Pacific Coast Grill - Cardiff Ratings and Reviews
We come often to Pacific Coast Grill and have told others about it as well. However, the last time we were there, we found out they will no longer serve our favorite entrée. The salmon with pea pods and topped with cucumbers is by far the best salmon dish we have ever eaten, and we go there specifically for that dish. We are thoroughly disappointed that we will not be able to get it again.
I've been a regular patron of this restaurant since 1983 (when its name was Charlie's) and have celebrated many, many special occasions there.
Friday night 11/10/17 I'd reserved a table for 6 celebrating a birthday. Was surprised to see how few patrons were present. We were seated immediately and enjoyed the truly excellent service.
We ordered appetizers, beverages, main course and dessert. All were promptly served and well presented. On the way home a frank discussion about the meal that revealed that the food was nothing to brag about and somewhat disappointing. Possibly explains either a bad night for the chef or the absence of a crowd.
Over the years I've recommended Pacific Coast Grill as a favorite to everyone seeking a good dining experience. I can't anymore.
Service was good and of course view was beautiful, but foos quality was poor. Guacamole was lacking flavor. Tortilla chips tasted like oil that has been in your pantry for too long. Ahi was not good quality. They put crab in the Rainbow roll but crab was not mentioned on the menu. Rice of sushi roll tasted like I got it from a grocery store. Sorry I’m too much of a foodie to pay all that money just for the view
BUT this time it was a real disappointment
started fine but then some friends of our server were seated in our area and the rest of the evening she talked to them, her back to us and her other tables
had to flag her to order, never asked about our food (scallops were over cooked and rubbery, sea bass was on a no sodium diet), flag her again to get our check
Was here recently to celebrate my birthday with my family. While the view/location is spectacular, we were somewhat disappointed with the service and food. We ordered the Cardiff Reef Roll as a shared appetizer and it was awesome! Both my daughter and I had the Ahi Poke Bowls and my son and Husband had the 'Bag of Bones'. There was nothing special about the Poke Bowl, was fresh and tasted good. I have had better and for a LOT less $$. The ribs were dry and not impressive. Fries are not worth mention :(.
We made the reservations for a Birthday Celebration and there was no mention of it. Our waiter was nice but it really felt rushed...like maybe he was being spread too thin.
Might go there again to have a cocktail and appetizer outside but I will save my $$ for Dinner elsewhere.
So disappointed in Pacific Coast Grill. I was one of my husband and my favorites when we travel annually to the San Diego area. The menu is now very pricey even for the Kung Pao Shrimp and filet Mignon. It was overpowered with soy sauce and I couldn't taste the crushed peanuts. The vegetables were also disappointing in the dish with only peppers and onions, no other such as water chestnuts. My husband also had a very expensive seafood pasta that was just average tasting. Our friends did have the Mahi Mahi and enjoyed their dish. The bread pudding for dessert was tasty albeit a bit dry. Overall disappointing.
While the food was great, I was a bit disappointed in the service. We had requested a nice table to celebrate a 30th anniversary with our out of town guests. Even though I made this specific request, our table had an obstructed view and no one mentioned or asked about our special occasion. Also, we didn't see our server after placing our order as she was assigned to larger group. So from the beginning we felt like we were more of an inconvenience and it was a bit of a let down.
Everyone from the valet (only $5) to the waitress excellent customer service. The prices were reasonable, the food was excellent, and the view of the beach was perfect. Took family who is from an area with no ocean. They were very impressed. Will definitely return here.
When we arrived the restaurant was very busy and we were informed that our seating would be delayed a little. I checked back about 15 minutes later and the hostess said it wasn't quite ready. While we waited at the bar the manager came over and apologized for the wait and said he wanted to buy us an appetizer for the inconvenience. This was the beginning of a great experience. We were seated about 5 minutes later and our server appeared almost immediately and also apologized for the wait. The food runner also apologized! They were all very friendly & efficient. The food was excellent. The staff turned what could have been a poor experience into one that delighted all four of us! Bravo!
The restaurant was so loud that we couldn't even talk to the person sitting closest to us. That made it pretty miserable by the end of the evening because it was a bit exhausting.
The location is spectacular and the food very good. However, I won't go there in the evening with others unless I sit outside. It's sad because there is so much good about this place.
