He me a was overrated. I have high expectations with all of the good reviews. The salmon was way under cooked, the steak was not a good cut of meat and was cold. The portions were really tiny. It is defiantly not worth the price which was a bummer because everything else about the hotel is awesome. You are better off ordering room service in your room.
Went for Valentines day and had made the reservation several months in advance. Don't think they advertised at the time it was a set course but I found out a couple days before when they called to confirm the reservation. Was not hot on the set menu but it was to late to make new reservations. We opted for the wine paring with each course. The food and wine came so fast we felt like we had to chug our wine. Would have been done and out with four courses and four glasses of wine in 45 minutes till I told them to hold off on desert until we caught up on the wine. To bad, was really looking for a nice dinner.
We went on their Valentines Day special. It was our first time at the Brown Palace and it will be our last. They told us we would get wine with the $100 special and we got a few sips. Seriously, It was pretty close to an empty glass.
We felt very rushed, I’m guessing so they could get the next person in our chair. The service was not good and the food wasn’t the best.
It’s such a bummer because we were really excited about it.
The Palace Arms was a wonderful experience overall! The ambiance was very nice and the dining room only had around 20 tables, which made it nice a quiet. Beautiful dining room, too, with decorations that make it look a bit like a palace (appropriately named). We got the chicken roulade to share between two of us for an appetizer, and it was delicious. We also split the Beef Wellington and Wagyu Beef Filet for entrees, and those were superb as well. We both especially liked the Beef Wellington, because the pastry was cooked perfectly and had a great buttery taste to go with the perfectly cooked (medium rare) beef. The bread was great too, of which there were two kinds - one rye, and I can't remember the other, but it was delicious too. The rye rolls stood out to me, though. They have an extensive wine list with great by-the-glass options too. The staff was very nice and professional - very available and happy to answer any and all questions, they were very knowledgeable about the food, we didn't feel rushed to order, and they were great about being aware of conversation and not interrupting.
It is expensive, but for us it was definitely worth it for a special occasion or a very nice date night. Highly recommended!
We went here last night for the first time. Made the reservation through Open Table and included that it was our anniversary. As soon as we sat down, they brought out a complimentary glass of champagne for us with multiple congratulations. We arrived about 15 minutes early because we weren't sure about traffic, and were seated immediately. There was also complimentary coat check and valet with dinner. The dining room was small but intimate, perfect for a quiet night together. We felt a little far away from each other across the table and noticed another couple had felt the same way because they ended up on the same side. It was a Wednesday night, so it was pretty slow, which meant we were attended to more often. There were four other tables sat the three hours we were there. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, about three different people were checking on us all night, as well as the sommelier who stopped by once. We ordered the 6-course Chef's Tasting Experience and were able to get one vegetarian and one not, as well as a wine pairing with each course. Overall, the food was terrific. We didn't know what was going to be coming out, and I think we each loved five of the six courses we got, and the sixth was a just personal preference, not the food itself. We both agreed that the mushroom cappelletti with a lobster mushroom tea poured over it was the most delicious. Portions were small, but with a six-course meal, the last few were tough to get through. As we paid our bill, I was handed a single-cut rose. Overall, the service and food were amazing. It was expensive, but the food was top notch, and we were well taken care of so it was well worth it. We will be coming back here and recommending it to everyone we know.
I have been going to the Brown Palace for many years. However, it seems like they’re losing their edge on the super great service they’ve always had in the past. I’ll go back again and hoping this was a one off that shouldn’t happen again. Menu has changed to portions are quite a bit smaller. Dessert was good but again the portions were very very small. It wasn’t a busy night by far, we should not have had to wait as long for our check.
We patronize the Palace Arms because it is quiet. On this occasion, amplified piano from the lobby made it somewhat noisier than usual but still far better than the typical modern place with an open kitchen, open bar, and muzak making conversation difficult. The food was outstanding except for the dessert we happened to choose (still OK). The wine list is one of the best.
