Food was delicious, but atmosphere is very outdated and ambience mediocre. Waited over 15 minutes to get the attention of the hostess to seat us (with a reservation). Minimal vegetarian options.
Main restaurant at Turtle Bay closed for renovations so Pa’akai operating as family restaurant and revised menu. Lots of small children in restaurant so currently not fine dining.
The service was impeccable and the food delicious. They had a well balanced wine menu as well and of course the view is spectacular. We were there for sunset.
Excellent Food and Service !! Highly recommended!
Disappointed! Not high end dining experience. The service felt like we were at a diner. Requests were forgotten, the vegetarian dish came with bacon, dishes were not cleared, clean silverware was not provided after first course. The food was so-so. I had the macadamia nut crusted mahi but there was no crust, just a fine dusting on am undercooked small piece of fish.
So disappointed to spend $$$ and get poor service and mediocre food. I wrote to the hotel about the poor experience and never even received a response. Save your money and go to A food truck for far better food.
I took my wife to Pa’akai for our 45th anniversary which also happens to be Valentine’s Day. We usually avoid going out because V-Day is famous for high prices, low quality and poor service. But we were doing mini vacation at Turtle Bay Resort and decided to check it out.
Short story: food was good to very good and our server was also good. Neither great but exceeded our VDay expectations. My wife had the Butter Lettuce salad and the grilled ahi both of which she loved. I had the sesame ahi tatake and the Huli Huli chicken with a pineapple slaw which was also very good.
So at the end of the day we were happy in spite of rocky start. Because it was our 45th I requested a table with a view explaining why. I then called a couple days prior to make sure they got message. My problem was that I had never been to this restaurant before so I did not realize that most inside tables have good views of the beach and ocean but the prime tables are outside. When we arrived for our 6 o’clock reservation, I asked if we could have table outside and the hostess said they were al gone - first come first serve. I asked why they take reservations weeks in advance if the best tables go to who ever shows up first. She just shrugged her shoulders and said I had a long wait if I wanted one of the outside tables. I acknowledge that my request was not specific but I was still left with a bitter aftertaste because of the indifference of the hostess. Next time I will just go to the Roy’s at Turtle Bay which is a known.
Was surprised how long it took for our drinks and food to come out considering it was not busy at all (a random Wednesday in the winter). Also VERY pricey, which was on par with the theme of the resort, but not sure if the quality reflected it. Good, not amazing
Birthday dinner. Whole fish was amazing. Highly recommend
We've lived here for 2 1/2 years but haven't gone to Pa'akai now because of the mixed reviews. Our mistake!!! The service was incredible, gorgeous ocean sunset views, drinks were strong and cold and the food was AMAZING!! Valet for as long as you'd like for $10 and a gorgeous walk around the ocean after dinner. 500 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tiger was one of the best servers we've had on island keeping it real and cold drinks coming. My husband had a half rack of ribs and said they rivaled southern mainland ribs melting in his mouth. I enjoyed every delicious bite of my huli huli chicken, asparagus and rice. Mia tais were none of the best on island, live music from the bar below and the sunset was simply perfection! We'll be back! Mahalo nui loa!!
The whole fried fish is excellent and could be shared by 2 if you have salad or appetizer
When one is a single it's often difficult getting a table that isn't small and up against a wall. That was the case during one breakfast. Although there were very nice, very available tables available. When I persisted, I was told there would be at least a 10 minute wait. The table I eventually sat at was always available and didn't need to be bused. I ordered Eggs Benedict, juice, and coffee. The poached eggs were under cooked and so slimy it was difficult to eat with a fork. The waitress brought the check with the food and never came by again to warm up or refill the coffee.
That evening I had reservations that I made several weeks in advanced. I informed the reservationist it was my birthday and I would appreciate a window table. I reminded the Vista-level concierge three days before my reservation of that fact and she informed me she would let them know. When I showed for 6pm reservation I was told there were no window seats available but I could sit outside. I did. I ordered the NY ribeye with prawns, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms. The steak was NOT well prepared. Not cooked to order and EXTREMELY salty. The mushrooms were rubbery and the mashed potatoes were luke-warm. I never complained to the waitress and she was very nice. Clearly no-one knew it was my birthday. So it goes.
Such a disappointment. I had one cocktail before dinner which was tasty. The bill came to $98 and I left $120.
I have no intention of returning and going through that again.
Had great service! Beautiful outdoor view! Would go again.
The service and outdoor ambiance was wonderful. The inside is dated but we hear they have plans to remodel. Also since this is the resort’s nicest restaurant and they have a surfer bar and pool bar there shouldn’t be tv’s in this restaurant because it makes it feel like a sports bar and not reflective of a special occasion dinner restaurant. Once again the food and service were excellent.
