Palomino - San Francisco
***Please note the patio and lounge are all open seating after 3 pm. Reservations are for the dining room only.
Great ambience for a family reunion.
Used to be much better.
I didn’t realize that reservations were not for happy hour. We had a group of 10+. The hostess told us we’d have to sit at the table and wait for a happy hour spot to open up. In the meantime we could go get our drinks at the bar and bring them back to the table. Our group decided to order food and I ordered a bottle of wine. We ended up moving to a better and bigger table in the dining area. It all worked out but the food was disappointing and most complained that the happy drinks were watered down. I’m so glad I ordered a bottle of wine. Palomino thinks they are a high end restaurant but they need a reality check. We’ll never go there again with a large group. Also teach your hosts some manners!
Lunch at Palomino's was great. The food was delicious, the staff was very courteous and the view was outstanding. Definitely will return.
we were very pleased with our lunch. a really expansive restaurant looking out to the bay. a bit further down from the embarcadero but a nice walk. nice brick building. very pleased!
I'd wanted to eat here for over a decade - not sure if there was an owner or chef change or something, but it was not as nice as I'd expected. Great location, and the food was fine, but not extraordinary. Service a bit slow. I'd definitely go back for a drink if I was in the area, but not another special trip.
The food served was at room temperature and not hot.
Palomino has it all. Fun drinks, scrumptious food with generous portions and fabulous views of The Embarcadero and Bay Bridge. Always a solid choice in San Francisco!
While the food was good, the service was the kitchen, not the serverzdx, was poor. There were three occupied tables, at least 6 dirty tables, yet the order took 35 minutes to reach our table.
Food was quite disappointing. I had the chicken, which was incredibly dry and under seasoned. And despite saying it was gluten free they still had to make modifications to the potatoes, which they didn’t tell me until after the food was brought out, even though I told them about my allergy before ordering. Caramelized cauliflower wasn’t very caramelized and had a weird combo with sweet mascarpone cheese. Crime Brûlée was the only thing good, but that’s hard to mess up.
While this is not a top tier restaurant, we did enjoy ourselves. The service was friendly and even sweet. My husband had Rigatoni Bolognese and did not care for it, and I had the Grilled Scallops with a creamy risotto and did. The ambience could easily be enhanced by a single large floral arrangement - something to give the room a little color above the dark brown leather banquettes. Bar area is extremely loud, but in the restaurant conversation was easy. All in all, the food, service and ambience are commensurate with the prices charged.
Me and my gal pal came in for lunch on Saturday specifically for Restaurant Week. I notated “Restaurant Week” on my Opentable reservation. At first they refused to provide the Restaurant Week menu saying it wasn’t available on the weekend. We protested saying there was absolutely no disclosure of this. After checking with their manager who confirmed my reservation specifically stated this, they reluctantly agreed to give us the menus for Restaurant Week. They had to get an ok with the manager. When we got our menus, we realized there was little to no savings from the regular lunch menu! In fact, my friend “lost” money on her lunch selection! The table service was great as there were very few patrons in the restaurant. To the point it was too much attentiveness! We had a hard time holding a conversation without being interrupted by a server (or two!). The view of the waterfront is fantastic as expected. All in all just a so-so experience.
The food was great as usual. What was outstanding was the service. Our servers cheerfully met all our requests. The timing of the meal was perfect. It was a birthday lunch and they made the meal a real special occasion
I have been going there, for food & view, fun place. Since they opened long time ago.
In addition to having good food, excellent service, and great atmosphere, the bonus ingredient is the super convenient parking located right under the restaurant. The restaurant will validate your parking for a couple of hours. That's a big bonus in San Francisco. We had a group of six, and asked for table #60 which was away from the bar and most of the noise. Very easy to carry on conversations. Very Nice.
We came here on a Saturday night at 7PM, so dinner time, and we didn't get out of here until 10PM...not because we were taking our time, but because the food took a very long time to come out. Our server was great and you could tell she was trying her best, but the bar took roughly 30 minutes to get our drinks (it was quicker to walk over and order our drinks ourselves) and the food took over an hour and didn't taste great. You could see that they only had two people for the entire restaurant making food. I think management needs to seriously consider adding some new chefs/bartenders.
After attending the 2019 San Francisco Women’s March, my friends and I ate a wonderful dinner. The food was great and the service was outstanding!
We booked dinner for Saturday night as we had previously enjoyed brunch in the restaurant on a previous visit. We arrived at 8:45pm after calling to say we were running late. There were 2-3 other tables but the restaurant was quiet. The service was awful. So slow. It took forever to get our first drink order then later the appetizers came out for half the table. 5-10 mins passed then the other appetizers came. We asked for a wine list and after 10 mins asked again. It took another 5 minutes before it came and then another 10 mins before Someone came back to take the order. My dinner was wrong (the server said he had entered it incorrectly). By this time everyone was eating except me. The server came over and asked if I wanted s salad while I wait. I took the salad but after 10 mins no dinner had arrived. I cancelled the order as I refuse to eat alone when everyone else had finished. It was very embarrassing to recommend somewhere that proved to be so awful. Very disappointing!!
Braised Short Ribs could have used more time in the oven. A bit on the tough side. Didn't say anything as we were pressed for time and didn't want to wait for something else.
Fun place for dinner before performance
Always a great value in a City full of overpriced restaurants. Atmosphere is top notch.
This is a family-friendly spot for NYE celebrations.