Indulging at The Palace Arms is by far the best fine dining experience that we have had in Denver. Denver has some wonderful restaurants, and some expensive ones as well. The Palace Arms is a place where you can spend a lot but feel like you are getting every bit of value possible. We plan on returning for more special occasions!
The tasting menu featured perfectly cooked food. I especially loved the cod and citrus chocolate dessert. The flavors made it unforgettable.
The service was impeccable. I was particularly impressed by the team work. Anyone walking by attended to what was needed, regardless of whether they were assigned to my table. Best service I’ve experienced
Ignored at host station for 5 full minutes as host chatted with non customers. Not served bread until my second course. Sure would have been nice to have bread with my soup, which was astonishingly good. Served unfinished risotto: it was luke warm and had unmelted cubes of cheese in it. I had to convince my server of the fact. A waygu small plate was just ok. Soup, the small plate, and 2 glasses of wine totalled up at about $100. Wish I'd just gone next door to La Loma for green chili instead.
My husband and I try to go to a "fancy" dinner for Christmas every year. This year, we decided to try the Palace Arms, which has been noted as 4 or more stars for many years. We both got the 8 course tasting menu. The service was excellent. The ambiance is old-school and quite nice. The food was competent. There was nothing that stood out as particularly excellent, especially original, or really awful. The wine pairing were odd; this is the first time I have ever had a red paired with lobster. We enjoyed our dinner, but for this price point we won't be back.
Went for thanksgiving dinner which was a 4 course menu.
The only half-decent course was dessert. The others were bland and not cooked well. It seemed haphazardly put together.
Service seemed rushed and very hit and miss. One or two waiters were ok but another seemed overtly casual for what is essentially a rather pricey and supposedly upmarket restaurant.
They tried hard to push a $90 wine pairing on us and wouldn’t take the hint when we tried to politely decline.
Really disappointing as the hotel itself is beautiful and the dining room is quite atmospheric.
Visited the Palace Arms for our anniversary and very much wanting to like this restaurant because the ambiance was quiet & relaxing. However, the food was a big disappointment. I ordered the Wagyu beef which was very tough & extremely small portion. My husband ordered the Palace filet which was tiny, but at least tender. For as pricey as this meal was I expected much better quality. I will not be returning as you can get far better food at much better price eating at Perry's s or Shanahan's. Best part of this place was the Lobby.
I rarely ever write reviews, but I just couldn't let this one go without saying something. We booked rooms & dinner at the Brown Palace to celebrate the 60th birthday of a very close friend. I mentioned 3 times(on our Open Table res., at check in, & when we were seated for dinner) that we were celebrating a 60th bday. They did absolutely nothing!!! We did one of their tasting menus & it was nothing special......just okay. Our waiter couldn't remember all the items included on the tasting, & basically just left it at that--very awkward. The total dinner(& wine) for 4 people was $700!! Ridiculous in my opinion. For that price it should have been over the top, amazing food, & service. It was neither. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. The restaurant & hotel are "riding on their laurels" & definitely need to up their game!
My wife and I wish to make comments about the dinner experience Saturday night, October 21st at Palace Arms restaurant. It was our anniversary and sad to say, it was awful. We had an early reservation to have a quite nice anniversary evening celebration.
Our very unfriendly main waiter Matthew, who never introduces himself, was not knowledgeable about 6 course dinner menu when we asked him to describe it. He were going back to the kitchen to ask the chef twice.
I ordered the Beef Wellington and the six course dinner for my wife expecting a nice experience and conversations over a surprised 6 course dinner (according to the restaurant website)
Chef Kasper brought the dinner courses to my wife (no introduction) explaining every course with a robotic unfriendly fashion, while I was looking at my wife eating, my plate was empty.
The third course for my wife was Wagyu beef. The appearance and the taste were just awful (raw, pink and fatty) we send it back and we were not offered anything else instead. I did not want to make a seen in front of my wife about the service and the food, but this cannot be tolerated. My Beef Wellington (see picture below) was tiny and terrible. There were no mushrooms or greens as it was described on the menu. The pastry shell was uncooked raw dough and the beef was tough. The paltry amount of mashed potatoes and 3 small broccoli florets was ridiculous. After paying $185 + $35 in gratuity we left hungry and disappointed.
