Palm Court at the Carltun Ratings and Reviews
An unusually quiet night at this very popular restaurant. We were the ONLY table taken in this large old-world restaurant. Of course, in a restaurant of this caliber, with no one else there, the service was impeccable. Food preparation, plating and taste were all perfect. A teeny berry napoleon for dessert, but a lovely banana split or plate of ice cream for same price. A wonderful time for a multi-celebration evening.
The only issue my Fiancé and I had during our Special Night Out On Valentines Day, was our seating location. We were seated right in the middle of the Red Room, at the location of the opening as you enter the large White Color room.
All night long we had people walking by us on both sides, waiters carrying food to serve people as they walked on both sides of our table and we watched the Table Cleaners (Bus Boy) walk by us on both sides of our table all night long. Basically, we felt as if we were seated in the Archway of the 2 rooms and everyone walked by us. Not an intimate setting we must say for an Important Valentine Day night.
At one point we almost left, but we remember having Dinner at Palm Court several other times and Really Enjoyed our Food, Service, waiters were great and the Restaurant is very Elegant and very well run. So we stayed, enjoyed the night as much as possible and really enjoyed our Food.
Also, we were alittle disappointed that the Music ended at 10:30pm. As by that point in time, we only had been served our Appetizers and Wine since the Kitchen seemed to be backed up with Food Preparation, Food Volume required to be served and management should have been concerned with keeping the Special Nights Ambiance Going and Music should have been playing until pretty much everyone is done eating.
I hope my comments and concerns are taken as truthful words, since your Food and Service was outstanding, but need to understand the Ambiance issue on such an important night. Thank you for your time reading my comment and hope to hear from management at there next earliest convenience.
We went for valentines night dinner. They had a custom menu for the night which was okay. Would have preferred a basic salad option instead of the two presented (my husband ate both salads). Desert plate was cute and they had live music which allowed for some nice slow dancing.
Our requested round table was right on top of musicians so we took a rectangle table at the other side of the restaurant. There was a party going on in the adjacent room. The door between both rooms kept getting opened and would remain opened, making the dinning room extremely loud (on top of the music playing in the room). Twice we got up from our table to close the door. Another table closed the door as well. Other patrons asked the waiters to close the door too. Hostesses should have been more on top of that so it wasn’t up to the customers to do so. Waiter was not very attentive. Missing one of our appetizers. Prime rib special looked as if it was microwaved and the baked potatoes were cold. The decor and holiday decorations are beautiful. But for the amount of money you spend at The Carlton we would expect much better food and service. Very disappointed in our evening.
The Palm Court at the Carltun is my "go to" restaurant when I'm entertaining friends. The decor is exceptionally lovely, the menu is wonderfully curated, the service is superb, and the food ~ outstanding! Many thanks to all who make my evenings there so delightful!
My sole constructive comment: due to the manner of the restaurant's acoustical architecture, the noise levels seen to be most always rather high. Having a pianist accompanied by a crooner increases the level of noise by an order of magnitude. The noise levels tend to discouragingly detract from the dining experience and make meaningful conversation at the tables a challenge.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The restaurant was not busy and it took 25 minutes for the waiter to greet us. The food was okay but entire night ruined as any time we needed our waiter it took way too long as all of them were constantly huddled by the bar.
I pulled up to what's referred to as one of Long Island premiere dining facilities, the Palm Court. I had been looking forward to dining at this restaurant since I read about it in my research. The parking attendant pointed me across the lot, but did not park my car. I parked and got enthralled by the magical look of the place. When I entered the restaurant, one woman sat behind the desk and the other stood up. I gave my name and reservation time; the woman who sat behind the desk gave me an unwelcomed stare, while the more polite young maitre D pointed me to the dining room. I ignored the two uncongracious treatments and enveloped myself in the warm ambiance, live music and courtyard view. My server, Jose over-compensated for the marginal treatment earlier with his warm smile, and attentiveness, I had soon forgotten the ungracious attitude I experienced previously. I listened to Jose as he expertly disclosed the specials of the day. Most items received a pass because I'm a pescatarian. Needless to say, the black Sea bass with mashed potato, scallops, and asparagus was delicious. If you like spicy foods, this is a perfect score. Appetizer was good, crab meat with avocado, cucumber and tomato. It's cold so, if a warm appetizer is your goal try the crab cake or soup. Creme brulee was good, maybe I will have chocolate instead if I go back a second time. I left feeling great after a long day working at home.
Thanks to Jose, and the other servers, the guitarist, and the calming atmosphere, I left feeling quite content despite dining by myself. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience!
Definitely underwhelmed. Hadn't been here in a few years and found it to be much less special than remembered. Waiter was just okay, not what you'd expect from a place that markets itself as elegant. Table we sat at was a small round folding table with legs making it uncomfortable to stretch our own legs.
In all, a little disappointed. Showing signs of age and slippage.
We had 5:15 reservations and requested vegetarian options. When we arrived, we were the only patrons in the restaurant. That remained the case for well over a half hour. Nevertheless, no one came to our table to take a drink order for a half hour. The hostess in the meantime came to our table to tell us that servers did not start til 5pm. (So??). In any event, after we had received menus and identified the vegetarian options, the hostess returned with a photocopy of the menu with the vegetarian options highlighted, assuring us that she was well aware that we are vegetarian. Moments later, he served arrived and proceeded to share the specials, all of which were meat-centered, including a "Hunter's Special" which I interrupted him to ask him to stop. He did so, with no apology or acknowledgement of the situation. Bizarre. The meal was pricy and okay.
The food was excellent and Aaron was our server again and he is Fantastic! This is our "go-to" special place and it never disappoints! We have been coming here for years and we love it! They always make our special occasions more special and our everyday extraordinary !
Enjoyable evening at the Carlton with my husband for Dinner. We have dined here for Dinner, brunch & I have attended events in the Wine Cellar. Saturday night features live music by Johnny Avino & is an added plus to the Dinner. We enjoyed the 3 course Price Fixed Dinner with a nice bottle of Cabernet. Service, Food Preparation & Entrees were Delicious.
