Pacific Coast Grill - Cardiff Ratings and Reviews
The mixed drinks were not good at all. We had 4 drinks at our table and 3 of the four were disappointed with the flavor and quality of the drinks. The meal was average at best. The waitress and staff were very nice and accommodating. In fact we shared our displeasure with one of the drinks and she quickly replaced the drink with another. The view is what made us pick the Grill and the view was outstanding. Don't go for the food or drink but the staff and ocean view are remarkable.
Since we are moving to Encinitas, we thought we would give it a try. Very happy to have done so. Calamari and Crabcake appetizers were really very good. The Paella was amazing. My wife had the Sea Bass and that was fresh too. Most of all, the server was incredibly attentive. Very strong first experience
Spending Thanksgiving Week in La Jolla, we researched ocean side restaurants and, based on the reviews, we selected PCG as one of our choices. I was looking forward to the Seafood Cobb. It was one of my favorites at Anthony's, when they were at the Harbor. This Cobb did not measure up in any way to what I was expecting. Green salad with, what appeared to be, shaved crab (?) or lobster (?). There were three nicely seared shrimp, which were placed nicely around the plate. My husband order a hamburger, which he said was "ok, but nothing special." We had a delightful window seat and the waitress was polite. However, the noise level was high. THERE ARE TOO MANY GOOD SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS in this area to make a trip to Cardiff. But, you never know!
We come often to Pacific Coast Grill and have told others about it as well. However, the last time we were there, we found out they will no longer serve our favorite entrée. The salmon with pea pods and topped with cucumbers is by far the best salmon dish we have ever eaten, and we go there specifically for that dish. We are thoroughly disappointed that we will not be able to get it again.
I've been a regular patron of this restaurant since 1983 (when its name was Charlie's) and have celebrated many, many special occasions there.
Friday night 11/10/17 I'd reserved a table for 6 celebrating a birthday. Was surprised to see how few patrons were present. We were seated immediately and enjoyed the truly excellent service.
We ordered appetizers, beverages, main course and dessert. All were promptly served and well presented. On the way home a frank discussion about the meal that revealed that the food was nothing to brag about and somewhat disappointing. Possibly explains either a bad night for the chef or the absence of a crowd.
Over the years I've recommended Pacific Coast Grill as a favorite to everyone seeking a good dining experience. I can't anymore.
Service was good and of course view was beautiful, but foos quality was poor. Guacamole was lacking flavor. Tortilla chips tasted like oil that has been in your pantry for too long. Ahi was not good quality. They put crab in the Rainbow roll but crab was not mentioned on the menu. Rice of sushi roll tasted like I got it from a grocery store. Sorry I’m too much of a foodie to pay all that money just for the view