We are world travelers resigned in Golden, but never experienced a rip-off like this. We will never recommend the Brown Palace and the Palace Arms restaurant to any of our local friends.
We went to Palace Arms for my wife's birthday and wanted to do something different and special. The Six Course dinner with wine pairing was exactly that! Chef Kasper did an amazing job of creatively choosing and presenting the courses. The wine pairings were perfect, and at times, surprising. This was by far the most stupendous dinner of our lives. We have been raving to everyone since.
We arrived and were taken by the service which was great. We participated in a chef's tasting menu of 6 courses I believe and frankly they were all a little odd and sub par. We found the prices to be pretty outrageous as well but knew that going in. Again, service was great just not great food.
We ordered the 8 course menu and let the chef pick what to serve. Food was amazing. Most ingredients were local. The servers were attentive without being overbearing. It was an enjoyable evening. Slightly loud due to private party in adjacent space but I still highly recommend the restaurant
Did not appreciate phone call night before telling us they were busy and we could only stay 2 hours. Plenty of time, but seemed a little inappropriate. Have had the tableside Caesar Salad many times so ordered it, was presented with a bowl of salad, no longer doing tableside, disappointing, should have been told ahead of time. Small entrée selection.Really small portions when ordering the "tasting". Had to send back one item as it was all fat, was told it was pork belly so that is how it comes. Did receive something in it's place. Our waiter was very nice and the wine selection is excellent. It just does not have the 5 Star experience that I have had previously. Seems mediocre at best. No more fine china!!
Only positives-bread and gentleman who was serving it & water.
Now start the negatives:
1. We ordered a bottle of wine. They did great on the presentation of the wine. However, with the exception of one time, I had to refill our wine glasses. This is tolerable in a mid-level restaurant but not in a restaurant like Palace Arms.
2. We ordered an app based on the recommendation of our server (the heirloom potatoes that are served on top of salt brick). Sounded interesting even though it was $17. What we received was maybe 3 small tomatoes that had been cut up, a couple small pieces of cheese, and some chopped up basil, on a plate (not the salt brick). When we told the server who dropped it off, they stated they were running low. Why were we the ones they decided to skip?! We told them that was the main reason we were intrigued about the dish so they fixed and brought out the dish. Despite this dish being a complete rip off, that may have been the best tasting dish we had (bread was still better but not a dish).
3. We then shared the lamb lasagna. Not much to say about this. It was completely flavorless and terribly small for $26.
4. We shared the wagyu filet ($56). We had it cooked just a little more than mid-rare. It was supposed to come with some type of side but that was maybe a bite. The meat was tough.
5. The only other thing is that the restaurant is next to the cigar bar. I love cigars but when in a nice restaurant, I prefer to not have the smell of smoke and my wife always prefers no cigar smoke. The restaurant was completely odorless until one server went through some other doors to go to the smoking side and left the door cracked. That created a draft. I kindly asked the server to close the doors and his response was “well we are next to a cigar lounge”. I informed him that I am aware of that but the smell didn’t start until the door was cracked and created a draft. He finally closed but I don’t why he bothered arguing with me.
We dined at Palace Arms for our Anniversary. The service was outstanding and genuine. We decided to try the 6 course Chef's tasting menu. Wow! Garrett, our chef was wonderful. We had the heirloom tomato salad - so good! This was followed by a combination of melon, lobster and caviar which was also tasty. Next was lamb lasagna- this was very rich, I loved the cauliflower mushrooms and the homemade pasta, and the sauces! After this we were served smoked salmon over ricotta with fennel and deep fried dill with fish scales and beet puree- fabulous! The next course was beef with broccolini puree - this was one of my favorites. Finally, we had strawberry shortcake - not like any you've had before! The sommelier chose a wine for me that went with everthing. We were so full, and enjoyed every minute of it! We were fortunate to speak with the chef for each course and it truly made for an incredible dining experience and memorable anniversary dinner. We recommend Palace Arms for your special occasion!
