If your surroundings don't clue you in, your first glance at the menu will. Painted Pony is not your standard fare. Contemporary American cuisine evidently doesn't mean just another good steakhouse, and the simply written food descriptions promise something new and intriguing for your palate.
The Painted Pony has perfected the fine art of using fresh ingredients and delicate flavoring. An exceptional wine list, generous portions, attentive service, and reasonable prices will convince you to return to "the Pony" anytime you're in St. George.
The Painted Pony is reliably year in and year out the best restaurant in St George. Over the years we’ve had most of the entries and never been unsatisfied. If one has the option of going there don’t pass it up.
My very favorite restaurant in all of St. George ❤️
The Painted Pony has always been one of our favorite restaurants. The food has always been over the top along with the presentation, service and ambiance. It’s where we always take special guests because of these factors. Having said that, the last time we went the food was not quite as good. They’ve changed some of their plate combinations that aren’t as good as they previously were. Could be a new chef with different ideas but if it’s not broken, why fix it. All other factors were excellent but I hate to see the quality of the food decline. We ordered the Caesar salad and they basically cut into the core of the lettuce and stuck a piece of cheese into it. Basically it was just core and shredded lettuce. Dressing was a poor Caesar, very disappointing. Main dishes were good but the sides were weak at best. Because of it past performance we will try it again and hope it was just an off night.
I'll start out by saying that the quality of the food was extremely good, perfectly cooked and well presented. What really made our evening (it was our anniversary) was the service. Our server, John, was fantastic. He was attentive but never bothersome or interrupting. He was kind and funny and also knowledgable of the origins of our food and wine at an artisanal level. Neither my wife nor I had our water run out or poured a glass of wine (and we finished the bottle), yet I only remember the initial pour. That is how well John and his staff made our experience was what I had hoped it would be. We were there for about two hours and I never felt any pressure to finish up. I would highly recommend giving this amazing menu and experience a try. To John and his team, thank you!
My favorite restaurant anywhere. I always visit it when I’m in Saint George. It never fails.
The Painted Pony is one of the best restaurants I’ve visited bar none. The food and service is consistently great and the atmosphere is conducive for personal or business meals.
I had been to Painted Pony for lunch with a friend over a year ago and was so impressed, I couldn’t stop raving about the food to my husband. Finally, my sweetheart took me to Painted Pony for an early Valentine’s Day dinner. I had talked so much about their signature soup (jalapeño carrot)-yes, it sounds so wrong, but you’ll never doubt again once you try it-and we both enjoyed the soup and an incredible meal to go with it. The atmosphere is almost like having an incredible meal while sitting in an incredible art gallery. The waitstaff is professional and friendly, and experienced with the menu all at once. The quality of the food along with the whole experience totally justifies paying a little bit more for your evening. That said, the pricing is fair and a great deal for the quality. Don’t miss the opportunity to sit in downtown St George amidst historical buildings and awesome artwork and enjoy a truly memorable dining experience.
Great place for a romantic birthday dinner, food and drinks wonderful
Beautiful, quiet and luxurious setting with unique gourmet food that was delicious as well as artfully presented. A very special dining experience where we were treated like royalty. We will return at our next opportunity.
Very nice restaurant with good food...my only complaint was the wine pour was inadequate....for the price of the dinners the pour should be more generous. Otherwise, a very good meal.
Amazing food and ambiance .Service was excellent and staff very friendly
The Ahi tuna noodle dish is wonderful.
Ribeye steak delish but the sides I chose Mac and cheese and roasted potatoes were underwhelming.
I wish they would put a little extra thought into those sides because I barely ate them and threw out the to go box when I got to my hotel.
Service great like usual.
Mac and cheese was dry and no flavor. Roasted potatoes no flavor just bland.
We’ve been visiting this restaurant for many years and I wish they would change up the menu more.
Service was great, selection was adequate. The French onion soup had a great presentation as well as the cheesecake, very unique. On some dishes we ordered, it seems it could have been a little simpler presentation like the duck and hanger steak with the truffle cut potato. Each dish including the filet were cooked to perfection and seasoned/marinated well. Would highly recommand and will return in the future.
I just love the Painted Pony! They always make each dining experience special. The service is always on point and the food never disappoints. We had the pleasure of having Kelly as our server. She recommended a Raspberry Tom Collins. I wouldn’t have probably tried it but I will get it again. It was delicious.
It was just the perfect place to go on a rainy night for a bowl of carrot jalapeño soup, fresh baked bread, and a juicy steak.
