The food was good, Paladar has nice ambiance, and Stephanie's service was excellent - the highlight of the evening.
I can recommend the beef tacos, though the accompanies beans and rice needed a lot of salt. The restaurant has a spicy sauce that has a real kick. Its orange in color - but don't let the appearance fool you. That sauce is has a kick!
The food was good and appreciate the varied take on classic Hispanic and other dishes. Service, however, was extremely slow. At one point I thought my server had left/gone on break. Not sure I’d go back if time is a factor.
Maitre’d made a face when we requested a patio table
I have a wonderful experience every time.
Mother’s Day Brunch was incredible. Couldn’t find one thing I had issue with. The choices were plentiful and everything was delicious. Definitely need to check them out for happy hour.
This food was ok...not worth the price for brunch!! The regular menu would be just fine next time. Excellent run bar and spirits menu though!!!
Fabulous food and service!
Drinks were inconsistent and not as well prepare as I was used to from paladar. one was too spicy to enjoy. Food was good.
We first tried Paladar on New Years Eve 2018 and had a good experience. We returned on 5.3.19 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. What a tremendous disappointment it was. A server brought us water and said someone else was coming to serve us. Nearly 30 minutes later no one showed. Many wait staff walked by us at least 20 times. Finally, we decided to leave. We told the hostess who was very nonchalant about it. She never offered to call a manager. She did not try to address the issue or even get us to stay. We ended up walking down the block to Ruth Chris where I spent twice what I would have at Paladar but at least the service and food was great.
We had a very pleasant dinner with friends. The food is more interesting than Mexican with more depth and variety. Looking forward to going back soon.
Food here was pleasantly good and fresh, I had the ceviche and a wrap. Will be back to sample more
I typically never have a problem eating at Paladar in Gaithersburg. In fact, it is my go-to place for happy hour. Unfortunately, their Easter brunch was not what we anticipated. My preteen child mentioned that the salmon and churros were dry and over-cooked. (I agree with his assessment.) I wasn't sure if the corn grits were meant to be dry or more fluid like Southern grits. But, the guacamole and cheesy bread they had were amazing. Their beef roast was on point! Customer service was great! This experience will not stop me from coming back to the restaurant and I still love Paladar =), but I probably should have spent my $30 at another place for a buffet-style meal.
Latin American Comfort Food at its best! When you add a large diverse menu, great food, good service, and a Rum bar all in one place you have Paladar.
The food was outstanding. We had the calamari appy and I had the pork chop. My wife had chicken. All were amazing. Additionally we were in a hurry due to theatre tickets and they had us out the door in 40 mins. Highly, highly recommended.
Great dining experience. The waitress was especially nice. She encouraged us to try the guacamole with mango which was really good.
The food was well made and the ambiance was relaxing. We went for happy hour. It needs more food and drink options
Food was good. Service was terrible. The server brought us our meals before even clearing the appetizer plates and then never checked on us or refilled our water. Had to asked for to-go boxes 3 times before she brought them.
While the drinks (smoked pineapple margaritas) and food (sweet potato and hearts of palm tacos and ensalada mixta) were delicious, the service was sub par. We went at 3:45, so there weren’t many patrons. However, for some reason our server was never around when we needed her.
As tasty as the meal was, it’s limited for a vegetarian, so if I ever go back, I will probably only go there for drinks. Maybe the service is quicker if you are right in the server’s/bartender’s face.
With this restaurant, over the years, it's always been hit or miss.
This time we went there for a birthday celebration. Five people. The food was from just ok (salsa, salads, churros) to good (empanadas, tres leches) to very good (the guacamole, the chips, the feijoada, the shrimp and grits, the flan).
However, the good and very good do not make up for the AWFUL SERVICE. The restaurant was mostly empty, so there isn't even a way to justify what we got. The waitress told us she was new, though, but then it is on the manager not to place her with a larger party (she did not have much more than a three tables, and the others were small parties) without more help.
She messed up *A LOT*: all her trips between kitchen/bar to the tables did not bring or take away what she needed to bring or take away . . . She also took two wrong item orders. We would wait and wait for things she had forgotten, had to ask again, all the time:
- the second bottle of wine we ordered took so long that we had already finished our main courses (we had to ask twice for it, and then a glass of wine was brought instead)
- the spoons for our desserts (we had to ask the runner)
- the sweetener for a tea (it came after requesting it again and after the desserts were done)
Not even letting the manager know was enough, and he acted incredulously, as if this was a surprise to him. The waitress would also once in a while ask if everything was OK . . . just asking does not make her service right!!!!! She is supposed to have taken the right orders, she is supposed to take the plates away before the new plates are delivered, she is supposed to not make many trips and not bring the things that she forgot before in any of those trips.
