Palomino - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
whenever there is a show in town we eat at Palomino's. I made the reservation 3 weeks ahead of time. Always request a window seat. We always sit in the same area. This time - there were two new people working hospitality. They informed me that NO one could reserve a window table. The girl who seated me wasn't very nice about it and placed us in an area by the bar. The waiter was fine - nothing to do with him. We ordered our food and waited 45 minutes. My friend ordered the rotisserie chicken. It wasn't done at all, she couldn't even eat it. When we told the waiter that it was still pink - he said "well that is rotisserie chicken" - Nope it isn't - it is supposed to be done! We were offered a free dessert, but we had to hurry and eat it cause it was now 7:45. We won't be back!
Great place to eat. Service was outstanding and very timely. When we arrived they asked how long we had and we gave them 1 hour. They did an amazing job of getting us our food and keeping us checked on and satisfied. Everyone was super friendly and created a nice environment for a date night or special occasion. I would recommend this to anyone looking to have a good meal and environment to talk and eat.
Bad night for Palomino. I went in as a single with a reservation. I opted for a table in the bar and it took 15 minutes to get a beer ordered. The only other thing I ordered was a salmon entree and it took over an hour.
They apologized and picked up my check, so they did what they could and what was right.
I generally have had good service and experiences there.
While we had our heart set on pizzas, the dough machine was broken, so, no pizza, as well as a couple of other "doughy" things. But -- fortunately we were not on a strict budget, and definitely enjoyed the scallops and the short rib entrees. We shared the brussels sprouts -- plenty to share, and very good with pancetta and vanilla butter -- MUCH better than with balsamic like some places do it. We went early, after a matinee, so it was pretty quiet, which we enjoyed, since we didn't feel like we had to vacate the table as soon as we were done eating.
Quick service but my soup was cold :( Great appetizers and a really large menu to choose from. I️ got the mushroom soup and the shrimp + quinoa salad. My reservation was later in the evening, so I️ assume that explains why the soup was colder than I️ would have liked I️t.
Highly disappointing. Our reservation was at 7:30 pm on a Saturday. Two of the items we tried to order were not available which was disappointing as it was early in the dinner service. The food was poorly executed. The shrimp entrees were overcooked and rubbery, the salmon portions were inconsistent, not cooked to the proper temperature, and over seasoned. Service was not timely considering the low number of patrons in the restaurant. Our server began our night with an attitude of indifference to our 7 top. She tried to make up for it later but it seemed disingenuous. On the positive side, we were comped a birthday dessert. Overall, our experience at this restaurant would not encourage us to return anytime in the future.
Excellent choices, delicious food, and great value using the 'First Seating' menu! The portobello mushroom soup and scallops entree were amazing! To top it off, I had a perfect cinnamon gelato. My only two pieces of constructive feedback: 1. We were put in an awkward seating arrangement for 7 with 3 adults in chairs and 4 adults in booth seating. This might have worked with kids, but not 50 year olds... 2. Even though our arrival was at 5:30 with 30 minutes remaining in the 'First Seating' time range, these choices were not offered to us. We had to ask for them.
I had chosen palomino for it menu and location near the center. We arrived early for our reservation. About 20 minutes due to lack of knowledge of area. Walked around the block once, because it is above a Macy's store and no signs outside that we're easily visible. Bar service was slow. Appetizers and soup we're better than ok, but over priced. 16.00 for crab and artichoke dip. Mushroom soup was great . We ordered the Ribeye with truffle potatoes and the pasta with vegetables. Start with the good. The Ribeye was very good. Not much seasoning, but cook correctly. Ok that's the good. The french fries at Smash Burger have more flavor than these potatoes, which came cold! Along with an onion string topping that was also cold! The pasta dish was dry and all you could taste was the bitter greens they had placed on top. It was returned, but without getting a chance to order something else. It was handled on the bill but labeled as bland.
Throughout the meal we felt rushed by food and thirsty for drinks. We were asked if we were on any time restraints, but we weren't. All this and done in 30-45 minutes. Food delivered minutes after each other. No time to enjoy the previous.
Nothing that I had hoped for in this meal for a couple out on the town without their kids, and celebrating a birthday.
