Paco's Tacos & Tequila Ratings and Reviews
I am a regular customer here, and have never been this disappointed. Usually the salsa and chip refills are on point and always full. However, this time we only received one salsa and one bowl of chips for six people. We had to ask for more and two of each. The second problem came when the food arrived. Everyone received their food, except one person. We had to wait 7 minutes for the waitress to come over and even notice the food was still missing. After that, someone realized that their simple combo meal was completely messed up. Again, waiting over 15 minutes for the waitress she proceeded to eat the food. Also, my peppers and onions were cold and my quesadilla was not warm at all. Furthermore, the vegetable fajitas did not come out sizziling. If 1-2 things had not gone our way I would not be this mad. But I have never wasted so much money on a terrible meal. The least thing that could have been done is honor the completely messed up meal. Instead we still paid full price for something we did not want. I love pacos tacos, but this makes me want to find a new place.
The service was terrific and the bowl was very good...but the enchiladas left a lot to be desired. They were soft and the filling was tasteless. The crema was not a good component for this. We would not order this again and in fact it tainted the whole experience for us.
I had high hopes for this restaurant. However, my food came out cold and the server seemed despondent. The food was cooked again but they sent out the wrong food and the rice and beans were still cold. Almost like they were the same grime the previous plate.
We were there on a Friday night. We had a reservation for 6:00 but still had to wait 30 minutes for our table. The manager did keep telling us they were waiting for a table to open us so we did not feel like they had forgotten us. I had the tacos and ask for no lettuce but when my food arrived there was lettuce on both tacos. I did not say anything just ate them anyway. There were a couple other mistakes with the orders at our table. We were a party of 5 and 3 of us had our orders wrong. We told our waitress a couple things that were wrong and they never got corrected. I would not go out of my way to eat here when there are a ton of other Tex Mex places in Charlotte to go to. But the food was good. Service just ok.
I am a repeat customer for good reason. The staff is always prompt, friendly, and knowledge about the menu with great recommendations. I am a sucker for the green salsa (lil' tangy than the red salsa). My favorite meals so far are the Brisket and Al Pastor tacos with the charro beans, and the Too Big Chopped Taco Salad (very generous portion size! You could actually sure this dish with another person.) I normally compliment my meals with their lively Rusty El Camino. They need to bottle that drink and sell it in stores, for real!!!
We were concerned about moving to Charlotte, NC and not finding good Mexican food (even Americanized Mexican food.) This place was a great find! The food is fantastic and just as important is the fantastic service. We've been here four times now in the last three months. It's always packed, but the staff is nonetheless attentive and tries hard to stay on top of everything. Every time after ordering a margarita, our waiter/waitress has asked a couple of questions about what we like about margaritas and then recommended a special one that meets our preferences or that they think we might like (and we have!) They always apologize if they feel we aren't getting what we need/want as quickly as we should because they are busy. We never see the wait staff just standing around chatting with each other or texting on their phones as we've seen at so many other places. Also, the portion sizes are just right -- not heaping platefuls but well worth the money.
Pacos Tacos is good but not great! As native Texans, we are particular about our TexMex and they do a pretty decent job of getting it right. The chips are too thick (thin like Chili's would be good) and they need to find thinner crispier chips and not be so frugal with the salsa. The Enchiladas Dennis are my favorite but tried the Pork Carnitas and they were really good. The Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita was very tasty. Its a vey decent place for a Mexican food fix.
The Cadillac margarita was excellent. They make their own sour mix so it wasn't totally sugar. Meals were well proportioned and great tasting. We were there with friends and stayed much longer than a simple meal. Wait staff was very accommodating and did not pressure us to flip the table. (we made up for it in the tip).
