The Oyster Club is one of the most reliable restaurants on the Midatlantic Coast when its comes to superb cuisine, a creative and well-priced wine and beer list, friendly and efficient service and - the crowning touch - the best oysters anywhere. It never fails. Go there, but please don't take our table, as if we we had to dine elsewhere in Mystic it would be a severe disappointment.
Celebrating Father’s Day with my husband and daughter. Had a wonderful lunch- delicious fresh oysters and clams, NE clam chowder and burgers. Waitstaff very professional and friendly. Our second of many visits to come.
Cool atmosphere and delicious food. Wish we had room for dessert. We look forward to next time!
The waitress Drew was awesome! She even helped keep our fuzzy baby happy.
Phenomenal food and experience!
After a day at Mystic Seaport we continued my husband's birthday celebration at The Oyster Club. It was our first time there, but TOC had been recommended by friends who, like us, enjoy farm to table experiences. We arrived early to take advantage of Happy Hour oysters and drinks. We both thought the oysters were the best we've ever had. The cocktails were creative - made with inspired combinations of herbs, fruit and spirits. I made the reservation for 5 pm, and we were given a table in a front corner with window views. While the bar became quite noisy by 5 pm, the dining room was quiet, cozy and relaxing. Service was friendly and attentive, but not rushed. I had the squid salad and he had the RI chowder. Both were delicious, as was the crusty warm bread. For entrees I had the scallops w/black lentils and he had the fluke. Wow - both dishes were outstanding-perfectly cooked and seasoned. All their desserts including ice cream are made on site. Rhubarb (in season) is something we love and several desserts incorporated it. I had a scoop of rhubarb and a scoop of nettle ice cream. Nettle!! Who would have thought it an ingredient for ice cream, but it was really good. My husband had a flourless chocolate cake with a dollop of roasted rhubarb/cardamon sauce and they brought it with a lit birthday candle on the side, but without any embarrassing fanfare (as if they intuitively knew my husband is low key regarding that kind of thing). By the time we left the dining room was quite full but the noise level was still low. We were able to talk throughout dinner without raising our voices. We thanked the chef and staff as we left, for such a memorable experience. Wish Mystic was closer to home, but we will definitely revisit The Oyster Club again.
I had a salad and the mussels bowl. I didn’t think something so simple could be one of my best meals.
Great value with half off wine. Server was very attentive and professional. Food excellent!
We had a great dinner. We were a bit taken aback as to the initial appearance of the building as
it is very " rustic" looking from the outside. That all changed with the food! Excellent. The best
mussels I have ever had! I grew up at the NJ shore so know a bit about seafood. The mussels were steamed in a coconut lemongrass broth with lime and cilantro. Outstanding! I had the pan roasted black seabass which was very good. My date had the Amaranth ( pasta ) flour orrecchiette with mushrooms, garlic, Parmigiano Reggiano and herbs that she enjoyed. I took
a taste and very flavorful dish. They make a good martini and the service was excellent. We ate in the dining room as the weather was on the chilly side. You need a reservation for the dining room. The have an upper outdoor area called The tree house that seemed active. They do not take reservations for the tree house.
Oyster club is one of our two go to restaurants on the shoreline. we always take our out of town guests there.
Fabulous meal! Unique, fresh, inventive, & tasty. From the bread, to drinks, through the meal into dessert, awesome dining experience! Thank you. We will be back!
Excellent food, the mussels were sublime, selection and quality of the oysters were very fine. Service was beyond expectations. Drew could not have been more attentive. We are eager to return.
No trip to the Mystic area of the Connecticut coast should go without dinner at the Oyster Club. The raw oysters are outstanding, and the small menu and inventive. Service is polished and efficient. This remains a destination dining experience.
Always a wonderful experience. Dan and the entire team are the best in CT, hands down!
Amazing chef, service and restaurant overall. The food was truly prepared by a chef with serious skills and the entire staff around his kitchen were very friendly, attentive and fast. Would come back to visit Mystic just for this restaurant alone.
After reading reviews we expected a pricey meal with excellent quality. Our meals were
indeed pricey however the quality was considerably below our expectations.
My wife’s sweet potato soup was good however my creamy clam chowder was poor.
It seems like the chef forgot to add the cream to the mixture. It was very watered-down and tasteless. The potatoes were cooked and tender and the clams were far and few between . Both my wife and I ordered the fluke and both meals were served properly heated but both meals lacked any appropriate flavoring. An over abundance of capers did not add any excitement to the presentation. Both meals were moist but unexciting. The portions were adequate.
I ordered an appetizer for the table which was billed as deep fried duck which turned out to be ducks necks. There was approximately a quarter of an ounce or less of meat on each neck. Very unappealing .
The little meat that was served was tasty. Unfortunately I consider this experience to be very unenjoyable No dessert for us.
Recommended by a friend and it was as promised. Fabulous dinner.
Great food ! Outstanding Service!! Highly Recommend
I had a variety of local raw oyster, steamed mussels in coconut Lemongrass broth with lime and cilantro, and the Pan seared Fluke. All of it was top notch with great presentation. Thanks
My wife and I had an 8:30 reservation here for her birthday. We arrived at about 8:20 and had to wait until about 8:50 for our table as it was so busy. We didn’t mind at all. They did offer us a set at the bar, though, which would have had us seated around 8:40. We chose to wait for our table. While waiting, there was a small issue with one of the bartenders which was quickly and professionally resolved by who I assume was the manager. Whoever it was was quick to not only ask about the situons but to take action as well. I could not have been happier by her response.
