Palio - Ann Arbor
Ask about our Birthday Meal Deal!
Palio del Sole (Palio rooftop) is walk-in only!
The food was ok. Our order was incorrect, so the entire table finished their meals before we received our food. Not very attentive service. The rooftop patio is great in nice weather. I would recommend coming here for simple appetizers and drinks...not for a nice meal. There is much better Italian food, for better prices, elsewhere.
I only gave it a lower than great rating because the menu options are so limited for people who cannot eat dairy.
Great dinner! Service was excellent.
The kitchen needs additional help...wait time for food over40 mins when only half full restaurant
Pasta was one big lump surrounded by some tasty shrimp
Wait staff needs to learn menu and not ask us number on the wine bottle or specific name of the pasta
It was a weekday so maybe better on weekends...
good location and setting
Absolutely fantastic. The food was fantastic and the service even more so.
I made a reservation for the upstairs open top portion of the restaurant. Palio did not have the reservation, and told me that you could not reserve in that part. So, we ended up eating in the cool, air conditioned downstairs instead of the fresh air part on the roof. OpenTable should get together with Palio to straighten this mess out.
I’ve been many times and always enjoyed it, Monday was loud and obnoxious. I made a reservation stating it was my birthday, hoping for a better location/ attention to detail but nothing. The server was clearly busy but would disappear for long periods. We wanted to order a bottle and some drinks but he rushed away after we ordered the bottle, never giving us the opportunity to order drinks or appetizers. Waited about 40 minutes after we ordered our food and it came out cold.... overall just upset that they couldn’t make my birthday dinner special.
While I can appreciate individually prepared entrees, a fifty minute wait for pasta and shrimp was not what I expected when dining at an Open Table referenced restaurant. The server was very apologetic, but it was not a 5 Star experience.
I am writing to let you know about my unsatisfactory dining experience at Palio's last week. I have been dining at Palio's for many years and would consider myself to be a regular customer. I like Palio's so much, that I even had my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner there.
Last Monday was the worst dining experience I have ever had at Palio's.
It took forever to be served our main course. When the main courses finally arrived my wife had to send her meal back because it was cold and the pasta was stuck together in a big blob. Of course, by the time her replacement arrived everyone else had finished their meal.
The person serving the meal dropped one of the plates containing a main course (accidents happen and we were very sympathetic). Instead of waiting for a remake, one of the couples decided to split a main course. The main course they split was also cold and a disappointment.
We spoke with the manager who apologized. She stating that they were under staffed because they did not realized that there was a pipe fitter convention in Ann Arbor and Mondays are usually slow. I did not believe her, because that convention is in Ann Arbor the same time every year. Also, the special function room at Palio's was reserved for a large group of pipe fitters.
The manager did offer us a free desert, but we declined because we were running late by then and thought it would take to long to be served. A couple of free meals or bottle bottle of wine might have been nice?
Had a good friend dine at Palio's later that week and he told me the service was the worst he had ever experienced. Palio's did not charge him for his dinner. By the way, the pipe fitters convention was no longer taking place.
Wanted to share my experience and let you know how disappointed everyone in my party was over our evening at Palio's. This is not the quality of food or level of service I have grown custom to receiving at Palio's.
Great food, but service was slow and spotty. Didn't receive the bottle of wine (very overpriced bottle, I might add!) until our food was served, which was disappointing. We would've liked it shortly after ordering the bottle. Our server rarely came and checked on us, and I did not receive a small dessert that you would normally get when going out on a birthday.
The pizza was lousy. We would have been better off getting frozen pizza and microwaving it in the hotel room.
Our order was delayed and it was an hour after our appetizers before our entrees arrived. However, the waitress kept us updated and apologized numerous times and refilled bread and water frequently.
The service was excellent and the food and alcohol was superb and delicious. I look forward to dining there again.
Food took over 90 minutes to be delivered. Manage comped us a small bottle of wine. 2 nd time in a row that I sat outside upstairs and the timing of food was terrible. Not sure I will do it again
Just ok. Very small portions for apps and server was a bit green in what was and was not available.
