Palomino - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Went there because a co-worker was retiring. Ambiance was nice and service very good. Waiters were attentive. The food is regular American fare, nothing outstanding. The sauce in the pasta was a little too creamy for my taste. Fries are the thin cut type and very good.
Food was amazing but still a little over priced the server seemed over whelmed ans didn't know anything about the drinks but was able to get me a small taste of two different wines(which they usually dont do there) the restaurant has a great view of the bay bridge on the patio or at a window seat
Chose this restaurant to treat a cousin on their anniversary visit to SF, vicinity to Ferry Building was a factor. Had the chicken marsala, other diners had the prawn bowl, Roma pizza and scallops. All dishes were excellent and service was superb. Great view of the Bay Bridge also.
My wife and I join our younger son and his girlfriend for dinner on Christmas Day each year. This year our son chose Palomino. Wow, what a wonderful place to eat Christmas dinner! The food was fabulous, the wait staff amazing and the views terrific. When our older son comes to town in two weeks we're going back to Palomino!
This was my second visit to Palomino. The first time was delightful , so I decided to take my son there for Christmas. There was no special menu that day, and service was very slow. We waited 30 minutes for our entrees. When I asked the waiter why they were taking so long, he said he would check. He did not come back to our table after checking. My son ordered dessert, a lemoncello cake which I assume is already prepared, and that did not get served for another 15 minutes. Perhaps the waiter was new, or it was too crowded that night, but it was a disappointing experience.
Place is nice and with a great view of the Bay Bridge. When friends from out of town ask where to eat with view, this is on my list. Food was great. I had the Wild Salmon and it was very tasty. Good for special occasions, dates or just a hangout spot for friends.
Palomino is usually a solid place to go and we've been there before on Christmas night. However this time, it's like they had their B-Team working. We were sat 30 min after our reservation time; we had 4 kids with us so you can imagine how that went. Our server was clearly overwhelmed. He was zigging and zagging, barely stopped to say more than 3 words to us. Thankfully we brought a bottle of wine because it took a very long time to get a drink. One of the drinks we ordered sat so long at the bar the ice melted and it became watered down. When he delivered it, our server (Christopher I think, he never told us) never apologized. 4 of us ordered steak and couldn't cut them because we didn't have steak knives; we had to flag down someone else to ask. I think the worst part is that gratuity was included and he didn't deserve the $50 in tip we HAD to give him. I would've asked to speak to a manager but who knows how long that would've taken. I'm very disappointed with our experience and will not be going back to Palomino on such a special night.
Horrible. Our family went for Christmas dinner and we all were incredibly disappointed. The food which ranged in prices from $13 for an appetizer to $37 per entree was disgusting. They had a limited selection for Holiday which was fine however the food was no better than going to a chain like Dennys where you'd expect processed mediocre food. Obviously the potatoes and vegetables had been cooked ahead, left in a steam tray under a heat lamp because there were overcooked dry and tasteless. The pasta cheese sauce had separated into pools of butter. The server was really sweet and bent over backwards to do anything she could for us as did the manager on duty. We really didn't wan more bad food so accepted the discount offered to us. Unfortunately Palomino has become another tourist trap on the Waterfront. Years ago people "dressed" to go there and especially during the holidays. Now everyone was in jeans and sweat clothes. It's really gone way way downhill. So sorry we spent what we did there never again
Went on Christmas Day for 12:30 brunch and was hoping to see more egg related options..However, the dishes we selected were all well prepared and we enjoyed the salmon w/mashed, the scallops w/ risotto and the bruschetta and onion rings. Service was god and very friendly especially considering they were working on Christmas Day. An added value here--parking available!!!
Ol' Reliable, you can always count on Palomino for a solid meal and solid, attentive service. The menu has a lot of usual suspects, well executed. Nothing particularly imaginative, but they can make a steak to order and the waitstaff is knowledgeable and accommodating if you have particular dietary needs.
I'm not sure what was worse. We waited over an hour for our food. We didn't even get a bread basket and asked for it 45 minutes into us sitting. We also had to ask for water. Not once did we get checked on. Our food came out after waiting over an hour and that's when they decide to tell us they were out of soup. The last thing that happened was they dropped a salad on my coworker. Not sure what was going on, but they were definitely having an OFF day!
As we knew this was a chain, we were very pleasantly surprised! They had a pretty great selection of gluten free items, and the menu was pretty expansive. We had their GF pizza, thin crust and man alive, have I been dreaming about it, since. I like this place as it's easy to get into, affordable, and the menu is pretty varied. We'll be back!
The main issue we had was the reception desk - terribly unprofessional. When we arrived, we waited behind another group for about 5 minutes, before someone came to help. That person handed menus to a waitress that was taking care of the party ahead of us, then walked away, leaving us still waiting. Another 5-10 minutes goes by. Another person walks by the desk and says "I'll be with you in just a minute," then continues by us, into the bathroom. Was it that urgent? At that point we walked over to the nearest waiter we could fine, asked for menus, and sat ourselves outside. The restaurant apparently listed us as "no shows" according to Open Table -- but you can't "show" if the reception desk is unmanned.
The rest of the evening eating outdoors under the heaters was quite nice.
The stunning view of the Bay Bridge and the Chihuly-esque chandeliers give the Palomino a modern urban vibe. After sunset the bridge puts on a light show.
The high quality of ingredients made our entree' salads delicious! My husband was hoping for more crab in his louie. I was disappointed to find less than 1/4 tsp of quinoa and only 2 thin slices of kalamata olive in my Grilled Prawn Quinoa salad. However the prawns were grilled spot-on, and so flavorful!
Service was very slow to start, our drinks were flat. Took almost 10 minutes to get replacement drinks - would've expected to have them taken off the bill for an experience like this, but nothing.
Bad service aside, the food is TERRIBLE. Overcooked everything, portions that don't make sense, chewy and rubbery prawns that tasted like they were under a heat lamp for a few hours.
