending well over $100 on the dinner.

Nice and cozy restaurant with great and friendly service. Food is average. Pricing is about right. The artichoke was undercooked, the garlic fries were not hot. Salads were boring as is the menu.