As for the food, setvice, setting, etc. All I can say is that it was wonderful. Our waitress (Drew) was phenomenal. I’m not particularly good at being waited on as I’m a bit weird about service, but Drew was on a different level. She made you feel as if the night was made for you and yours and that no one else existed.
Service was quick, the noise level was great for this style of restaurant, and the food was simply delicious. It’s not one of those ultra creative, experimental type places. I had a fish dish and my wife a curry dish. Both were superb, and we would certainly order both again.
This was our first time in Mystic, but if we are ever back I would not hesitate to visit the Oyster Club again.
I booked this reservation in advance, letting them know it was our 30th Wedding Anniversary, asking for a corner table, and to not be placed near main stream of traffic. They even called the day before to confirm with me. Bottom line, service was not that great here. We had to check back with the hostess counter, to remind them that we were still waiting (15 minutes past reservation time), and the young hostess said, "oh yea, I am sorry, your table has been ready."...as if she forgot about us entirely??). There was NO consideration or "personal connection" when checking in, at all. ***They put us in the CENTER of the dining room, near a party of 20, young 20's women celebrating ??.....ALL of the traffic for the entire dining room had to pass our table. Bottom line: There will be NO consideration for special occasions here. It is just NOT their thing. NOT even a congrats, candle, dessert, or anything. Just come for the good food. FOOD is outstanding! But, do not come to celebrate ANY special occasion. It is not the place. This is for GOOD food, and drink place only! This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars! NO personal touches here. AMAZING FOOD!!
Chef James has one of the most creative and tasty menus in the entire state. We always know we will have a wonderful meal at the Oyster Club!
Inviting greet by staff
We were appreciative of attentiveness without feeling rushed
Divided portions we were sharing
Wait person was excellent on responses to a couple of questions
Mussels were excellent
Special steak was seasoned well (on a scale of 1 to 5 (highest) I would give a 4 (aged, cooked correctly to med rare) but a little tough
Pot de creme fabulous (5)
We went to the Oyster Club on a recommendation from a business associate and it turned out to be a excellent one. We shared a Mussels appetizer and ordered Fluke and a Veal Chop as entrees (the menu changes daily based on what can be sourced locally). All three dishes, as well as the service, were excellent . We will back on a future trip to Mystic and look forward to experiencing this restaurant again.
Perfect night to start my b day weekend! Every employee there is a delight. I had this aged steak that my husband & believe may have been the best steak we have ever eaten, and we “get around” food wise. Oh, and the wonderful starters of delicate blue cheese & asparagus, Thai soft shell crab, and a farmers salad of goat feta & tahini sauce. But please!!!! Don’t ever miss the homemade ice creams made weekly. Ours tonight were coffee/caramel & also cilantro/chili with a candle on top-of course.😍
The food was delicious. We had the grass fed steak, which was absolutely the best I have ever eaten anywhere. The mussels were sublime--- in a coconut broth with lime and cilantro. Everything - even the bread & butter was pure perfection. The almond cake was sinful... so rich and buttery it just melted in your mouth.
My one and only disappointment, is that the menu is so limited and doesn't seem to have changed much since the restaurant opened.
Best meal of our Mystic road trip.
Celebrated a special occasion in the Oyster Club proper. Excellent bonefish entrees and service. Relaxed rustic interior. If back in Mystic for a more casual meal, I’d like to hit the Treehouse.
Food was incredible. If you are visiting Mystic I highly recommend.
Was our first time in Mystic and found the Oyster Club on opentable. Made a reservation for brunch. Arrived and were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Russell, was very friendly and very welcoming. We told him it was our first visit to Mystic and he gave us great things to check out.
I got the poached eggs breakfast and it was phenomenal. Every bite was full of flavor and the serving was a great size. My fiancé had the pastrami sandwich and also said it was very good. (He’s can be picky sometimes)
Overall, if you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this gem. It’s cute and quaint. The service and food were fantastic and if we ever make it back to Mystic, Oyster Club is definitely where we’re going to eat.
A lovely atmosphere, friendly, efficient service and excellent food. A bit pricey, but worth it.
I have to eat gluten and dairy free and this was the first restaurant to served me a complete entry with a delicious sauce that's didn't make me sick. Kudos!
Great restaurant! Fantastic food, service, etc. We didn't even notice the noise level.
Fantastic service and great seafood. We especially loved the red shrimp app.
Terrific service, outstanding food. All around wonderful dining experience
The food was exquisite and the service was impeccable, I have never had such an amazing night.
I took my now girlfriend here for the first date and after that night, we are now together and I believe your amazing waiting staff really gave a 110% and I thank you for the great work and plan on dining at Oyster Club again.
The food is consistently great. Well presented and unique marrying of flavors, using local ingredients.
My daughters took me for a Mother’s Day treat and what a delightful treat it was!
I look forward to enjoying the Oyster Club in the future!
Have been the Mystic Oyster Club a number of times - it’s a must-go dinner or raw bar stop whenever I am in Mystic. It is consistently excellent. Menu changes daily. Fresh fish (as well as meats and vegetarian options), very well prepared with local farm ingredients. Very fresh raw bar. Craft cocktails and beers. Entree portions are generous. Comfortable upbeat atmosphere - not formal or stuffy. Just right. Excellent, friendly service. Best bowl of clam chowder, period. Brought my mother-in-law and her family for Mother’s Day and everyone loved it. Haven’t tried the Tree House outdoor seating yet. Waiting for better weather. Looking forward to it.
