Palomino - Seattle Ratings and Reviews
Went after theatre..tech problems with the show made us a little late but they still had our table. Our server was wonderful, attentive and friendly without being obnoxious. The food was all delicious but mine was a tad on the cooler side than I prefer, hence the four not five stars.
We had a reservation after the tree lighting at Westlake this holiday so the restaurant (and downtown) was packed. Nevertheless, seating was immediate and service was spot on. The appetizers arrived quickly and the crab and artichoke dip, served warm with crisp flatbread, is definitely one I'll order again. We had the small filet mignons, mine medium rare, my spouse's well done, both perfectly cooked and flavorful. Paired with good wines and friends we hadn't seen in months, this was the perfect venue and food for our evening.
This was my second time at the Palomino for Thanksgiving dinner. Service was good but they only offered me seconds once on coffee the entire time my husband and I were dining and this after we were almost finished eating. The caesar salad tasted as if the romaine came out of the freezer, wilted and soft. The dressing tasted more like oil and vinegar and only had flavor with the lemon that I had to ask for. Very skimpy on the Parmesan cheese too. The turkey dinner was ample but not very hot, the dark meat portion was a bit dry and chewy but the white meat was soft and juicy. Stuffing, potatoes, beans and cranberry relish were very good. The pumpkin spice pie was a bit dry as well with an ultra thin crust and one small dollop of whipped cream. It wasn't bad for a restaurant Thanksgiving dinner but a bit overpriced for what we got, IMO. I will go back but probably not on Thanksgiving again.
We had a wonderful dining experience on our Thanksgiving Dinner. Normally, we host this dinner at our home and decided a change would include being served by another fine chef and staff. Since we are regular patrons, we knew the fine dining experience we were about to enjoy. Its always great to speak with the first class staff at Palomino and spend time here when dining. I can;t say enough about how much I appreciate the Seattle Palomino staff and managers. Thank you once again for providing a wonderful dining experience. See you again on Christmas Eve!
Two friends and I went there recently for an early dinner. We weren't expecting much, although we had all dined there before and found it great. The reason for the lack of enthusiasm was that this particular meal was on Thanksgiving so we anticipated slow service, not all food on the menu available and the possibility of food not cooked to our high expectations. Big surprise! Every low expectation disappeared and was replaced with high reviews. Our server, ammon, was exceptionally good. He recommended a substitution when one order was no longer available and I'm sure it was far better than the original order. His drink suggestions were spot on, as were his dessert recommendations. Plus, he was available to us just the right amount of time despite the fact that they were very busy. It was the perfect meal.
We’ve been to Palomino and have enjoyed the food and ambiance. This time was not as satisfying. The waitperson spilled our drinks. It happens, but it was a lot of liquid on our table and they were inefficient cleaning up and eventually we asked to change tables. The special of the night was snapper and it was way over cooked and dry. Disappointing!
I ordered from the "Specials" menu, swordfish. Very dry and flavor (or lack of) was quite neutral. Certainly did not feel $28.00 worth of flavor / texture satisfaction. My wife had a scallop dish served with risotto in a cream sauce, which was rather tasty. Scallops were prepared well, seared lightly and were "good" (at least in comparison to the swordfish dish). However, the real issue of our overall dissatisfaction was due to our waiter. It was a 5:00pm reservation on a Sunday. Volume of guests was low, so his attitude (unenthusiastic) couldn't have been due to being busy. Extremely dry personality, seemed impatient and apparently didn't feel compelled to make any suggestions or offerings. Becuase he didn't. He was truly just there taking an order! (He felt more like a engineer. Perhaps he's working his way through engineering school). He didn't add any positive energy, enthusiasm to help create a fun and enjoyable experience for our dining party. Having a cheerful, knowledgable and helpful staff person would have gone miles towards leaving Palomino with at least an overal 4 star feeling of our experience, especially enlight of my rather unsatisfying meal.
I took relatives here for dinner while they were in town visiting Seattle this past Saturday. This restaurant was in walking distance from their downtown hotel, and typically, the food has been good from my previous experiences. Luckily my relatives seemed to enjoy their dinner dishes: Chicken Marsala and Prawn Scampi with pasta; however, my dish was the special: Red Snapper with Orange and Olive Relish...sounds kind of good, right? Well, it wasn't. Snapper tasted fishy, and the farrow with dried fruits that accompanied it was too rough of a grain beside the semi-delicate textured snapper. Another, softer, grain would have been a better choice for the snapper. Also, mixed green salad, while generous in portion, lacked flavor; the olive oil used in the dressing was good, but it needs more than lemon to boost the flavor. I would have said something had I not been entertaining guests, but I don't like to make a fuss when others seem to be enjoying their dinner (thank goodness). All in all, Palomino is capable of better; I have had much better dinners there before. I suggest they discontinue that Red Snapper dish.
ON THE NOISEY SIDE....BU T WHAT RESTAURANT ISN'T...AND BESIDES I WEAR HEARING AIDS...BUT THEY DO NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
IN BUILDING PARKING IS A STRONG ATTRIBUTE NEVER TO BE UNDERESTIMATED.
ALL STAFF INTERACTIONS WERE PRECISE AND PROFESSIONAL...AS ALWAYS.
STILL MY CITY FAVORITE AFTER DECADES
Our first time at palomino, second trip to Seattle. Great location in down town. Nice atmosphere with balcony seating over looking a mall area and with views of the street life. We enjoyed a pasta dish and a seafood dish. The food was quite tasty, our waiter did a great job, service was attentive without being intrusive. The best part of the evening was that we were able to enjoy our conversation with out shouting at each other. Seems too many other restaurants downtown are just too crowded to be relaxing. Thanks!
My son and I went here for dinner before seeing a show at the 5th Avenue Theater. The server asked if we were under time constraints for dinner. That was very nice so we knew we would have plenty of time to get to the show. The restaurant is very close to the theater so it's a great pre and post show restaurant. Dinner was delicious and we were glad we chose this spot.
The food was great. The staff was even better. We went in for our anniversary and the staff wrote us a hand drawn and written anniversary card. They asked us upon arrival if we had a time constraint and we informed our wait staff we had to be at a show by a certain time. They ensured great service and time management.
We were very disappointed. Upon making the reservation I asked the hosts suggestion on time to make a show. He assured me that we would have enough time if we arrived at 5:30. We told our server upon our early arrival that we wanted to leave by 7:15 at the latest to make the a show. She took our beverage order and then didn’t return for about 30+ mins for our food order. By the time we ordered our food and finally received our food, we had about 15mins to eat it. We didn’t have time to enjoy our meals nor did we have time to look over the bill. Afterwords I found out they insanely overcharged us for my cocktail— A vodka (well) & water, $15 each. My friend ordered a tito’s & club soda and his drink was twice the size of mine and half the price. Their signature cocktails weren’t even $15 either. We should have really looked over the bill but we were in such a rush we didn’t have time.
Our server’s timing seemed off all evening. When our dinner came out it appeared as if it had set under the kitchen lights too long. My snapper and risotto was very dry and I gave up trying to salvage it. An observant busboy noticed, asked and spoke to the kitchen on my behalf. They took care of me and the evening was not a fail, but my two companions were disappointed in their Chicken Marsala as well. Palominos is one of our go-to places so we are worried about the direction of the food.