I think this is the best restaurant in St George. We visit St George a few times a year and go to Painted Pony on our last night. The bread is baked daily and is amazing. Some things we have enjoyed are the soups, the beet salad and the heirloom tomato salad. The beef tenderloin is excellent as is the rack of lamb. I recently enjoyed the lamb shank. The chef does a wonderful job of combining ingredients and seasonings. We always request Kelly as our server. She is great.
As always, the food is delicious, the service is excellent, the staff is so friendly. My favorite!
Painted Pony is the place to go in St George. Wonderful menu, good place to see people and great food. Service in first class. Sandwiches can be made as a wrap. Also, one can choose half salad and half fries with sandwiches
The lamb pot pie is amazing, the hanger steak sauce was a little much we ended up removing it, but overall it was a great food experience
Everything was as close to perfect as possible. Great food, great staff and beautiful location.
All servers were polite and professional. Our main server knew the ins & outs of the menu and was helpful in making a selection. My Dad & I shared the quail appetizer. He had the seared Ahi and I had the tenderloin. In the top 5 steaks of my 50+ years of eating such things. Flavorful and extremely tender. The French Onion soup we both had was perfect. A lot of times they can be salty but this one had a depth of flavor like none I've had before. Perfect score all around.
Best restaurant in St George. Service has always been great, food is excellent, top notch ambience and a very good wine list. I go there frequently.
Wonderful service and excellent food in a beautiful setting! It is no wonder that the Painted Pony is our favorite restaurant in Saint George. They definitely have one of the very best staff of any restaurant we have visited.
My favorite restaurant in St.George, Painted Pony has exceptional food and excellent service always!
We (a party of 4) all ordered the ribeye steak. Although the steaks were large, tender, and had good flavor, the amount of eatable meat on each varied significantly. One steak was extremely fatty with little eatable meat on it. Two steaks were moderately fatty with with about two-thirds of eatable meat on them. The remaining steak was of the quality we expected of all four, some fat with about 85 percent eatable meal on it.
New Years Eve lunch! It was very pleasant and the food was amazing as always!
Great food excellent service. We were pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. Good value. We had the ribeye and the tenderloin.
A wonderful lunch on Christmas Eve! We had a great welcome from the hostess, Kim, and great service from Dominick. We had the salmon salad, turkey club, and special soup - all were superb. Service and food are always excellent at the Painted Pony - our favorite restaurant in Southern Utah.
Service as usual was impeccable. Kudos to Dominic. Also Kim (maitre d') is the best!!!
Overall experience is wonderful. The filet mignon was exceptional....perfectly cooked and presented with delicious potatoes and asparagus. Service is top notch! This is our fourth visit and there will be many more.
has been our favorite st. george restaurant for over 6 years, since retiring here.
great hostess, kim. great somm/server , john. they always make us feel special
and appreciated. wonderful staff. needless to say, we are regulars. best restaurant
in all of sgu.
A wonderful lunch with good friends at the Painted Pony! Hostess, Kim, greeted our guests, making them feel comfortable and glad to be dining with us. Dominick, our server, provided information about specials and gave us excellent service throughout our meal. As usual, the food was superb - great meatloaf, salads, soup and a good salmon club special! It is always delightful to share this excellent restaurants with our friends and family.
Food was okay. There was no recommendations from the waitress. Had to ask for my water to be refilled. Which was to not make any suggestions for dessert therefore we did not order
Probably the most unique fine dining experience in St. George. The city has a lot of chain restaurants so it is a nice change to go to a locally owned unique establishment. It is located in the heart of St. George and the ambiance is very nice. I've dined here several times and I've never had a bad experience
Been there many times. Consistently excellent ingredient quality and preparation. Attentive and unobtrusive service. Easy parking.
Some recent tasteful renovations.
We absolutely love this restaurant, food and staff but we’d love it even more if it had vegetarian and vegan options.
Dinner was marvelous and our wait staff were the best! Try the trout cakes!!! Unfortunately, the table next to us had a very loud talker....only negative of a really special night.
Excellent meal, great wine list, overall a fantastic place to have a nice evening out. Our food was beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful.
As always the food was exceptional, the service was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. They also have a very good wine selection and a full bar. I am a frequent visitor to the Painted Pony because of their high standards in all categories. I usually spend a couple of hours their enjoying all aspects of my visit. Highly recommended.
Absolutely Fantastic in every way
A nice restaurant that aspires to be great. The food is all good, but overworked. Simpler, more familiar plates, done to perfection would be welcome.
