Packrat Louie Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
We had a very underwhelming experience here. Our server seemed genuinely uninterested in serving us- he delivered a drink with curtled milk and just told my husband to stir it in- then repeatedly ignored us trying to get his attention. Finally he came to ge the drink and didn’t inquire if he wanted another drink- a few minutes later just drops off a new drink menu with no words and walks off. Our appetizers were good. I had Poke while my husband enjoyed some ribs. Our dinner itself was bland. A steak and shrimp and grits. The entire time our server was mia until of course it was time to pay and then he decided it was time to chat up a storm. I was annoyed I tipped him although to give him some credit- he didn’t make the drink and we didn’t see an abundance of staff on the floor. $130 ish plus tip and we left disappointed.
I had the zucchini noodle dish. Although it was ok . I would not have it again
I did not enjoy the cold tomato paste on around the edge of the bowl. I had a similar
dish at Beauty and Essence in New York and it was outstanding . Lots of room for improvement
as the first dish on the Entree menu. But this is just me
I had received a gift card for Packrat after missing a team building dinner there. My mom was in town so I thought I would treat her this time! We booked a reso on open table, arrived a little early but they were able to accommodate us. The waitresses were top notch, polite, friendly, on top of everything. They had a good wine list, I had to try something new and I loved it. Our food came within a good time and it was delicious. We shared shrimp and grits with PICKLED WATERMELON (omg soooo good) and the mushroom artichoke olive pizza (my favourite combo so I was very happy to see this option). The whole meal was perfect and I cannot wait to go back!
Our group of 6 really enjoyed our visit. The funky upscale warehouse style room had high ceilings, and on a busy evening the noise level was moderate. Our server had just the right combo of being efficient and friendly. The food was spectacular. Between two of us we shared 4 small plates and each one was inventive and downright tasty. The standouts were the grilled octopus - amazingly tender, and the lamb ribs - amazingly delicious.
I have been to Packrat Louie Kitchen & Bar multiple times over the years. The last few times the food was disappointing but I heard there was a new chef so I thought I would try it again.
The server was prompt and efficient.
The menu has an array of items but there are many listed that did not appeal to anyone at my table. The tomato pearl salad for $11.00 was completely void of taste and the’burnt’ bread was ‘burnt with a torch making it inedible. The Spicy Hawaiian pizza was very average.
Unfortunately, I will not be returning.
This was my second time there and the first time was incredible and the food was amazing so I was very surprised and disappointed my second time as I anticipated something equal if not better than my first experience and sadly it was not the case.
Really unique menu. I start with the shrimp and scallop small plate. The scallops were perfect! Then had the shrimp and grits. Never had grits before. But it was awesome. Didn't think the sausage went well with this dish though. Would have been better with roast veggies. Overall was a very satisfying meal. Will be back for sure! Want to try the former pizzas next. 👍
We have visited Packrat Louie's on several occasions prior to the change in the menu. We love the ambience in the building and the lounge for a drink prior to dinner. We miss the previous menu but looked forward to our meal. The meal was good but the steak I had was slightly overcooked and my wife's beef was chewy.
We were there on a Tuesday night so maybe that factored into the state of the meal and the service. Our waitress was polite but we felt that she wasn't a well trained waitress but rather a server who was pressed into service.
We did like it but it did not live up to the last two experiences we had there.
This has been one of my faves in Edmonton for years! Never disappoints, food is eclectic and always has new items and flavours.
My only concern this time was parking! Always could get street parking, but now with the bike lane change they seem to have lost 8 great parking spots😖
The place was busy which was understandable considering the fringe was going however the food prep couldn't keep up with the demand so food took a long time. The waiter also seemed to have too many table and large groups so our table of two went rather unnoticed. I would not go back on a busy night.
We have mixed feelings woth our experience. We were disappointed in the service. Major lack of attentiveness, the restaurant was not busy - it being a Saturday night. We were rushed. We tend to take a couple hours to dine and allow our food to digest in between meals. We were not even finished our appetizers when our mains came. Therefore, leaving us feeling rushed, annoyed and not having enough time to enjoy ourselves. Our drinks were served in a timely fashion. The food was absolute top notch! The carpaccio was outstanding while the lambs ribs left us wanting more. Our mains were phenomenal! The shrimp and grits were a hit! A beautiful helping of those giant prawns with the surprising pickled watermelon - which was my favorite. Those grits were creamy, rich and delectable. My husband had one of the pizzas and said it was the best he's ever had. The Brussels sprouts we had to have as an extra with our mains - perfectly charred and with boar bacon? More please! It was a special occasion and we were celebrating a birthday. If the service was where it should have been - we would have left impressed and happier with our experience. Hopefully next time it'll be better.
All the food we ordered, mains and dessert was excellent. Salmon was perfectly prepared and the shrimp & grits with two kinds of andouille sausage was very tasty. Desserts were interesting and nicely presented. Service was friendly, attentive and informative.
Great as in the past. Love their new renovations, new lights, floors, washrooms, & barn wood wall decore, not to mention very professional waiters and tasty food. Price is a little high for lunch but then you get what you pay for.
Will have to try evening dinner soon.
First time back to the restaurant in a year. I found the menu items to be a bit contrived, but I understand you have to keep up with the marketplace. Unfortunately, as a long time client who has eaten here many times over the last 20 years or so, I no longer feel comfortable in the venue.
First time returning since the new menu. Liked the old one better. Had the fish special (rubbery) and the veg (sea asparagus?) was coated in a green spicy sauce which wasn't mentioned in the verbal description. When asked what it was, the server left to find out and never returned with an answer. Same thing had happened with the bruchetta she suggested to go with the appie - seafood nest. Nest was too greasy to eat and certainly not crispy as advertised. Bruchetta never showed. Dessert - chocolate tart - was spectacular. Service was very pleasant all through but a bit lacking as mentioned, especially when 18% is starting point for tipping. New menu is a copy of what's available everywhere else. Aoli this and chili that. It was perfect before. Patio is awesome, however.