We’ve been here several times before, and have always had good service and food. Tonight was completely different. Our waitress did seem stretched thin, so I would not completely fault her. That being said, we often went for long stretches waiting for drink refills. In addition, our food took a really long time to arrive. When it did, my food was cool. My husband’s food was steaming hot, so clearly mine had been sitting somewhere for a while waiting for his to be ready. I sent my food back, and waiting another 10 minutes for it to be brought back. My husband’s meal barely had any sauce, the noodles were all clumped together, and the presentation looked like it was assembled by a five year old. Nevertheless, he was starving at this point, so he ate it. He said it was not very good. He was finished with his meal by the time I received mine. Mine was fine, but hurriedly passed to me by my server. I was not asked if I would like grated Parmesan like I was the first time I received my food, and flavor wise, it just tasted like something was missing. Our server did apologize for the wait, but never offered to do anything to make it right. I doubt we would have taken her up on any offer to make it right, but her not even offering made us feel pretty unappreciated. I used to love this place, but don’t know if I’ll give it another chance in the future - everything was just that bad.
Waitress told us one kitchen was down and staff was short. It was evident in the long wait for food to be served (over an hour from order to main course arrival) . Waitress did a good job of keeping us severed as best as possible. All for meals served were only warm, not hot. Tasted good, but could have been better if served at proper temperature. Willing to give them another shot in the future, but next experience needs to be better for another return after that.
The kitchen had staffing problems and an oven was not working. The pizzas and baked cheese appetizer were unavailable. Our server was friendly, but had to be the bearer of bad news over the long delay. 2 hours after sitting at our table, still no food!
We had two pasta dishes. One a simple red sauce with shrimp for $19. It was okay. The second was a spinach capellini that was very short on spinach. Our carrot cake was dry throughout and burnt on the bottom of the top layer. We were surprised it was served. We were given a second desert.
Too busy so I feel food quality suffered.
Very long wait for food to be served.
Have been before and quality was much better, but it was not in the summer
Not a good experience compared to our previous visit. We were seated promptly at our reservation time but our server's first visit to our table was 10 minutes later. We ordered beverages and upon her return we ordered an appetizer which she informed us was unavailable due to the oven not working that is used for the baked cheese. Tried to order our second choice, and told sorry, we are out of meatballs---note this is an Italian restaurant 7:15pm on Friday night---out of meatballs?? Next when ordering dinner we were told sorry, no pizza, the pizza oven is not working. It would have been nice if we were told all of this when we were seated or, at the latest, before we ordered our beverages. Unfortunately, our service did not get any better, 20 minutes after we had finished our pre-dinner salads we flagged our server and she said sorry for the delay your food is coming up shortly. Another 20 minutes passed---total 1 hour 20 minutes from the time we were seated until our entrees arrived! The food is always very good, including tonight, but the service tonight was awful and the manager was a no-show. : (
Unfortunately, our food was not as good as usual. Four out of five meals' pasta dishes were very dry.
We were very disappointed to learn after we were seated that the pizza oven was not in operation. We went specifically to try the new cauliflower pizza which has been advertised aggressively.
We waited a long time for our food. But there was a party in the street that night, making them busier than normal probably. I asked for rooftop seating in my reservation, but they didn’t have any open tables there and we had to sit inside. Food was very good though and the Sangria is amazing
Great food. Service was excellent.
The food did not hold up to expectations, especially based on what we paid. Very bland and generic Italian in my opinion. Service was also terribly slow and the waitress didn't bother to check in at any point. Salads arrived 1 minute prior to main courses and the server asked to take my half eatten salad away in order to have room for my entree plate. The amount of ice in my manhattan was ridiculous. I actually wondered if I had offended the bar tender. Will not be returning.
Food was not great but not horrible. The rooftop was beautiful and the sangria was great. I would eat before you go but I really loved the rooftop and the service was great.
