About PAIRINGS palate + plate
PAIRINGS, a family owned and operated restaurant, brings together globally inspired cooking, local and sustainable practices and the comfort of grandma's recipes. We welcome you into our dining room to slowdown, to disconnect from your electronic devices and to reconnect with family and friends over our food and your wine. Your dinner is leisurely paced as all of your meal is thoughtfully crafted for you.
Our plates, which change based on seasonal availability, extend from gourmet to comfort. Each dish is prepared with ingredients strategically paired to intrigue and invigorate, to stimulate and satisfy; just-baked breads and desserts, freshly rolled pastas, slowly braised meats, à la minute sautéed seafood and churned daily ice creams, leave no palate untingled.
Sit back. Relax. Sip. Rekindle. Dine. We welcome you into our house with open arms.

PAIRINGS palate + plate Ratings and Reviews
We took my wife’s parents out to celebrate their birthdays. From the moment we arrived, and until we left, everything was as perfect as you can imagine. They personalized our menus with a “Happy Birthday”, started us off with a palate cleanser. The food was fantastic, everyone enjoyed it. We grabbed a bottle of wine at the wine store up the block. At the end, the waiter brought out a plate of cookies with a lit candle and “Happy Birthday” was written on the plate.
Thank you for making our night!
Service was pleasant but timing was terrible. We ordered shortly after we sat down at 7:15 but did not get entrees until 9:00. Unacceptable. No visit from the manager, no offer of compensation (dessert, for example). Our server was lovely and apologetic, but kitchen could not meet the diners’ needs
The food was amazing. Everything that they served from the beginning to the end was divine. The loveseat was very comfy. We celebrated our anniversary here and without a doubt became a memorable experience. Costumized menu for every occasion which was perfect. Me and my husband totally enjoyed it.Thank you.
My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable when it came to explaining their menu options. The portion sizes were appropriate and the food was all excellent. Thank you PAIRINGS for a wonderful experience! We will definitely be visiting again!
It's been about a year since visiting Pairings. Every time we go, we wonder why we don't pick it more often. We're spoiled in central NJ with restaurants, but few are as spot on as Pairings.
The menu is foody, creative, and varied without being bourgeois; we love the BYOB factor; the mains are not tiny portions.
The staff is always friendly and good here, but the server we had this time bordered on awesome.
If you haven't tried it, try it. If you have, remember to go back.
I am never disappointed at Pairings. The menu is not overly large, but gives plenty of choices. I would like to have everything. Locally sourced food and seasonal ingredients are the hallmark of this restaurant. I had halibut and scallops, absolutely delicious. My husband had a wonderful salmon dish. We shared a delicious arugula salad with some local cheese. BYOB certainly helps keep the cost down. In addition to the wonderful food and stylish decor, I have to say that the welcome is so warm from the owners and the service is absolutely marvelous. Go!!
We are never disappointed by Pairings! This time, we made a last-minute Friday night reservation because of an enticing email that described a kitchen-to-table tasting menu based on the chef's cultural influence and food passion. Each course was a delicious and sophisticated delight with significant effort made for the five courses. We could not decide which was our favorite.
Because of gracious hosts, a lovely atmosphere, wonderful cuisine, and our own wine selections, we just love Pairings!
Carol and Vin, we are forever grateful for how you made us feel so special tonight. from the amuse-bouche to the last bite of dessert. everything was absolutely delicious! we shared the pork belly and octopus and the orecchiette pasta. excellent! the duck and the steak were wonderful. special thank you to Aura and Gerardo. for dessert we had the macaron ice cream sandwiches and the warm brownie sundae. we loved it so much!! Laura and Vanessa are simply amazing. we had so much fun tonight and we look forward to going again. thank you so so so much!!!
We recently moved to Cranford and have been on the hunt for a location to hold our twins' baby shower. I came across Pairings and it just so happened to be an anniversary for me and my husband. I made a reservation that day, and we were so excited to see the location in person and try the food.
From the moment we walked in, we were truly impressed. Carol the owner was at the door to greet us with her husband. She let us choose our table in the back for privacy, and right away, I fell in love with the ambiance. The decor is modern and luxurious, and the table we sat at was beyond comfortable. My husband, who is oblivious to furniture, commented numerous times on how much he liked the "couch-like" seating... he wants one for our house now, haha.
The waiter was courteous and very welcoming. We started with 2 salads, the Caribbean Mango salad and the Arugala salad. They were fresh, light, and full of flavor, and the portion size was perfect. For entrees, I ordered the eggplant fettuccine with pesto, and my husband the angus steak. Both were cooked to perfection... the eggplant was flavorful and the pasta was dressed just right with a devine garnishing of pesto. My husband's steak was prepared beautifully, and the side dish, which looked like a form of French fries was amazing!!! I'm not sure exactly what or how they were made, but I could order an entire bowl and eat just that! They were unbelievable!!! Lastly was dessert, we were torn on what to order but went with the warm brownie sundae. Almost the best way to end the dinner, until the waiter came one last time with 2 cookies on a platter with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. :)
This was an exquisite experience and we will definitely be back. I am completely won over by the hospitality of Pairings, and plan on booking my baby shower here!
5 stars all around!!!
We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. I was looking for some place that we hadn't been to before but had an exceptional reputation. I spoke to Carol by phone to discuss my wife's food allergies. She assured me that they were used to accommodating such requirements.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Carol, wishing us both a happy anniversary. When we were seated, we were introduced to our server. The server knew the food that was being offered and was already aware of my wife's food requirements. We didn't need to review or say another thing. We later were told that he was provided a copy of a marked up menu by Carol, so that he would be prepared to offer suggestions. The server also told us that they all taste the foods being offered so that they can provide their personal experience and flavors.
Not only were our menus printed for us with a 'Happy 20th Anniversary' message at the top but any other server who heard about our special occasion stopped by and offered their congratulations as well.
The appetizers and main course offerings all sounded very tasteful and carefully paired with interesting ingredients. My wife had the octopus as a starter and I had the ribs. They were both cooked perfectly and offered flavors that were different and surprising. I had the NY Strip Steak. This was the most tasteful and juicy, thick cut strip steak i've ever had. It was cooked to perfection and each bite was better then the last.
We were beyond satiated but, i had to try a dessert. It was very good but beyond what I could eat at the time.
I didn't mention the decor and comfort. For a party of two, we expected to be pushed into a corner at a narrow table. Instead, we were seated in over-stuffed and over sized seats. The decor was modern and noise levels minimized due to the use of acoustic ceiling tiles and soft surfaces.
We will absolutely come back to Pairings for another occasion and have already recommended the restaurant to a number of friends.
