Meats are good but price is way off the charts expensive and I don't think we'll be returning. I'd rather go to a nice restaurant and get my own meal and not worry about choosing meats as they come to the table. The wait staff and meat servers are wonderful, we were there when the place was empty so we were able to get everything we wanted at a good pace. I can never eat enough of the food bar AND the meats to warrant spending all that money. I'd almost just order the food bar separately and skip the meats, as there are so many really really good dishes and salads on the bar that I didn't scoop up because I knew I'd be too full to enjoy the meats and get my money's worth of them. The tenderloins (adobo pork, and parmesan and garlic and herb beef) are the absolute best, the chicken (mild and spicy) are terrific, and the bacon-wrapped turkey is decadent. If you have a huge stomach, go for it. But it's painful if you try not to overstuff yourself. I wish I could just order the pork tenderloin or the filet alone, and like my son said, just have one salad instead of the whole "food bar".
Go here hungry! Pampas is great for a meat eater with a big appetite. We had 15 different meats being served the night we went and had them all! The salad bar is huge and full of lots of variety to complement the meat dishes. I learned from my first time, not to eat a salad before, but get sides to accompany the meat. I get small tastes of them all. Lots of fun and very tasty! We ate early so the noise level was moderate and the service was excellent!
We loved the creative drinks in the bar. The Diablo cocktail is an interesting and exotic tasting!
The restaurant's decor is beautiful and roomy with soft features to dampen the sounds. The service was wonderful and we loved the amazing array of foods in the salad bar. The meats were wonderful to taste and we enjoyed how they were presented and carved at our table.
A very fun evening and loved the experience!
This used to be my favorite Brazilian Steakhouse in the Bay Area, however after my recent visit it was lacking the flavor and quality it used to have. I had to ask after 20 minutes and watching other tables get the cheese bread and fried goodies if we could get some too as well as water. We and the table all around us were served cold meat. Disappointed in this visit and will have to find a new fave Brazilian steakhouse now.
I went here for an end of the year company lunch and would never go back due to the service. Food was fine but since I do not eat meat I cannot speak for the meat menu/options. There was a lot of confusion going on with the service/servers/managers. We were all very frustrated and wanted to leave but had to wait for everything but the meats that come out on he sword. I would not suggest or go back.

The ambience is slipping a bit in a couple of ways - Lots of dust on the chandeliers, menus torn and in need of replacement, bathroom faucet broken. Not up to the standards in my memory of past visits, however these are small items considering the excellent quality of the service and food, just worth noting since it’s a relatively high-end place.
Much better than other Brazilian restaurants in the Bay Area. Meat quality is high and the cuts are prepared perfectly. Every slice of meat is a hit. The variety of cuts is large enough and they will bring your favorite one to the table upon request. Salad bar is nice, but than again you don't want it to be too good at a place like this because the meat is the thing.
I took my girlfriend to Pampas for her birthday. The food was very good and staff very courteous and friendly. The salad bar was extensive and there was a very wide selection of roasted meats. The roasted pineapple was too good. They gave a complementary scoop of ice cream with a candle for my girlfriend's birthday. Great place for a birthday, anniversary or date.
Phenomenal! Great service and food - the lamb was certainly the best meat dish. Those that complained that the salad bar is just an ordinary salad bar certainly weren't at the one I attended; tasty varieties of veggies, salads, and sides that were all very unique. It's pricey and loud there, but the food and service make up for it.
I have been to Pampas many times. This is the first occasion for which I am giving negative comments. The iced tea was too weak, mostly water...won't ever order iced tea again. Except for our main waiter who did pull off a nice request for dessert, the meat service was terrible...mainly due to one waiter who didn't seem to understand the concept of Pampas. My family and I will certainly go back, but if service is lame again, it may be the last time.
Having experienced rodizios in Argentina and in the U.S., I find the meats at Pampas to not mirror the variety or intense flavor I have come to expect. I wanted to like the place, but I place this in the 'exceptionally good' category I have come to expect of most rodizios, but the meats were all very 'average'. Where most rodizios throw a very wide variety of beef cuts in your direction, on this evening I only recall a SINGLE cut of beef being offered to us, and it was flank steak.
One of the best places in Palo Alto for a special occasion, or if you want to treat someone to a thank you dinner that makes an impact. Just get the radizio and sidebar and you are guaranteed a great experience and can eat as much as you want. If you do have room left, the peanut butter cup dessert is outstanding to share as well.
I used to love Pampas for a special occassion. The service is still lovely, but the meats have gone downhill in my opinion. There is not enough flavors for most of the meats unfortunately and sometimes they are well done which is not to my liking. Unlike Fogo de Chao, when they come around with meat, it looks like they have just enough for our table. Perhaps that was because we went on a Sunday night when it wasn't that busy. At Fogo, they come around with full skewer full of meat. For the Parmesan Filet Mignon, they came around to our table of 4 with 4 pieces. I guess it just seems like they make enough for each table. We didn't get the picanha but to be honest, we didn't ask for it. The Pineapple and chicken hearts were my favorite items of the night. The Chorizo was awful and dry! I guess the fact that the meats seemed one note does not encourage me to ever come back.
My husband and I went to Pampas for a casual dinner. We have been to a Brazilian rodizio many times before. The salad/side bar was poor. The feijoada was not to standard taste. I ordered a sangria, which was undrinkable. The waiter took it from the table, and still charged us for it. The cheese bread was old/dry. The fried banana was undercooked, which makes it taste weird. The serving between meats took ages, and we only saw half of what was advertised. I ask for my meat a little more well done, and they came right at the end.
The meat overall was okay. The lamb and top sirloin was very nicely prepared and tasty, but everything else was bland.
I do not like to complain, but Pampas is really not a reasonable choice. There are better rodizios, if you are willing to drive to San Mateo.
Sadly, Fogo de Chao is much better than this. We went to avoid the "chain" restaurant and support a local restaurant in Palo Alto. The upstairs lacked ambience, although the space with the upstairs and downstairs was unique and different. That's where our appreciation ended. Essentially, we were there to have a tasty meal and the meat was not flavorful unless you had an exterior cut with seasoning. They probably didn't brine the meat because the chicken was so dry and the lamb was so overcooked. The salad bar was minimal with nothing "top shelf" as in, basic sides that any salad bar would offer. Not a lot of thought or flavor went into the dishes except for a very small, select few that were unique and tasty (asian pasta salad, rice, roasted mushrooms). The mozzarella cheese was awful. The broccoli lacked seasoning and was not very cooked... how hard is it to season and steam broccoli?!? We spent almost $240 for a two person dinner and our experience was nothing close to an equitably-priced dining experience at almost any other steak house. We would have had a better experience and food at a chili's for a quarter of the price. At least those meals have been taste tested. Very disappointing for our celebratory dinner for my spouse.
