Palio - Ann Arbor

Palio del Sole (Palio rooftop) is walk-in only!
Great service, rooftop happy hour, excellent drinks, half off apps, delicious pasta! A great night at Palio!
Food, service and ambience are very good. We did not like the Tiramisu.
Birthday dinner for my dad
Food quality was not good. Pollo parmesan was quite tasteless (sauce and chicken), and the pasta was dried out and crunchy. The caesar salad was nice, though.
We were lucky that the dining room wasn't packed for a Saturday evening. Food is consistently excellent - we enjoyed Cavatappi con Pollo and Pollo Parmagiana (chicken Parmesan). These are a couple of our go tos. The Rigatoni Strascicati alla Lucchese is also a favorite of mine. We also had Caesar and house salads that were fresh and tasty.
The pasta sauce was fresh and the best we have eaten. All six of us enjoyed our evening.
- patio outside and on the roof is lovely and the restaurant had a great atmosphere overall
- staff was friendly and attentive despite being busy
- found hair in our Asiago al Forno appetizer
- the main dish we ordered (compelling de Gamberi scampi) really didn’t have that much flavor. I was really disappointed by it.
Food took almost an hour to come out
Kitchen mostly to blame but waiter was not good either
I’ve lived in Ann Arbor for 19 years, and this was hand’s down the worse dinner I’ve ever had. Was with my family, and it was bad from the beginning. Was seated in a noisy area. Silverware and plates were dirty, and requested clean ones. Server needed me to ask for break. While she was later refilling water, she poured water into our lemonade glasses. The sangria tasted awful. The meal was served very late (1 hour after she took the order). Presentation of the food was very unappetizing, and to be frank, just didn’t taste good. We had bones in our salmon!! This was seafood from Foley’s of Boston, and must of been the bottom of the barrel. Overall, just a horrible experience, and I usually don’t complain. I’ll never go back, and will certainly discourage anyone from going there.
We had a great experience for my sons birthday. The waitress was amazing and very responsive to everything we asked for especially for such a large group of people - 12 of us.... We had a couple issues with how the entrees were prepared but they fixed it immediately
We sat on the rooftop, which would have been fine if the legs on the tables weren’t so wobbly that we kept spilling our drinks. We even saw others moving because of the same wobbly table issue. Food was rather bland, but I appreciated the ability to ask for a variation in the dish to suit allergies (that’s not why the food was bland). The waitress spilled oil on my son because she was frustrated and hurried.
For a place on Main St. in Ann Arbor, I would have expected better quality and attention to detail.
We sat on the rooftop, which was lovely.
My husband and I went for our 18th anniversary and had a very nice time. The atmosphere was nice, the service was great and the food was very good. We'll definitely be back.
Our first visit back in many years and still wondering why. The food was outstanding and the gazpacho ricotta topping commenced a very flavorful meal.
Palio has been a family favorite for many years. Something seemed very different when we were there this time. Server was friendly and competent. But the menu was completely different, with a special “bruschetta” menu and only one or two other appetizers. No calamari... Mussels were good. Bruschetta ok, but sloppy presentation. Entrees were mediocre. Pasta with at least one dish was served in an inedible sticky clump. There were “add ons” offered with some of the pasta dishes—came with literally two of whatever: two meatballs, two shrimp... This was a special occasion, so we didn’t want to detract from it by complaining, but something is just very off at Palio. Oh and there were several flies landing on our (indoor) table. This makes me sad to report all of this. I had read some recent negative reviews on Google, but dismissed them because Palio has always been top notch. I hope this is a temporary rough patch, but we won’t be returning any time soon.
We love Palio. We love the food, the service and the atmosphere. Wonderful!
Great food, best location in AA as long as you are on the roof. Wait staff blamed kitchen for slow food, but we could see she was disorganized. Did not spoil meal, food was amazing!
The alfredo tasted like they had dumped a salt shaker into it. Our waitress was so inattentive that by the time she came back it was not worth mentioning the bad food. I went for my birthday dinner, and my dinner sucked. It took her 10+ minutes after she gave us the check to come back and get it (there was barely anyone there), and to get a box to take my boyfriends leftovers also took an additional 10+ minutes.
Sat on the rooftop for a girl’s night out. Perfect atmosphere!