We have a theatre group of 6 that had a dinner reservation at 545 pm. We told staff from the moment we arrived that we had Broadway series tickets at 730 pm so we have to be out by 715. I got there early at 5pm so went to the bar. There were only about 8 people in the bar at the time. I sat at a table and was ignored for 10 minutes so I went to the bar to order a drink and appetizer which were good. Upon seating at 545pm, we told our waiter we have theatre tickets so we have to be out by 715pm. We ordered drinks and gave him our food orders promptly, since we were on a timeline. The restaurant was not real busy at 545 pm, but it did get more crowded as time went on. We put our food order in around 605pm. We got our salads promptly. However at 655pm we still did not have entrees. We asked waiter what the problem was because we didn't have time to wait. He said he put oit order in 48 mins ago. We asked for manager. By 710pm we had no food so we had to leave. The manager profusely apologized and tried to make it right. They did not charge us for any food, and boxed up our meals to take with us. She said due to it being pizza week they had more people requesting pizzas than expected. Most of us had ordered pasta so I don't buy the excuse. I don't fault the waiter as much as the kitchen staff. Unfortunately we couldn't take our food into the theatre so it got cold at the concierge desk. Even though the manager was very apologetic and gracious I doubt we will be back anytime soon when we have theatre plans. Most other downtown Cincinnati restaurants are used to theatre groups, so they are usually on top of getting dinners out promptly. I don't know what happened that night. I do usually enjoy the food, and the cocktails are always delicious. However they need to fix the service problems.
I made a reservation for 8:15 pm on a Saturday night. Every server was running around like crazy. It took 10 minutes before a server greeted us and 25 minutes to get our drinks. The food was absolutely amazing, but I think the staff was short handed for the number of people still there to dine.
The view from our table was great. The food was good, except that the steak was overdone and potato side was underdone. Dessert was great! Our server Levi was very attentive and stop at our table frequently to make our needs were met and drinks were full. We would come to Palominos again.
Good service from our waitress and original seating hostess. My seafood salad was an interesting and eclectic mix of shrimp , crab and shredded tuna, avocado, deviled egg and lettuce. It was an adventuresome dish. My lemon drop Martini was okay, but with 1/2 price happy hour prices I can't complain. We felted faked out by the floor hostess who asked how our meals were , but answered her own question before we could respond. Overall we had fun though and will dine there again.
At one time, Palomino was a premiere restaurant in Cincinnati. No longer. It's food is ok but not memorable. It's above average prices do not reflect "just ok" food however. As a downtown restaurant in a great location with a nice view of Fountain Square, Palomino is still a nice place to visit. But, not often. It could use some serious improvement in food quality, number of servers and overall value.
I’ve been dining here for years, they went through a rough patch but they seem to be on the up and up! Steaks were perfectly cooked and the mushroom soup is to die for. But the best part of our meal was our waitress Bridgett. Talk about a personality! At this level of dining it’s sometimes hard to find waiters you can joke around with that just enhance your overall experience. Fabulous! She was there when we needed her and her recommendations were spot on. I’m definitely asking for her next time I come in.
The review would be different except for one thing. I mentioned in my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. They decorated the table and everyone mentioned happy birthday. All great. They brought a dessert with a candle. What a surprise. The bigger surprise- we were charged for the dessert. I get that we ate it, but I didn’t order it and wasn’t asked about the dessert and paying for it. Seemed a bit odd to do to us rather than for us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time and the food was quite good, view was awesome. Just disappointed at the dessert thrust upon the celebration.
We arrived at 5 pm for a 6:30 show at the Aronoff, with a reservation for three. Had two children (11 year olds, easy age) who ordered off of the kids menu, one adult with a glass of wine and a meal (chicken marsala) and a salad. I preface our meal selections, because they were easy orders, ordered promptly. Dinner came out at 6:15. We were real nervous about dinner at 5:55, asked about it, asked for dessert first, kids ate their sundaes for dinner and then scarfed down what they could as we raced out the door to the show. Literally running through the Aronoff, last ones seated in the whole place, because we ran the whole way there across the square in the rain. I am pretty laid back about my restaurant experiences but this was a bust big enough that we will not be back. I was trying to make a special night for the girls with me. It was not the servers fault. But she chose to serve us last with her tables because the kitchen was so behind and she had to choose someone right? Chose the smallest table, I would have done the same thing, tips and all, choose the smallest table to serve last if you can...people who sat after us, ordered after us, were given their food before us. They had big parties and people going to the show and not enough help in the kitchen apparently. A friend saw us rush in and texted me later that she had the same problem at this restaurant and no longer goes there before the show...Bummer, we like this place, but this is kind of the time we get to go.
