Palomino - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
Wait staff seemed stretched thin, with long wait times in between refills, getting the check, etc. Food was lukewarm to cold and the Four Cheese Pasta on the menu which I ordered had been changed from penne to rotini. This made for a disappointing texture and the pasta was hard far too hard. In addition, the portion size was smaller than usual and the price had been raised. Finally, the only pure chocolate dessert has been removed from the dessert menu. We ended up going to Graeter’s due to the lack of options. Overall, we expected a better experience from a restaurant that usually lives up to our expectations.
Must try the mushroom soup! Palomino's is known for this soup and it never disappoints. Would have given an outstanding review but for the order of brussels sprouts with porchetta and vanilla butter that was served to us without the porchetta. Very good in spite of the missing ingredient.
I have been a member of Opentable for years and have never done a review. This is my first because I feel compelled to warn those unweary customers. We ended up at Palomino because a flight to Cincinnati got delayed and we needed dinner near our hotel. Big mistake. We ordered the calamari appetizer, which never came, until a reminder was given, and then we got essentially the bottom of what looked like something out of a freezer bad - with no taste and crunchy crumbs. We ordered a ribeye, medium rare. It was not inexpensive - $48. The first time one who side was literally raw - like someone forgot to flip it. It came again -- same steak. Now nice and browned on the outside. One cut in -- raw again. The waiter was appalled. I asked for a new steak. 3rd time - again nice and brown. Inside, raw. Not just "rare" raw - like still moving raw. The manager had come earlier and said they'd take off the steak from the bill. But wasn't there when it came a 3rd time and we gave up and sent it back, so no meal for one of us.
The chicken marsala - $20 was literally a chicken breast split in 2, so only 1 half of a breast. I would NEVER go back to this restaurant nor would i recommend it to anyone. Save your money and aggravation. It's hard to screw up a steak 3 times.
While we had reservations but there was a slight wait so we went to the bar. The Happy Hour Bar menu is a great deal and from 4 to closing !!! Who knew. It was fantastic sitting over looking Fountain Square and the ice rink and Christmas Tree made for a perfect winter evening.
Got there 1/2hr early and check in right away for a 830 reservation, wasn’t seated until almost 845. requested a window table overlooking the square when I made the reservation and we were seated in the back near the kitchen on the end of the row. I may as well been sitting in the kitchen. There were two separate couples that got a window seat that walked up for reservation and where seated right away.
Food was ok at best. Caesar salad was wilted, hardly any dressing, and croutons were gross. And the whole meal was over priced in my opinion.
It was so loud the server could barely hear us.
I’ll never go back there again.
Overall the experience was mediocre, the food was underwhelming, food temperature on the cold side our waiter Austin was phenomenal ,the hostess was indifferent. Overall the service was slow, the view of fountain square all lit up for Christmas was nice. Price point adequate, would return if already downtown but not make special arrangements to go. Would have rated 3.5 stars but that wasn’t an option.
Waited 15 minutes at the bar to order a drink, never got waited on. When we finally did they were out of Budweiser and Michelob ultra. Waited 25 min past our reservation to be seated, but it was a busy night so we understood. Worst part... manager said we should get over the fact that they were out of beer. She said they had a 24k day on Friday so it was a good for them. We said what about your customers today? She said well if you are upset we don’t have your beer too bad! Really?!?! Wow...
We went to Palomino's before attending a show at the Aronoff. Our waiter asked about this, and was able to serve us in plenty of time to get to the show. The restaurant has a wonderful view of Fountain Square, so it was a quite festive atmosphere. I would suggest that you request a view of the square if you want to ensure a view of the Christmas tree. My husband got the pizza and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I ordered the filet and while it was still good, it was not cooked the way I had specified. Even though I ate it, the waiter removed it from our bill. Overall, I enjoyed the holiday atmosphere and the food. I would go back, perhaps on a night when we could have a more leisurely dinner.
Our server was wonderful, worked very hard.
Palomino was incredibly busy.
I had the short ribs for dinner, they were terrible. Not evenly cooked through. My husbands steak was great but 2 other people in the party did not like their steaks.
I was disappointed. I should have complained but they were just to busy.
Our service was excellent and the food was incredible. Our wait staff was very conscientious about our need to get to the Aronoff on time. Highly recommend. Our drinks never went to empty and everyone was extremely pleasant. They were very busy and we felt we received excellent service and did not feel rushed at all.