We said on Open Table that it was our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Hoping for a nice table. Didn’t even get a table by the window. Were sat in a noisy area.
I ordered an 8 oz filet and they got my order wrong. Brought out this humongous steak that was well done in some spots and raw in others.
Waitress brought out a small dessert on the house to help us celebrate but didn’t really care by that point.
These establishments need to realize that people are spending thousands of dollars to stay here and their service needs to reflect that
Food was spectacular! Macadamia crusted mahi mahi was the best fish I think I have ever had at a restaurant.
Food quality was good, though it definitely had misleading reviews. By no means was this an elevated dining experience. Our server had to be prompted several times and it was extremely loud. Considering the lack of restaurant options at Turtle Bay I guess it was worthwhile.
Server was excellent. Food was very good.
Meh - took 5 minutes to see a server. Food was ok. But ambiance stinks!
This place is really good, especially for a restaurant inside a hotel. But what really made the entire experience amazing was our server,. We met him the first night and he recommended some local places. We ended up seeing him at one of those places the next day. Then when we get back on our final
Excellent food. Great Service, great view of sunset. The marlin dip was really good. The lilikoi crème Brule dessert was excellent
New Years eve
Bartender (Mike) was outstanding! He really entertained us.
Worst dining experience. Waited 15 minutes to be seated when we had reservations and tables were left open. Then finally ordered after another 30 minutes of waiting. Everyone around us was served including people who came way after us. W waited over 1 hour to get our food. The beat part the waitress messed up the bill and never ran the card so for the ne t two hours they hounded us by phone because she forgot to run the card a second time. Terrible!
Loved it! Great view! Delicious food!
Really slow service. Had reservations and still had to wait. Waited 15 minutes just have server say hi. Maybe they were short staffed. Food was ok. View is amazing.
Celebrated our 10th anniversary here on our vacation. Staff were excellent in attending to us and helping us celebrate. The food was amazing on both nights we ate here. A little on the pricey side, but for a special night out, this was our spot.
Went for Christmas Eve Dinner with my husband and I. Food and drinks were amazing, but service was poor. Our waitress rarely checked on us and it took a long time to get our drinks. We understand that it was a Holiday but it did seem like service was slow. We did get a table outside and enjoyed the ocean view and warm breeze, and since we had eachother we were not in a hurry. Despite the slow service, we had a great time.
We were originally sat by the door leading outside, but it was very windy. When we brought our concerns to the staff the quickly reseated us. The entire evening was wonderful. Service was top notch. Highly recommend for a nice dinner.
Breathtaking view! Good service.
Celebrated my birthday here. Food was good, we were able to have filet even though it wasn’t on the menu. The restaurant combined with a more casual restaurant that was closed for renovations so the menu changed to a much less elegant, very casual selection. We were visiting and I made these reservations a month in advance but was never notified of the change from upscale to casual do it was a bit disappointing. We come to North Shore annually and like to have dinner at Roy’s and your restaurant at least once during our trip. We hope once renovation is complete you will return to your fine dining experience.
A complete disappointment. If you want to sit and not be waited on then this is the place for you! Don’t order any drinks unless you don’t mind waiting 20-30 minutes. To top it off we received cold food and a $200 bill.
Pa Akai used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Recently they have changed their menu and it is a disaster. The ambience and the service are still excellent; however, the new menu concept leaves a lot to be desired. Please return to your original concept and menu. The new concept is a black eye on the Turtle Bay Resort
We did not enjoy our experience at Pa’akai. My wife and I were celebrating our 5 year anniversary and we’re looking forward to a nice meal at our resort. All of the food was subpar at best, and the restaurant had the vibe of a decent hotel bar from the 80s. We ordered the Tuna appetizer and it came with 5 slices of meat, all of which were drenched in some sort of Aioli. We also ordered the sushi roll, and the portions of rice were much larger than anything I’ve had previously. The service was fine, but not anything stellar. We went to Roy’s (also at turtle bay) the night after and had a much better experience. Highly recommend that for your dinner option if you’re staying at the resort.
Great place to celebrate an Anniversary!!’
Good food, great ambience
Our server was pleasant and efficient. The lettuce for the shared lettuce wrap appetizer was partly wilted. Both my chicken and my partner’s fish were over cooked and dry. The wine list was off the charts expensive although we found a nice NZ Sauve Blanc for $48.
Loved the food and atmosphere.
We made a reservation for brunch ....and got there to find out on a Sunday they were no longer serving BRUNCH .... Never got to eat after driving an hour from the other side of the island
Not loving the new menu. And an updated menu online would be really helpful. Staff was great. Just hated the menu. Seems like there is the same type of things on every menu in the resort. Would love to see some variety. Right now it just seems like everything is asian fusion. Everything.
