Palomino - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
The Palomino is a great spot for a business lunch. The food is always good and the location by the waterfront is a plus and offers underground parking. I had the scallops and they were cooked to perfection. I'm a frequent customer and have never had a bad experience there. One of my favorite San Francisco restaurants.
We coordinated a family dinner with persons from several different locations all converging on Palomino's. None of us had ever been here before. We were all very happy with the event. Food, service, atmosphere, selection, quality, kids-friendly; all were very good. We will bring family and friends together at Palomino's again.
One small complaint. Palomino's has their own parking lot under the building, which is a huge plus in downtown San Francisco. The restaurant validates the cost of parking. We found that upon departure the validation is for 3-hours only. Our party took 4 hours with drinks, hor-durves, dinner, desserts, etc.. Total bill was +$600.00. The additional hour cost $9.00 per carload, or $36.00 total.
I sent a e-mail to Manager Tina Pham asking her to reimburse the additional hour of parking. She never replied to my e-mail. I will follow-up with the General Manager, Sarper Oztemiz.
Living in the area, we came on a whim. We had the 3 courses for $25 special Palomino offers during Giants home games. The food was tasty but heavy. It's of course going to be a function of what you order. But unless your stomach has been hardened by weekly visits to Applebees and the like, you may want to steer clear of the four-cheese rotini. It will taste good then, but you may pay later. The real gem of this place is Happy Hours on the outdoor patio.
This establishment has been here for a long time...
A co-worker gave me a gift certificate for Palomino in 1996 and it got tucked away (misplaced) when we moved into our new house in Concord. Finding the gift certificate 20 years later and procuring Giants tickets off we went to have a delightful evening. A short walk from Embarcadero Bart got our appetite going. Online reservations was easy to make and we were seated immediately after arriving. The menu had a lot of choices of food and spirits. I choose the Triple play (Giants home game special). Started with the chop chop salad followed by the Palomino Burger finishing off with the creme brulee, the food was excellent. Service was fast and attentive.
So nice to visit a place that has been around for a very long time and we hope to return again soon.
Great location, friendly staff and good food. Validated parking is available in the Hill's Brothers Building. Entrance is hard to find and located on Folsom Street near the Embarcadero. Try the crab and artichoke dip and the Scallops. Great hangout after work in San Francisco.
food has improved over the years--I work nearby so this is a regular haunt, but I'm usually tepid about the food. However, the kale & quinoa salad and special ravioli (butternut squash, I think) I had recently were amazing! The deck is a zoo and happy hour is a disaster (good luck getting a table and any service!) but lunch time is usually dependable. Outside seating would be improved if we could make reservations out there I think.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming and we were shown to our table at once. They also had noted that we were going to a concert and took care to make sure we finished with time to spare. The food was very good, though the tables were a bit bunched together and the water had trouble manuevering between our table and the next one.
Sadly, our meal was very dissatisfying for three out of four of us. Two of us ordered the pork chop and we both found it to be overcooked and tasteless, and unfortunately smothered in some super sweet sauce. Another one of us ordered the short rib and she found it tasteless. Will not be coming back here and would not recommend it.
I never write reviews- but went here on Sunday for brunch. The restaurant had many empty tables and our service was still extremely slow. The "charred" kale salad was raw- not charred and just a plate of cold kale on a plate. Had to send it back. They were out of yoghurt for the parfait and forgot multiple times to bring one of our sides. To top it off-got a note from OpenTable saying we had missed our reservation. Would not go back. Plenty of good places to eat San Francisco.
Nice restaurant, was seated right away on a Saturday 7 pm reservation. We all enjoyed our meals, good quality/value ratio. Server was very nice.
I had put a "birthday celebration" in the reason for dinning and unfortunately it was never acknowledge, but overall nice evening, will return.
We went for our 10 year anniversary, and we are from out of state.
The sodas they gave us tasted flat and watered down.
The server wasn't very personable or on top of his job, almost seemed like he was trying to hurry us.
For the occasion and the quality of the food it was a disappointment. I will never go back.
Made reservations because we wanted to see the Bay Bridge lit up.
What a find. The meals we had were delicious (pork chop, spaghetti & maple salad dressing salad) & we all raved how yummy our meals were. The cinnamon donuts with raspberry jam & nutella blew our minds.
Service was great & the view of the bridge was amazing. We will definitely return.
Our only issue this time was that we started with one waiter and after a considerable delay, he back to let us know that his area had been changed and we were assigned to another waiter who never served us. He was very apologetic and ended up serving us after all. The blame in this case would be on management if the waiter was correct.
We have eaten at Palomino twice now and have left each time incredibly happy with our food, service and overall dining experience. We had the joy of the same server both times and well and he did an outstanding job of helping us feel well cared for. He was interested in what we were looking for and understood the menu well. He was intersting, humorous, and has a superb memory!
The food is everything you'd expect for a restaurant of this level in the Embarcadero area.
If you're looking for a lively experience, take part in happy hour and enjoy the large outdoor patio seating, and great half price drinks. if you want something quiet and cozy ask to be seated inside. Either way you won't be disappointed!
Good restaurant with a great view of the Bay. Service is great. Food was above average, well presented and plated. Great for a first date. Good happy hour menu. Good desserts. My only thing to nitpick are the wine glasses. It needs to replaced and upgraded - badly. Their standard wine glass must match their wine list. Other than that, I would come back again for good value in food. Great views and vibrant bar scene. Perfect for happy hour and sports.
There were 9 of us at this birthday dinner. Our waitperson was quite inattentive. He was perhaps stretched thin but seemed clueless in general. We had to wait a long time for our entrees. Other diners who had arrived after us were served first. Each time we inquired about our food, we were told it would be coming shortly Out of sheer frustration and hunger, we went to the open kitchen to find out for ourselves. The manager told us that some of our entrees (prawn scampi) had been left on the counter too long while the other entrees were being prepared. Because the scampi was not to their standard, they would make new ones for us. They could have informed us about this sooner! When the food was finally served, the prawns were so tough that we suspect that they had been re-cooked. The manager did redeem herself by not charging us for the scampi entrees and the entree for the birthday person. In addition, she gave us a $100 gift certificate.
The only qualm I had with the restaurant was it was tough to identify the front, but the service to help me find it was great. I ordered an appetizer and the burger both of which were superb bursting with flavor. Would highly recommend. Great for people watching.
