Palomino - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
On occasion I have had business meals at Palomino. In the past, the service was exceptional. However, on this occasion with 8 colleagues, we waited nearly an hour for our food once it was ordered. After asking the server about the delay, he said the restaurant was down a chef. Since we were on a tight timeline, we had to quickly eat our meal, pay the bill, and leave. This is unacceptable for business lunches. I expect more from Palomino.
The location of this restaurant is what makes it worth going. It is right next to the beautiful Bay bridge and the Embarcadero. The restaurant is moderately upscale and has a nice decor. Also a nice patio with great views. Service was good. My only complaint was that the food was just a litte better than average, nothing special. It just should have been prepared a little better.
We went on a Monday night. It was not crowded and so it was quiet, comfortable, with good views of the bridge lights. Food ranged from OK to very good. Prices are quite reasonable for San Francisco. Deserts were popular with my fellow diners. Service was friendly and efficient.
It has been a few years. Palomino’s does not serve the fresh baked bread with the meals anymore. I was looking forward to it. The sister restaurants: Horatio’s & Kincaid’s still serve fresh baked bread. Very few restaurants serve bread. I was a bit disappointed when the server missed one thing - the Caesar salad to be served with the dressing on the side. Ice the dressing is on it we could not split it. The dressing was way too much. Other than that it was a nice meal.
Usually the food is pretty good but on this visit the chicken Marsala was disappointing. Small portio and the meat wad poorly trimmed. There were pockets of fibrous material on the meat - chewy and off-putting. Carlos was the brite spot with his usual great service.
I've been to Palomino many times in the afternoon when it's crowded. This time it was for brunch and we didn't even need the reservation. We were seated on the patio promptly. The staff needed to verify our order three times, but it came out correctly. The best part of brunch was that they offer a bloody Mary bar to make your own.
Plenty of outside space but the sun does go down behind the building so ends up in shade. Service was good, when it got going! We seemed to wait an age for our first drinks as each person passed on responsibility for getting our drinks to someone else, it was laughable!
After that, really enjoyed it there.
Only downside really was despite some chairs being placed to the side of the outside dining area, you still have to enjoy clouds of 'pot' from people smoking it there!
Service was extremely slow out on the patio. It appeared there were only 2 servers during lunch. It took a very long time to order our meal and also a long wait for the food to arrive. We had to flag down another server to get the bill. The food was underwhelming. We were at the restaurant for nearly 2 hours. This is not an optimal restaurant to go and have a good meal during lunch time.
When the sun comes out in the city the best place to be is close to the bay! Although the food was quite tasty, the service was a little slow. Fortunately it was a beautiful warm sunny day and we had plenty of time for great conversation. The signature crab & artichoke dip with flatbread is a must have and be sure to try the shrimp & quinoa salad.... excellent!
Really convenient place to meet friends who are visiting San Francisco . I drove in from the East Bay left Martinez at 5:30 and was parked by 6: 15 on a Tuesday. Restaurant has free parking for three hours ticket validated with dinner . Best deal in town . Weather was perfect no jacket required -late September.
The General Manager and our server Jim were both extraordinary! We celebrated our engagement on Saturday night and they made it so special. We had the perfect table and the recommendations for our wine and food were perfect. We will definitely be back soon!!!
This is my go to place for entertaining out of state guests because of the views of the bay bridge.
This past visit I was a little disappointed in the food and the service. We ordered cocktails and it took some time for them to arrive with the explanation from our waiter that the bar was a little backed up. We chose the three course menu for $25.00 and had to wait for each entry. The chicken parm was just OK as was the pasta that came with it. Hopefully this was an off night because I really would like to go back