Was very disappointed, not with our server, he was kind and knowledgeable. It's the fact, we came in for a date night, had the smallest table, and we are not big people. Ordered a virgin mojito, served comes back and says you dont have mint leaves. This is the season for them, but okay, so we ordered the asiago cheese app, and sat..........
It took 45 minutes for our app. For something that take 3 minutes to make, that was just ridiculous. Then our pizza came out, it was okay. Pasta came out, and by that point we are hitting the 10 pm mark. Our reservations were at 8 and we were sat immediately. Then we were told the app was on the house, as it should be, and then had to remind our server so it would get taken off. Unfortunately, I will not return, nor brag to my clients. I've worked in restaurants, in downtown Ann Arbor, and that was the worst. Once again, our server was not at fault, and I'm not sure what happened to take so long for everything, but it's not worth coming back.
We have been here many times Over the past 10 years and every time the service gets worse and worse. Only go back because of the nostalgia of being our first date location and because food is good. This weekend we went and waited forever to place our appetizer order. After ordering app, we were told twice that it would be “right out” but for salad and soup and finished both before app came. (Only got a bruschetta app so nothing fancy). Then meal came and I took a bite of my “Parmesan crusted chicken” to find it didn’t taste right. I was spitting out the food when a woman came rushing from the kitchen with a plate that looked the same as mine Saying “whoops sorry, kitchen mixup you accidentally got the Parmesan crusted whitefish—here is your chicken”. She swapped the plates and walked away. Our waiter never followed up on the mistake and was barely visible for water refills or to offer the dessert tray. The table next to us waited an insane amount of time and didn’t have food when we left, despite having ordered before we arrived. They had many issues with their service as well. Despite the food, not sure if we will go back again.
We had a great time at the Palio in Ann Arbor. The service was great, the ambiance on the roof was enjoyable. However, the food was less than enjoyable. Firstly, the presentation of the food left a pot to be desired, as it appeared as if it was just plopped on the plate. Secondly, while salmon is typically a little fishy in taste, the salmon that we were served was extremely fishy...extremely. I hope that the Palio will plan to improve these items. I always enjoyed the food here. Unfortunately, this visit left me underwhelmed on the food front.
Great service, rooftop happy hour, excellent drinks, half off apps, delicious pasta! A great night at Palio!
Food, service and ambience are very good. We did not like the Tiramisu.
Birthday dinner for my dad
Food quality was not good. Pollo parmesan was quite tasteless (sauce and chicken), and the pasta was dried out and crunchy. The caesar salad was nice, though.
We were lucky that the dining room wasn't packed for a Saturday evening. Food is consistently excellent - we enjoyed Cavatappi con Pollo and Pollo Parmagiana (chicken Parmesan). These are a couple of our go tos. The Rigatoni Strascicati alla Lucchese is also a favorite of mine. We also had Caesar and house salads that were fresh and tasty.
The pasta sauce was fresh and the best we have eaten. All six of us enjoyed our evening.
- patio outside and on the roof is lovely and the restaurant had a great atmosphere overall
- staff was friendly and attentive despite being busy
- found hair in our Asiago al Forno appetizer
- the main dish we ordered (compelling de Gamberi scampi) really didn’t have that much flavor. I was really disappointed by it.
Food took almost an hour to come out
Kitchen mostly to blame but waiter was not good either
I’ve lived in Ann Arbor for 19 years, and this was hand’s down the worse dinner I’ve ever had. Was with my family, and it was bad from the beginning. Was seated in a noisy area. Silverware and plates were dirty, and requested clean ones. Server needed me to ask for break. While she was later refilling water, she poured water into our lemonade glasses. The sangria tasted awful. The meal was served very late (1 hour after she took the order). Presentation of the food was very unappetizing, and to be frank, just didn’t taste good. We had bones in our salmon!! This was seafood from Foley’s of Boston, and must of been the bottom of the barrel. Overall, just a horrible experience, and I usually don’t complain. I’ll never go back, and will certainly discourage anyone from going there.
