Palermo's 95th Fine Italian Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
When we lived closer, we ate here pretty regularly and always were pleased. Great pizza, tasty Italian specialties and great service. We had a chance to return recently and found that it was exactly the same and just as popular- be prepared for a wait without reservartions. A reliable local restaurant.
Server forgot to bring us our salads - had to request it be taken off the bill. Bus boy decided to reach across the table to clear the table and thusly spilled water and soft drinks on my mother - she was soaking wet. Food was lukewarm. It appears Palermos is resting on its reputation from bygone years.
Great choice for an Authentic Chicago-style Italian meal. Close to Midway Airport! Great meal after landing at airport on our way to points south. Can't wait to go back. The stuffed banana peppers were the BOMB! Also ordered a regular crust specialty pizza with extra sauce.
Normally I enjoy this restaurant but this time was really not good. I recommended it for a family and friend gathering of 7 (the table was too small, no space to eat, the service was not good, a few of the dishes were awful). The trade-off for two meals being inadequately prepared was to remove one drink from the check, and it wasn't even the drink of a customer with the inadequate meal. I was disappointed and embarrassed. I will not go to this establishment again.
We had pizza today. Palermos sweet sauce is really unique and just pairs perfectly with their regular-pastry-type crust, cheese and sausage. We special ordered extra sauce and light sausage and it was perfect! The service was excellent and the hostess even asked if I'd like to be in the bar area, but at a low, comfy table to watch football on TV. Thank you!! The bread is always warm, crusty and flavorful. We drive over 60 miles to get to Palermo's, and all the friends we introduce to the place wind up addicted to the place as well!
Our group of seven ladies was seated close to the kitchen where the servers were going in and out of, sometimes accidentally bumping into the ladies chairs who were seated on that side of the table. Our server was busy, but should have made an effort to visit us more often to check on the food and our beverages. Parking is horrible, two of the ladies used the valet which they appreciated. We will return but will never sit in the same area again.
I arrived at 10 to 6 seated in a couple of minutes. It took 25 minutes to get a cup of soup another 25 minutes for the pizza to come and another 25 minutes to get our entree..we order everything at one time. Bad service and on top of that we asked to talk a manager and he never came to our table I seen him look but nothing.. there a very busy restaurant but not that night ..
Food and service were good. Our water and beverage glasses were kept full and service was quick and attentive. We had the Sicilian grilled shrimp and calimari appetizer which was great. One of us even ordered the swordfish prepared the same way. The Pizza was great as usual. I love the sauce and the crispy crust! The only bad item was the romaine salad appetizer we split. It was overloaded with balsamic vinegar ! So much that the lettuce came to the table wilted! We complained and it was removed from our bill, however the server said that was how it was always prepared. Good to know, I won't get that again. Interestingly enough, the salads we saw being brought out as part of other people's dinners did not look like the one we were going to pay $8.95 for. They just looked like normal salads. Have been here before and will return. I have learned that you must always make reservations, if not you will wait almost an hour, which is not worth it. We had reservations and we're seated immediately. That was terrific!
Overall our experience was terrible. Our waitress (Ester) was very inattentive. Food was slow in coming out and dirty dishes sat on table until we finally picked them up for waitress ourselves so she would finally take them away. At one point she even suggested that we pick them up and put them in dirty bowl so she would take them. The mussels had lots of broken shells in the sauce. My daughter's pasta was cold. The restaurant also was really cold. Based on this, we will not be back.
Service is starting to go down hill. The host and hostesses must be family because I wouldn't think a business man would tolerate having the three of them standing around on their cell phones with customers waiting. Checked in and told them I was stepping around the corner to use the restroom. Came out and sat with the rest of my party for another 15 minutes. They were seating everyone except us. When I asked if there was an issue with my reservation, was told you "were in the bathroom". I am bigger than a bread box and hard to miss. Cell phones should not be allowed in service positions because our server was also on hers too. No wonder we couldn't get a refill on our drinks.
We go here, because my husband ate pizza here since childhood. The consistency of quality has never changed and that's a bonus! They use quality meats and cheeses for their pizzas and you can selected the crust from deep dish to Neopolitan-style. We can also trust that they will have Peroni on tap and by the pitcher! Their menu boasts of many Italian dishes too numerous to comment on here, but our family loves them on a regular basis!
We've been going to Palermo's for over 25 years, and have always gotten excellent pizza. This time, however, we were not pleased. The pizza was not hot, and needed to stay in the oven longer. I realize that they were very busy, but we've been loyal because of the consistency. This time, we were disappointed. If the trend continues, we will find an alternative.
