Palace Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Short Review: Food and service were lazy, unimaginative, and over priced.
Long Review: My girlfriend and I visited from out of town and took a chance on Palace Cafe for a NYE celebration dinner based on positive reviews from local food magazines. The dishes, lobster piled salad, steak tenderloin, gnocchi, all sounded potentially interesting but were executed in a mediocre manner. Imagine cutting into a luke warm beef tenderloin (which tasted like fish?) only to find it lying on a hidden bed of raw, unflavored arugula that had wilted unnecessarily from having a piece of meat thrown on it. A cloyingly sweet demi-glaze drizzled around the plate the only flavor to be found. The same demi-glaze that had been used on all previous dishes.
We had also initially chosen Palace Cafe because their usually dinner service provided some ample vegetarian options that my vegan girlfriend thought were interesting. There were no special vegetarian NYE menu (completely understandable), but they did offer all of their usual vegetarian dinner menu. The few modifications needed to make certain dishes vegan (aka, "leave off the cheese") where graciously handled on a busy NYE eve. However, something pitched as a "kale salad" was the same sad arugula that arrived on my dishes and every dish had zested lemon. Why?
Our booth was in the bar area on the way to and from the kitchen - an area traditionally (and understandably) managed by one over-worked bartender. We were actually excited to have a quite, romantic booth away from the main dining room. However, waiters rushed by without clearing plates and congregated at the nearby bar to constantly complain about the management or other diners. At one point, a waitress counseled the bartender, "pour anything in there, they won't know the difference."
Save your money for some place better.
I ordered the Lobster Ravioli, it was so salty! Even the spinach in the middle was crunchy with salt. The buttermilk fried chicken skewers were dry and tasteless, the shrimp was briney.
This use to be our favorite go to place. We keep giving it try after try, this will be our last time. I noticed it was very slow, especially for a Saturday night.
Maybe James should be more involved again, that's when it was so good and amazing!
I was disappointed with my food and service. No one offered us coffee. So we want some where to have coffee. The short ribs for the price is not worth it. I did get to finish my wifes entree. I eat out a lot and at a lot of nice places. My wife has always wanted to go here, so we tried it. I do think 9.00 for a bloody Mary is a little steep. Mix was not that good. The presentation were nice. The food was nothing special.
This was my second visit to The Palace within a few months. The first time was a Friday night Happy Hour with my wife. We both enjoyed the Bentos and found each dish well prepared and excellent. The second time was a business dinner. We found the menu provided many offerings to meet our individual tastes and an excellent wine list. Service was very good. Parking and access were poor. I recommend The Palace.
Had brunch wasn't delivered as stated on menu but it was still overall good the toast was not very fresh she brought more but still not good. The bacon was brought out cold but she did not hesitate to bring out more that was fresh/hot. It was busy so maybe that was a reason for some of the food not being delivered correctly. Special was supposed to have fried green tomatoes but they were just tomatoes and there was no hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Benedict my fiancee's eggs were brought out in a bowl and we ordered the same thing.
My wife and I had an amazing evening with friends at the Palace Cafe. Jake our server was courteous friendly and made us feel at home. Outstanding delicious and healthy food options. The tiny appetizers ($3.50 each) allow the guest to sample a delightful assortment of the chef's creations. The salads were unique and healthy (try the kale or the grilled Caesar). We shared the tenderloin, salmon, and a vegetable entree. All prepared perfectly. Fresh berry compote with homemade ice cream for dessert finished the meal nicely. We will return, soon!
This was my first time to eat at Palace. I enjoyed the food, and our server was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Overall the experience was good; for me personally though, I thought it was a bit too expensive. I hear their prices for lunch and brunch are much more reasonable, so I may go back during those time slots.
Our brunch meal was wonderful as always. My wife had the 2 eggs over medium with sausage and sliced tomatoes with toast all perfectly done. I had the deluxe grill cheese with bacon sandwich and the delicious tomato bisque soup . Our breakfast mimosas were a nice compliment to our delightfully served meals.