What was supposed to be a celebration was somewhat frustrating.
One good thing: because she was so bad a waitress, and it took so long to dine, we had a lot of time to talk, but this does not make up for the bad service.
Portions are too huge. It would be nice if they offered 1/2 size portions or simply reduced the size. That would allow us to order an app or two, a side and maybe even desert. But a 8oz piece of fish accompanied by a dozen shrimp (plus over a cup of rice) is way too much for a single person to eat for a main course.
Food was very tasty. Customer service was a little slow and inattentive, and it wasn't terribly busy. We were seated right away and didnt have to wait and the appearance of the restaurant was clean and pleasant.
Good variety of food and drinks. The quality and taste can be better.
We hadn't been to Paladar in awhile. It was great to find that it is still a good choice in Gaithersburg. I had my favorite dish there, the coconut curry stew. Even without an added protein it was delicious and filling. My husband had the fish tacos. They were very good, but they had a very small amount of fish on them. Still will return soon.
Personable, relaxing, with an amiable, conscientious waiter. There are always interesting entrées. I especially like the
WILD SOCKEYE SALMON & SPINACH SALAD. The salmon portion was very generous and cooked to order with a very unique marinade. I find that one test of an excellent kitchen is the ability to cook salmon medium rare and Paladar met the test. We will be returning very soon to try some of the other entrées.
I love this place. Every time family comes and we go here. Their meals are consistently delicious. I am not a drinker but everyone else in my family does and they’re always happy, yet I can always find myself a mixed drink without alcohol. The service is always good, sometimes the meal takes a Little while longer, but we never mind because we always want to catch up anyway. I highly recommend this place and I will continue to go here whenever someone comes up to visit
Atmosphere was Lively. We add appetizer guacamole fish which was barely prepared it was basically a check into lump of avocado. My main dish was the pork shank which was extremely tasty but unfortunately the waiter had NO personality and barely checked in on us during the whole meal
The bottomless mimosas ($15) was a great addition to our brunch. There were 4 flavors and you could switch it up each time. We enjoyed and will go back.
Mardi Gras! Great service, menu, food, drinks and dance band!
Very disappointed in the service and the food options and quality at Paladar.
Super fun! Great food and drinks. The bar area was packed so we unfortunately had to move somewhere else after but fun!!
With a caveat...
I LOVE this restaurant! This is only my second visit but another delicious dining experience. And the cocktails were especially fresh & yummy. However, we were disappointed by one thing.
I was very excited when I looked online and saw they had happy hour even on Saturdays. So, when I was about to order my third mojito, I asked if we were still in the happy hour time period. I was told that happy hour was limited to bar seating only. So, if you go in the bar and just get drinks, you get your mojito for $5. But if you sit in the dining room, a mere few feet away, you pay $8.50 for that same mojito! NOT FAIR...
My husband spoke to the manager and she stated it was their policy, and they try to ask people as they are coming in if they want the happy hour or not (who wouldn't!?) So, after spending $155 for dinner & drinks, we did not qualify for the happy hour prices. BAD POLICY. I've been to LOTS of bar/restaurants and have never heard of such a thing. She conceded and allowed the happy hour price for my third mojito, & husband's drink order at that moment -- but not for the first two. Sorry Paladar but that stinks. Left a bad taste in our mouths. Lesson Learned.
Paladar has an interesting menu with a lot of good choices at a reasonable cost. And the restaurant is fun and lively. Their drinks are not a strength; my wife liked her sangria but my Painkiller was watery (too much juice, little evidence of rum). This time the service was good although our entrees were not great. My wife's cod was too spicy and more shrimp than fish. My pork shank was dry and in the reheating process some parts were hot while inside it was still cold. We used to go every month but have dropped back to 2-3 times / year, given the decline since it first opened (plus the prices have edged up). I'd love to be able to write a more positive review but am still waiting for improvement.
Awesome time!... enjoyed the Salsa lessons and the music! Great vibes and energy
The mojitos are THE BEST ever. Ropa vieja is always good.
Me and two others went to Paladar for brunch this past weekend. I’ve been here many times and I’m always very satisfied, but this time was that much better. Nubia was our server and was AMAZING. I will personally request to be seated in her area for all future trips to Paladar.
The food was amazing. You have to try the tres leches cake 😍😍😍
Everything was great! It was super accommodating for our friends who have severe gluten allergy. The gluten free menu plus the message on the top is very well thought out.
What a delightful meal, and lovely restaurant. Very enjoyable.
Great brunch, our server was Jeanette and she was great
