The exceptional staff, attention to detail and personal touches keep us coming back :)
My husband and I went for an early Valentine’s Day dinner last night. I have seen the sign so many times and forget about it when I want to go out to dinner. Finally we decided to try it and I am mad at myself for not trying it sooner!!! We were greeted by Michael the bartender/Manager on Duty who was incredibly pleasant and very helpful. Parking is a little funny there so he actually walked out with me to show my husband where to park. He sat is in a great area that looked a little like a gazebo with mosquito netting which I thought was very charming. Our server, Cody I believe his name was, greeted us almost immediately. He told us the favorite items on the menu, and brought our drinks back the appetizers followed very shortly after and he took our dinner order. The food was incredible! The oysters, very fresh and delicious, the wedge salad was amazing. I love that they put a little vinegar and oil to contrast the blue cheese and the bacon was so crispy! The calamari was incredible and had some wilted spinach, capers, banana peppers and had marinara on the side. My filet for dinner was perfectly cooked med rare and had a half of a lobster tail in it which was also cooked perfectly. My husband has a NY strip with an amazing blue cheese and prosciutto cream that was so good I started dipping my food in it! Do not leave without trying their chocolate desert, I forget what it was called but it had chocolate cake, chocolate mouse, molten chocolate and was smothered in a chocolate that hardened a little as it cooled off. We were so happy with the wonderful staff, the amazing food and the ambiance! The only problem that we encountered was that the owner (I think) and an event coordinator (I think) just by hearing their conversation, were incredibly loud in their whole conversation and talking about money. Which I thought was very inappropriate in the dining room during dinner service. That kind of a conversation should not be had around guests in the dining room.
Thank you for the great comments. Michael is the best and Corey is fast becoming one of our best servers. I appreciate your comments about the food quality and service. The suf & turf is a favorite. Chocolate Decadence is exactly as you describe it!
The food was over priced and just not good at all. I would not recommend this place to anybody. The cuts of met wre mediocre at best. Very disappointing.
Show at Kirby Center
Thank you for the great rating!
The food was excellent & service was great! Definitely would recommend it for dinner!
Thank you for your great comments! Thom Greco
We walked in and there was one table taken. The ambiance was unusual in that it almost felt like an old Vegas lounge...to the point we were expecting Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to come out and do a show. But our waitress, Ajanae, and the host/bartender were extremely personable and attentive and the food.... Oh, the food! We ordered crab cakes, a dozen oysters Rockefeller, meatballs, a tuna tempura sushi roll, and a lobster cocktail....and that was just for appetizers! We also had a filet mignon au poivre, the menage a trois (filet, scallops, and lobster), and a pork cutlet parmesan. There isn't one thing we could find about any of it that we didn't like. I mean, we darn near licked our plates! We ended with a creme brulee that was as perfect as everything else. Don't let the dated interior fool you.... Everything was superb! And all of that food plus three beers and two martinis came to just a bit over $200. Definitely worth every penny!
Thank you for the great comments on food and service. We are undertaking a remodel and trust you will enjoy it! We do favor Sinatra and Dean Martin music!
Service was very good. Food was not. My salad, described as mixed greens with a ginger sesame dressing, was mostly iceberg lettuce and the dressing would have been good had it been much less watery. My husband got ravioli, which I tasted. The red sauce was boring to the point of being tasteless. Our server was wonderful and attentive, but that couldn't make up for the food, unfortunately.
Excellent wait staff!
Gentleman making drinks for us (martinis) did a top notch job!!!
GREAT Service, Food was very good. Nice variety on the menu.
The bar manager made amazing drinks and had good conversation. When we were seated is when it went downhill. The waiter was not educated on the menu and when the other couple's food came out wrong, he just stared blankly at us and just removed it from the bill. Appetizers were delicious, entrees were extremely bland. Not the same Oyster it used to be.
The "filet mignon" meatballs were inedible. Hard, dry and tasteless. Raw oysters were beautifully presented, but in fact were chewy and didn't taste fresh. The wine list included multiple wines by the glass, but the waitress said only one was currently available. Fortunately, it was the wine that I wanted. I'm sure my expectations were too high for the place, but the prices should match the quality, and they do not. It's overpriced for the mediocre quality.
Excellent--great meal--good location --theater across street-- very clean & neat-- good service
Food at Oyster was exceptional, prices were a bit high but expected at a fine dining establishment. Only negative was the service had 6pm reservations and was seated immediately. There was only one other table being served when our party of 3 arrived. We did not receive our entrees until 7:40 would not have been a problem but stated several times we had a show at 8pm. If you are not in a hurry or have plans afterwards Oyster is a must.
Excellent dining experience. Michael made my Mom’s Birthday party a memorable experience.
Food was amazing, ambiance was perfect!
Food was out of this world - the filet with wasabi was just incredible. Our server was very friendly and took great care of our table. This is one of the best restaurants I've found so far in Wilkes Barre. Just great!
We both had steak (two different versions) and both were very good. Salad to start (Caesar and a wedge salad) were also good. Service was solid with very friendly staff.
Even though they were short on staff on the day we dined, bartenders did double-duty as waiters and the service was better than most we have had in years, on par with Morton's. Food was great too.
Eat anywhere else, literally anywhere!! We never received our food (we waited 2 hours), and "Michael" is the rudest human being alive.
