Palomino - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
The food and ambiance were very good but the service was just fair. We were asked if we wanted some water up front - who doesn't when eating out? The water was so bad we had to buy a bottle of water to drink. Although the waiter said he'd be right with us to place our order he seemed to have gotten lost for awhile after taking our appetizer requests. I asked for a Chivas and water in a tall glass and got a Chivas on the rocks in a small glass. I decided to mix it with my drinking water before I had tasted the water - that was a mistake. When I wanted a second drink to go with my dinner I had to find a different server to place the order because ours wasn't anywhere around. I enjoyed the ambiance and the view of Fountain Square but I won't be going back. As is customary for me, I still lift the server slightly over a 20% tip.
Sorry to say, it was a miserable experience. I regret my choice of restaurants for a birthday dinner. We absolutely froze while attempting to dine. The restaurant was so cold that I was ordering "hot water". The first field green salad that was served contained slimy and old lettuce. The caeser salad that replaced it was slightly fresher. There was no acknowledgement of the birthday....why ask this of folks making reservations if there is nothing done to acknowledge the special occasion? It was an experience that was unforgettable and will not be repeated. Thanks for asking. It gave me an opportunity to let you know how embarrassed I was with my choice of restaurants that evening.
We were there a good half hour before we even had drinks. No one came for a while and when they did, it was a while before our drinks arrived. Then, there were only 5 entrees on the menu. I have been there before and I never remembered the menu being so limited? Finally, there was a draft, and even though we were in the middle of the restaurant away from the windows, it was freezing. So all that money to eat with our coats on? No thanks. We'll go somewhere else from now on.
Brought an out of town guest here for the view overlooking Fountain Square over the holidays. Bruschetta was composed of fresh ingredients and just the right amount of olive oil. Scampi was seasoned well as was the side salad. I added a squirt of lemon juice to my salad which brought out the flavor. We ordered crepe brûlée for dessert which was creamy and prepared with a few blueberries atop but it was served in a tiny round, not oval ramikin with no plate underneath-poor presentation but good taste. Great atmosphere.
Great food, but small portions for the cost. The service is usually good. Lunch combo was not enough food. Very small salad and a bowl of soup and I came back to the office hungry. Great location for our office though and we didn't even have to go outside in the cold. Restaurant is comfortable and a nice atmosphere.
Terrible experience on Christmas Eve. Have been taking the family there for years on 12/24. Each year has gotten progressively worse. This year, 45 minute wait for our reservation....told us they ran out of pressecco at 740 after waiting for it for 15 minutes. Food terrible. Watching the prep going on with we were waiting did not give me faith. Goofing around... and eating and laughing. And the tipping point, they gave you a 5 didgit code to use the bathroom. Never again. It has slipped so far off course in the past 3years. No one who was there will be back. I assure you. Very sad.
Make your reservations in advance and the restaurant will do their best to accomodate you. We had a corner window seat with a great view of the fountain, ice skating, and the Christmas tree and on top of it it snowed. The food, including filet mignon was excellent and the service was efficient and very friendly.
This place has an amazing view of Fountain Square which is especially nice during the holiday season while the Square is decorated and full of people ice skating and enjoying the holiday scene. The atmosphere is good, the food is great and the price isn't ridiculous although it is not inexpensive. The problem here is the service. From wait time for the table even with a reservation and then the wait time for drinks. Even with the assistance of the manager the overall experience was less than satisfactory.
We decided on Palomino's because of the view of Fountain Square and downtown Cincinnati but were pleasantly surprised with the great food. Everything was just so good. We had not been there in at least 10 years but we for sure will not wait that long to return.
I'm so sad to write this because I USED to have a wonderful time here. Over the past year the service has plummeted. The bartender was great and very helpful; she was slammed; no servers were helping her whatsoever. Instead they were noticeably rude to her. Her support (kitchen and servers) were awful. She asked for updates on our food that took 45 minutes (fries...) and two male servers snapped back at her in front of us. It was completely uncalled for. She was good; the servers/kitchen were awful. The view is great and the happy hour deals are good. Parking is convenient.
Special Sunday dinner downtown with adult children and grandkids. Good food and drinks. Kids menu small but adequate. Waitress very attentive to special request for hot tea change.
No room for dessert except child’s included sundae. Great place for “fine dining” and nice for special gathering. Scallops, lamb, pasta excellent!
Service was just fair,as the restaurant was not that crowded. Shrimp scampi not good. I expect this entree to be succulent with an ample amount of garlic, butter, and white wine sauce. What I got was a dry scoop of pasta side by side with 6-7 rather dry shrimp. Entrees ordered by others at the table seemed satisfactory. Have been going to Palomino for years. Not up to par this time.
Wait staff seemed stretched thin, with long wait times in between refills, getting the check, etc. Food was lukewarm to cold and the Four Cheese Pasta on the menu which I ordered had been changed from penne to rotini. This made for a disappointing texture and the pasta was hard far too hard. In addition, the portion size was smaller than usual and the price had been raised. Finally, the only pure chocolate dessert has been removed from the dessert menu. We ended up going to Graeter’s due to the lack of options. Overall, we expected a better experience from a restaurant that usually lives up to our expectations.
Must try the mushroom soup! Palomino's is known for this soup and it never disappoints. Would have given an outstanding review but for the order of brussels sprouts with porchetta and vanilla butter that was served to us without the porchetta. Very good in spite of the missing ingredient.
