Palomino - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations for New Year’s. They had a special holiday menu which was delicious. Three of us ordered fillet which was cooked to perfection and one of us ordered lamb. We all raved about our dinner. We had a gluten free person in our party and they were very accommodating to this dietary need. Service was excellent as always and I would highly recommend the Palamino!
Went on New Year’s Eve. Didn’t realise (there was no notice in their website) they had a “special NYE menu”. It was just a limited version of their regular menu. Would have preferred the full menu and/true specials for the evening. Our waitress was top notch.
Location and ambiance - amazing. Hostess and servers very friendly and fun even though they were very busy. Limited menu because it was New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, neither of us enjoyed our food. The filet was very "fatty" for what is typically a lean cut of beef. The crab-artichoke dip was good but didn't seem to contain much or any crab? With only 6 entrees to choose from, we also ordered a baked rotini pasta dish with cheeses but it was oily and the pasta was swimming in the sauce from the melted cheese. We do not live in Indy. We dined at Palomino a couple of years ago and I remember a better experience. Maybe because it was New Year's Eve??? But if you are in the business of fine dining that shouldn't matter. We enjoyed the evening but extremely disappointed in the food.
It was NYE and we chose Palomino given it's more diverse menu vs a steakhouse as one of our guests doesn't eat steak. We were not informed until arrival that it was a limited NYE menu which provided very few options with no substitutions. Our server was wonderful and they did make an exception on one of our side items; however, this meant we weren't able to order what we had intended to order when we made a reservation. As always, the chop chop salad and portobello mushroom soup were delicious. My prime rib was good but nothing spectacular.
When we arrived we were one of the first tables to be seated. They sat us next to the door which was very cold. Our waiter noticed us but did not greet us for 20 minutes. Service was terrible. Before the meal was served I had to get up and get water for our table because they weren’t waiting on us. This was our first time to this establishment and will be our last. There are far to many nice places to eat in downtown Indianapolis to wate your time with this one.👎
This is one of my favorite restaurants so it’s hard for me to write this. The server’s ability to speak English made it difficult to converse. I ordered the salt encrusted prime rib as usual. It was blue rare instead of medium rare as I ordered. The potato’s were so raw they were not edible. The wine was amazing and so was the dessert. i felt the food/service was no where near the value that they charge for it.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Palomino complained that we did not show up, when in fact we did, and on a very slow Friday night - not sure how they missed noting we attended. Most of the staff was standing at the entrance when we entered, 5 min before the reservation time. The restaurant was literally empty. There was confusion in the hand off about who was seating us. Our server was, the only bright light in an otherwise dim dining experience. Our cocktail coffee starters were served in dirty coffee cups, without saucers. This was rectified after complaining. The rock music playing over the sound system was fit for the bar scene, not a dining experience, at this price. The starter balsamic vinaigrette for the salads was too acidic; one of the meals came with undisclosed ingredients (we requested that the menu be altered to reflect this - people with food allergies need to know what they are eating); the linguine was rubbery and hardened in parts; the asparagus was burnt/smoked - as if by a cigarette smoker; and one serving of the "mashed potatoes" was more of "mush/goop" potatoes. The organic chicken was very good as was the braised short rib. Overall, this was a poor experience. This was not our first visit to Palomino, but it will be our last.
Walked into an empty place and it took 10 minutes for them to seat us. The food was pricey for the quality received. Food left stomach aching from all the grease. Waitress was slow and could not answer what sides were offered. Overall experience and food was much less than desired. We will not be returning.
We choose the restaurant based on online menu for a varied menu for our party of 11. When we arrived we found a very limited Holiday menu and our server told us that the chef has said “no modifications would be made”. Slow service. The “bar printer broke” so it took 30 minutes to get our drinks and then they forgot 2 drinks. The food was very slow to come out and as they were bringing out 3 plates one of the cooks, carrying her open personal drink, collided with the server and spilled the cup contents onto the plates so they had to take them back. When I asked the server about it, she said “it was just water” and laughed. We had to send one kid pasta meal back as it was cold. The salmon and prime rib meals were very good.
Did not know we were restricted to a specific holiday menu until we got there. Very disappointing. Chose it after looking at menu online and wanted some pastas. Menu only offered a mac & cheese as pasta. Waiter said chef specified no substitutions. Had to send steak back two more times for correct temperature but server saw what we were getting each time and he helped us. Waiter was good but food wasn't so much. Blue cheese salad was not good . Scallops were awesome.
Was greatly surprised. Service was wonderful.... we had a great waiter. He made us feel we were important to him. Kept our glasses filled, brought us things as we needed them...recommended items to try... excellent server....
All food was good.. We tried several different appetizers to start and then had our meal... all was good except my steak was not done as much as I would have liked (medium well...was more like medium rare). Then we tried desserts....great....
Overall, totally enjoyed our evening... would recommend and will go back again!
Food is pretty good, but seems overpriced for the smaller portion sizes that the restaurant seems to have shifted to. Generally the smaller portions are fine for healthier eating habits but the prices need to reflect that as well. Service was okay, not the best we've had there. Had to ask for bread plate, servers had to ask who had which plate, which for a restaurant of this caliber I expected there to be a system in place (as in other places that can pull this off) for knowing "position #1" and placing meals accordingly.
This was a family dinner, with children from high school to grade school, which we enjoy doing as a special holiday occasion that exposes the kids to finer dining establishments and sophisticated eating experiences. The above comments may seem slightly picky but only because of the familiarity we have with having dined there many times before. But cost could certainly become an issue if we continue to have a disconnection between the price and the value of the food and service.
I am a long-time patron but have noticed a decline recently, particularly in service. I would still recommend it, but I am on the fence and may become a detractor if I have one more poor experience. Steak was really tough and service was just awful this last time. I'm hoping for a turnaround.
Always a staple when we are in town and where we go for our big group dinner. I made 2 separate reservations and they didn’t put us all together even though I asked when I confirmed. Our server wasn’t the greatest. She was slow. We weren’t really in a hurry, but she really ruined our experience when she messed up the check. We had a lot of newbies with us and I don’t think they were impressed. It’s still the best cream of mushroom soup and chicken Marsala ever so I will keep going. The food never disappoints!
had high hopes for this place but it took one hour to get our appetizers that came 15 minutes after our salad, then another 50 minutes for our food to arrive. The waiter came with our plates and said -oh be careful these are very hot-- but the steaks where cold. we complained but out of the 6 of us only one steak was credited back to us.
don't bother going here for a good or hot steak.