Like the view to the Bay Bridge, service was great. Is not cheap but not super expensive, for a special occasion. $250 USD dinner for 2 with couple of drinks.
Too loud, too casual. More bright cafeteria than restaurant and that was very disappointing on New Year’s Eve.. food was not very exciting either so the whole experience turned us down. Not a cozy restaurant with a culinary focus.
service was sub-par, initial drink order too too long, food came out immediately after ordering then the check came before plates were cleared or dessert offered. we had to ask about dessert then a new check came before dessert was served.
For NYE we had great food and service!
Good cocktails and tasty food. We were a bit disappointed to have all our food come out at once when we had specifically asked to start with certain items and then move on to others, and we had to wait a long time for the check, but things are always reliable, though not top-notch elegant here.
Happy New Year dinner ❤😍😋kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkmmmmmmmm
The hostess was so incredibly rude. When we got to the restaurant, the didn’t have our reservation, and she told us she could seat us but we’d have to leave by a certain time. She didn’t care at all that I showed her my reservation on Open Table and the phone history of the restaurant, to show they’d called and spoke with me that afternoon to confirm the reservation. She didn’t apologize, smile, or even look up. She just said, “ I can’t give your points because you’re reservation isn’t here,” and, “I don’t understand the problem - I seated you.” From the beginning, no smile, no eye-contact, no apology, and no care as to why this happened and the fact that it could happen to other people.
We made a reservation for Sunday night, not even knowing about their $25 prix fixe menu which included choice of 3 appetizers, at least 10 entrees and dessert. Even with a bottle of wine, our bill without tax came to $81. A definite bargain in today's market. And the food was great.
Lovely setting with nice views of Bay Bridge. We enjoyed a very nice 3 course fixed price meal...we all enjoyed the food very much. Very nice service.
The server was very friendly and the food was really good.
We were in need of a late Saturday dinner and Palomino took good care of us.
I last dined at Palomino in 2008. It was a fairly good restaurant. 14 years later (last Saturday) my wife and I had made dinner reservations on a Saturday evening. When we arrived there was no one to check us "In" or seat us. They eventually showed up after a 10 minute wait. Service was slow and disengaged. It took 45 to 50 minutes from the time we ordered until we were served. Food was fair to poor. Wine was extremely cheap and extremely over-priced. We will not patronize Palomino again.
A good place to take out of town guest for the view of the bay and the laid back feeling the bay area gives you. It’s away from the hustle and hurry of sf.
We were visiting San Francisco for a short overnight trip to enjoy the city energy at Christmas. We chose to eat at Palomino because they had several options on their well-priced happy hour menu that were wholly vegetable based or nearly vegetarian. We enjoyed the cream of mushroom soup, a margherita pizza, carmelized cauliflower, brussels sprouts with vanilla butter and pancetta, a kale salad with pumpkin seeds, quinoa and raisins, and their version of "fish and chips" with artichoke tartar sauce. We enjoyed many items on our first visit on Friday, so much so that we came back on Saturday so we could try more of the menu items! Victor, our server both days, was spot on, he checked on us several times, took our order right away, let us try a sip or two to determine if we'd like a particular beer or wine and took really good care of us and other table in his section. In fact - all of the staff seemed really "with-it" and were handling the good sized crowd deftly. We will be back for sure and thank you for offering diverse menu items with plenty for us to choose from.
We decided to take the whole family (10 - 13 years and older) to lunch prior to a 4:30 performance of Cirque du Soleil. It was a good choice. Palomino has always been one of our favorites. It didn’t disappoint, except for the service. The menus is varied enough to satisfy a variety of tastes. They were not very busy (1:30 reservation), so there was no excuse for the inconsistent service.
Perhaps, the staff was understaffed for Christmas. This place felt more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. Also, half of the options were sold out by the time our table ordered. Need to return on a regular day to better gauge the food and place.
Made reservations for Christmas Dinner and once we arrived found out it was a limited menu. Made our selection from the menu and was informed they were out of both items we requested. It was only 5:45 pm at this time and they were open until 8 pm. We then ordered a different item and the food was very good. As we were leaving I noticed on the counter waiting to be picked up by the waiter was the lamb shank that I was told they no longer had. At that point I asked the manager what was going on? His response was, the chef had prepared more and they were now available. I then told him that we should have told this because we would have waited for them. Unfortunately I got the feeling he could care less.
We have been to Palomino's in San Francisco a number of times. I was meeting 2 others for Christmas Dinner. They had been seated for 30 minutes when I arrived. They had menus, but no one had returned to take their orders. I sat there for another 15 minutes and no one came to take our orders. We saw others seated adjacent to us that had appetizers while we were still waiting to order. I finally caught the attention of another waiter who then got our waiter who promptly took our orders. We were seated in the bar near the door to the outdoor patio. Although there were diners seated outdoors it was in the 40's. People kept coming in and out and leaving the door open requiring us to sit in our coats. It was frigid. I kept getting up to close the door. After we had waited another 30 minutes and seen diners seated after us eating and completing their entrees, I again was finally able to get another waiter to see what was taking so long for our food to arrive. Management came by to apologize as our food was served. I had the fillet mignon with fried onion rings and mashed cauliflower. The entrees were delicious and cooked to perfection. We also had dessert the donuts and the tiramisu. Both were great choices. We got dessert a lot quicker than we got our entrees. The delay in taking our orders, the extraordinary wait for our meals and no offer of any compensation for these delays (i.e. a free drink/dessert) resulted in my lower score. I must say this entire experience is totally contrary to our previous experiences.