Unfortunately, we made a reservation online for 9:00 p.m., which also happened to be the closing time of the restaurant on this father's day. We attempted to call to verify if we could still come, but their phones were shut down at 8:00 p.m. We arrived early to a scurry of employees trying to clean up and go. We tried to order quickly but they apparently tried to prepare our food quickly as well. We ordered a sangria pitcher but none of thought there was any alcohol in it. My son's sausage pasta contained cold sausage. I was working through a pesto dish with chicken but part of the chicken was not cooked thoroughly and then I pulled a long hair attached to cooked pasta out of my dish. They did act to correct both dishes. Someone left a whole tray of dishes next to someone's table and a guest bumped the whole tray, sending a loud crash to the floor. A sign of a good restaurant is one that makes their guests feel welcome no matter what time they arrive or what they order. Things just went wrong all around on this special father's day. We could not arrive sooner due to 3 of us working nor did we think we needed to since the time was available for reservations online.
Excellent food and excellent service as always! Just didn't like our table which was next to the kitchen and all the wait staff traffic:) Made reservations for this visit ...so think we should have had a better table location. Otherwise, everything else was AWESOME!
An Ann Arbor, Main Street mainstay for many years. Palio's features rustic Italian fare: pasta, pizzas, fish and meat dishes, as well as salads.
The food was good - expensive for pasta...but good. The service was great. But the place itself is weathered and old. The women's bathroom was wet like a pool floor. The toilets were leaking, the smell was horrible. The men's bathroom was not in good shape either. There are jars filled with produce, jams, and other Italian staples that sit on a shelf above each table - they have been opened and are rotting spreading nastiness at each table. While experience overall was fine, I would not return as it is very pricey for a restaurant that is dated and just okay.
The dinner started off poorly being seated against the wall by the server staging area. The service, food, and value made up for it for an overall experience.
We have never had a bad meal at Palio. Food is always exceptional. Service very good to excellent.
The food is excellent, and the service is always fantastic. Palio is one of our go-to places in Ann Arbor.
Birthday. The food was great. Our server was not very friendly
Food was excellent, red sangria was tremendous, and it was a lovely night to be up on the patio. Great evening all around.
Our waitress Heather was fabulous, we will definitely return.
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and we had an amazing experience. It was a beautiful night so we sat on the patio which was so nice! Our waitress was great and clearly experienced, and our food was amazing. We got an appetizer and two entrees (no drinks) for about $50 which we felt was very reasonably priced.
We came to celebrate what would have been my 50th wedding anniversary, three widowed friends. All of us had come for celebrations with our husbands for decades. We sat in the open-air top, looking over sunset in the cityi. The food was marvelous, the service friendly and knowledgeable. The only negative was the lack of cannoli. How can an Italian restaurant stop serving cannoli?
Delightful anniversary dinner on the patio!
Great food, outstanding service, and an honest explanation why cannoli was removed from the dessert menu. But our disappointment vanished upon tasting the recommended tiramisu. Heavenly...
It was just ok. Food was bland.
Loved it. The rooftop is a great place for dinner.
We enjoyed our waiter very much, a young man named Antoine. He’d only been working at Palio’s for a few days, took good care of us and was very friendly. The food was delicious, as always, but there was quite a wait for our entrees, much longer than we’ve come to expect at nice restaurants in Ann Arbor like Palio.
We have been to Palio’s in the past but this visit was just mediocre at best. I stood in front of the hostess table to check in and there were 2 ladies there carrying on a lengthy conversation not even acknowledging us. After about 3 or 4 minutes she looked at me and asked me if she could help me. My party was seated in a separate small front area where the tables were so close together that the poor server couldn’t even get all the way around the table and when another party came to sit behind me they couldn’t even pull the chair out. Our server was wonderful and helpful. We ordered dinner and when the food finally came I got somebody else’s dinner. I told the person delivering the food that the food I received was wrong so she took the plate away. Everyone else In my party received their food but waited to eat until I got my food. I told them to go ahead and don’t wait for me which they luckily did because it was another 5 minutes before my food was delivered. Like I said earlier we have been to Palio’s before with a very positive experience so hopefully this visit was not an indication of future dining experiences here at Palio’s
This was our first visit to Palio. We enjoyed everything about it. Our server Karl was excellent and so helpful with menu choices. I definitely recommend this restaurant for casual dining in Ann Arbor!
