Palm Sugar Asian Grills & Dessert Bar Ratings and Reviews
pad thai had no depth of flavors, not good at all
duck curry. they only do their version of a panang curry
no red or green at all.
must say .... the duck meat was cut nice and thick
the most TENDER duck in town. we get duck out, often.
i will be thinking about that duck. go for it
FLASH FRIED BOK CHOY WAS AMAZING, AS WERE THE SOUPS AND SAUTED SHRIMP DISHES.
THE STEAMED SHRIMP DUMPLINGS WERE DULL BASICALLY THEY ARE THE SAME AS THE ONES YOU BUY AT WHOLE FOODS OR ANY SUSHI TAKE OUT PLACE TO MICROWAVE AT HOME! THE SHRIMP LETTUCE WRAPS RATHER DREARY. THEY ARE BLAND DESPITE THE THREE NICE LITTLE SAUCE DISHES -MAINLY BECAUSE THE SHRIMP WERE JUST SPLIT IN HALF PRECOOKED SHRIMP NO FLAVOR, NOT GRILLED, BUT IN ALL FAIRNESS THEY WERE ON THE HAPPY HOUR MENU AND VERY INEXPENSIVE.
THE CURRY CHICKEN WAS DELICIOUS AND SO WAS THE STICKY RICE SERVED IN IT'S OWN LITTLE WICKER BASKET. PLENTY OF GOOD DISHES TRICK IS TO GO FOR THE SPICIER ONES WHICH ARE NOT SPICY JUST MORE FLAVORFUL!
(APOLOGIES FOR ALL CAPS. KEYBOARD JAMMED(
This restaurant seems to struggle with large parties, the sushi bar in particular. The food came out at different times and initially people waited for the people that ordered sushi to be served. The staff assured us the sushi was almost done multiple times. After waiting 10 min, most people elected to eat their now cold meals, while two friends continued to wait on the sushi. After waiting another 20 minutes, we decided to cancel the sushi order. We told the staff multiple times to cancel the order while they insisted the platter was on its way out. Eventually, 10 min later, they decided to serve the platter complimentary....and the sushi wasn't even good! The rest of the food tasted okay, but was cold, unfortunately. Im still not sure why our food took so long, because the restaurant was empty!
We tried Palm Sugar for the first time and wanted a place outside the typical cityplace scene. We enjoyed the variety on the happy hour menu which gave us the chance to try a variety of items. Their Crispy Bok Choy was fabulous. Pad Thai was excellent too. We will be back and gave them a rave review on tripadvisor as well.
We ended up here because there was a problem with our original reservation at another restaurant. Given that we were a party of 6 on a Saturday night we were fortunate that Palm Sugar could accommodate us. Pleasantly surprised by the very good quality of Thai food and prompt service. Each of us ordered a different item and everyone was very pleased by their choice.
We ordered hot tea, after 10 minutes, no tea. Then a teapot arrived with luke warm tea - not a great start. Another 10 minutes - then hot tea! The food arrived at different times for each of us, it seemed like it was their 1st night open - very amateur. When we finally got the food, we were happy with our dishes. I wouldn't go back, nor recommend this restaurant.
This was my first time here and I will be back. I usually hate restaurants on clematis because they usually are so bland, but this restaurant had flavor and was true to their food. The pho was great and it is one of the only places I know in the area that serve takoyaki. Thank god I found a new place to frequent.
Also for the quality you get I can't understand how the prices are so reasonable!!!!
The food was awful almost inedible, which was too bad because the location was great and the service was really good. The people were very nice and accommodating, but again we couldn't eat our food. The chicken looked like pork and the sticky rice was burnt. Garlic fries were the one decent thing.
Ugh cannot believe they are still in business with all the better places to eat. We ate there twice and only the second time because they gave us a $50 gift card for the disaster the first time. Seco d time was no better . They are off our places to choose from.
There is never any one in there and none of my friends ever go there. That should have been reason enough not to go but I went anyway. The food is sub par at best. We had apps and drinks and left to have dinner elsewhere. The pork buns r more like soft tacos - not the type you get as traditional dim sum. The spring rolls with shrimp had so little shrimp it was mostly a veggie roll. The Mai Tais however r amazing. I won't repeat unless it's for cocktails and edamame at happy hour.