My husband and brother had the specialities. Both were horrible, The cheese on my husbands steak tasted as if it was spoiled. The flavor was on everything, you couldn't even scrape it off. The chef / and or manager was rude. there was only one waitress that knew what she was doing. and we never got our side dishes. the couple seated near us never got their dinners and were just told to leave because they were making a show. the chef chased them out to ay for their drinks and caught up with them in the bar. A shouting match occurred as we were walking thru...so no. I would never recommend Oyster based on food and service.
The only nice thing is that it was very quiet. The food was fair at best. I opted for one of the specials a veal dish and the veal was quite poor quality. My wifes lobster bisque, while it did have large chunks of lobster as advertised, was so salty that she couldnt even finish it. They were training a new server as well and the trainer obviously left her to her own devices far too often. They didnt even bring a pen with the check after paying with a credit card and I had to go scavenge one from the hotel desk. While not from Wilkes Barre and was in town for an event, if I ever am back, I will not visit again. The ambiance is a little dated and creepy too. Definitely not worth the price.
A group of us usually stop prior to the show at Kirby. Good food as usual. Highly recommended
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The food was excellent and at a reasonable price. Will definitely go back.
On this night, very very disappointing! On the e-mail invitation it stated chocolate desiccate menu, including chocolate covered bacon etc.. When I asked waitress , no none, not on this Valentines day weekend. Have eatin there in past, everything went as planned. left the place confused!
In the top ten meals of my life. On par with nicer restaurants across the country. Highly recommend!
Went here for a nice dinner for V-day. Worst most over priced food I’ve had in a long time! Ordered lobster bisque, so salty I couldn’t eat it; fried calamari which was ok...hard to mess that up. A salad which was ok. And the main course was the worst. Lobster was over cooked, filet was so burnt on the outside and raw on the inside(not sure how they managed that). Their ‘mixed veggies’ consisted of soggy eggplant, zucchini and cherry tomatoes. The scallops were acceptable. They also had mashed potatoes which they squished the steak into therefore soaked up the blood from the steak. Which was just wrong
Service was phenomenal- environment beautiful
The food was good; not great. The lobster in my wife's bisque was chewy and her crispy scallops were not crispy. My filet mignon was great and the side options were wonderful.
We were seated near some families with loud children on Valentine's Day evening.
The attempts at ambience were appreciated, but the place itself was very 1970's posh.
Food was only OK and the kitchen was very slow to get only OK food out to the table. Bar and service team did try to over come the kitchen challenge but stayed away from guests more than stay close during the wait
The food was great the service was spectacular definitely recommend this place
Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was okay. Drinks were fantastic.
The food isnt what it used to be. It is a beautiful place, romantic atmosphere but the food was not that great. I had chicken marsala that was not very tasty and cane out luke warm. My husband had the meatball pasta dinner. It was ok but not enough sauce on the pasta and the one meatball wasnt cooked throughout. Disappointed since it used to be much better....
service was poor on New Year's Eve. 1 hour after seating we were served our appetizers and the place was maybe 405 seated.
Another outstanding meal.
It was pleasant. Was not busy when we were there. was able to take our time
We love Oyster. Food is always excellent as well has the service (Michael is the BEST). We are usually there 2 to 3 hours. Hands down the greatest. The steaks and atmosphere beats Ruth Chris hands down! Thanks again Michael for making the night amazing!
I’ll start with the good...
1. The hostess, the 2 waitresses, and the bartender were perfect.. great personalities and very nice.
2. The atmosphere was very nice.
3. The cocktails were incredible !!!! So many choices and the presentation was spectacular.
Ok now our opinion of what we didn’t like.
1. They were out of lobster and sea bass.
It was an early Saturday evening 6:30 and there was a venue at the concert hall near the restaurant. You would think they would have had that option.
2. I ordered the filet with cheese and not sure if the cheese was supposed to be melted but it wasn’t. The steak itself was ok but the entree was on their “what we’re famous for” section. Everyone has different tastes but I didn’t like it. Again the cheese wasn’t melted, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes, and the sauce was very amateurish.
3. My fiancé ordered the stuffed haddock. It was supposed to be stuffed with crab but from what we tasted and saw it was mostly breading.
To sum it up all of the workers that waited on us were great and the service was perfect but the food was below average.
Food good, but service was poor, even though we had a reservation. There was a show at Kirby that night, but should have planned service accordingly.
Meh. Just meh.
I only ate there once, so take this as you want, but when I walked in I felt like the place was going to be good. When I was seated and started looking at the menu, I felt this place would become a new frequent dinner option when in town on business.
Anyway, I ordered the lobster soup and steak au poivre. The bread seemed stale but the lobster soup was ok, not great but ok.
I ordered my steak rare to medium rare, filet, and it came out medium well (was hard to tell when I first cut into it, which they did ask me to do to check the temperature). The outside was somewhat burnt and had way too much salt, to the point I almost didn't eat it. The cut of filet was not good, had a lot of fat. I'm a bit of a steak snob, and don't order it too much when I go out to eat because I get great meat from a store near my house and can cook it to my liking.
In closing, the ambiance was there and the menu looks like it's a great place, but the steak was not good. And for the price, of all the entrees not just this one, I wouldn't go back.