I guess with the Christmas Season upon us they want to cram as many people as they can in the restaurant. Taken to our table which was about 12" from the next able of 4. Was so noisy could not have a conversation across the table. After 12 minutes of this and yet to see a waiter we left. Can't imagine what it would have been like when the party for the table on the other side of us arrived. Extremely disappointed.
One of my favorite Cincinnati restaurants. The food and service is consistently superb, which is why I was surprised to not receive one of my appetizers this time!!! This was not the norm, however, and I still recommend this spot for foodies who love a classy ambiance.
Our family went to Palomino's on a Sunday early evening at Christmas when Fountain Square was lite up. It was a great relaxing evening and great views of the street and Fountain Square. We ordered off the 3/$25 menu which is a great option for early dining and if you are paying for 6 (like we were). Something on this menu that appealed to everyone. Service was great too.
Party of 8, almost 20 minutes from putting our first entrée down, to getting all 8 entrees on the table...server claimed innocence, blamed kitchen...we waited for all the meals, mine was cold by then...arrived 7:30pm, ordered 7:45pm...meals started to be delivered by 8:50pm...
This was our first date night out in over a month and it was fabulous! We had a reservation for 6:30 and we were at our table right away, no wait! Our service was outstanding! Our waitress was perhaps the most amazing ever...she took care of our every question and every need. Overall it was a great night out and we can't wait to get back!
Disappointing experience. The porkchop was undercooked (dark red), the pasta was bland and also undercooked (although the server said it was al dente), and the service was rushed. The manager did remove the porkchop from the bill, but seemed unconcerned. There are much nicer restaurants to visit it downtown Cincinnati.
Our server Bridget made our night. She allowed us to move from a good table to a great tab
E near the window over looking Fountian Dquare. She recommended great options.. I chose the scallops on her recommendation and they were fabulous! Palomino is not normally our first choice but it will be after this great evening!
Went to Palomino for Thanksgiving dinner. We were disappointed in the food. We have been there before for Thanksgiving dinner and it was really good. But this year it was just OK. My daughter ordered a salad and the adult mac and cheese. Both came out at the same time (after waiting a fair amount of time). I ordered the turkey dinner, best part about it was the brussel sprouts. Turkey came with a ton of dark meat that was fatty. Mashed potatoes were cold. They gave me about a tablespoon of stuffing. We will go to Capital Grill or Seasons 52 for Thanksgiving dinner next year.
Possibly the worst service ever...more than 30 minutes to get a drink. Ordered food never arrived...but was on bill :( Server couldn't figure out how to split the bill - three tries later and still wrong. Manager finally comped us drinks but well after the evening spoiled. But food was good.
The service was great. Our waitress was wonderful. But the own falls was no salad with meals (extra Cost) not enough steak sauce selection ( I like Heinz 57 ) didn't have, ask for table by window got the second row by window, no regular butter for bread, our salad was dry( not enough salad dressing) but food was great, drinks was good, kept our water glass full.
This was our third time here. We visit every year on our anniversary and was extremely disappointed. The past two times were excellent, but I can’t say the same for this time. The server was not very attentive and didn’t seem focused. We put in our order and then 25 minutes later she came back to recap what we had ordered as if she had forgot to put it in. We wait a long time for our food and both the crab artichoke dip and my steak was over cooked. The server seem focused on apologizing for tables that were dirty around our table instead of focusing on getting our experience right. Very disappointed in what is usually a great experience.
Previous experiences over the years have been very good. Hadn’t returned for a couple of years and things have really slipped. Our advance table location request was not only ignored but we were told it was a table for 4, only to be filled by another couple (that’s 2) as we watched. It took about a half hour to have our wine order delivered and the lukewarm Lobster Bisque that we ordered only appeared after we mentioned to the server that we hoped that the delay in receiving the first course would not cause the soup and the entree to be delivered together. As to one of the entrees...it was Pappardelle with a short rib ragu. The meat as inedible, as the server saw a pile of grizzle and fatty meat set on the side of my plate. I was offered an alternate entree but declined. The manager listened to our tale of woe and took the entree charge off our bill with her apologies. We left the restaurant, drove home and I had a peanut butter sandwich. What a disappointing night.
