Oystercatchers Ratings and Reviews
The view is great and it has good ambiance. The food is good and the service is excellent. It is a restaurant where you can carry on a conversation and hear the other person. The bad news is that it is expensive. For two of us with each having a cocktail, a bottle of wine ($99), split an appetizer, two dinner entrees’ and split a dessert, we spent all in, $285. This is a little pricey since we are Tampa Florida, not New York. Parking however, is complimentary.
What happened to this restaurant? We were a group of six. The waiter brought water, but did not ask about what kind of water we'd prefer (sparkling, perhaps).
The appetizers were reasonable (clams and oysters), and the waiter seemed to try to indicate that we should know that the shrimp were 'very large', but at least he allowed our party to decide how many we'd like.
Three of us ordered tuna, but it seemed that the chef could not decide how to prepare it. It was ordered rare, and at best, was medium. There was no "crust"...just bland grey color. It was served with ginger, wasabi, and soy on the side with chopsticks, but wasn't "ahi" style, so couldn't figure out what that was all about. One of our party ordered the tuna "composed", but the waiter brought an incorrect version of the tuna. It was re-plated, but it was obvious that the fish was just 'dumped' on the plate.
The whole snapper was a surprise to one guest; it was served whole...with a crust, head and tail, and the waiter should have explained what it was going to look like. The scallops were 'fair'.
Desserts were limited, and just not what we expected. Water for tea was tepid.
Overall, not what we expected from this restaurant.
I feel your menu for the $55 brunch fell short. I expected crab legs or at least crab cakes. We were put in a side room butted up against the servers quarters. I felt like we were in a back room. Everyone was so noisy - it was not like the last time we were there. We usually recommend your establishment to our out of town guest for a superb brunch. I was disappointed. Will still to lunch and dinner only.
The food was good and the view was great. But what made it not a top notch experience was the service. It seemed that the staff did not care about service or were not trained. Rushing to get our order , not clearing the table , just dropping the bread in front of you as if saying here. I wanted to love the place but with a staff that is giving half there effort I feel I couldn’t.
Been to Oyster Catchers many times. Seem to have lost their mojo. Ordered the most expensive seafood tower on the menu. Food was brought out on plates without ice. Everything was room temperature. Had a bad set of oysters, which we had them take back. They attempted to make it good at the end, which was nice. Unfortunately it wasn't the bday dinner I intended.
This is a top spot in the Tampa area! Oyster Catchers has it all from our standpoint- lovely setting, water and sunset view, each dish was exceptionally good. we focused on seafood- the chilled shrimp cocktail were huge and juicy, oysters , seafood mixed grill and grouper were great. Our server Max was knowledgeable, friendly but not overbearing. The setting is wood, stone, very pretty- like California contemporary. Its priced for special occasions or business, but well worth it!
Disappointed in food and service. The waiter got my order wrong and when the right order came out the scallops were a bit like warm. The rice was very dry.
Waiter was slow which made the meal a little longer than we wanted.
This has been a Tampa favorite of ours but not tonight
You can’t beat the view but the food was just ok and overpriced in our opinion. We had very high expectations as first time patrons. My wife had the mahi mahi, grilled, and I had the salmon sautéed in butter. The mahi mahi tasted like it wasn’t even salted. For $30 plus a plate, grilled fish should taste flavorful without relying on butter or a ton of seasoning. We’ve had much better seafood for much less elsewhere. Will not be going again anytime soon.
The restaurant is beautiful, the view is beautiful, the food is delicious albeit fairly expensive, esp. a glass of wine. We would not have minded that if it were not for the fact that the restaurant is so loud you have to shout for the person across from you to hear you. Even our waitress had to move about the table raising her voice in order for everyone to hear what she was saying.
I have never been disappointed when I have dined at Oystercatchers. I love to take out of town friends and family here as the food is great, but so is the view of the bay. My request to be seated near a window for a great view has always been honored. Service has always been top rate.
