In the top ten meals of my life. On par with nicer restaurants across the country. Highly recommend!
Went here for a nice dinner for V-day. Worst most over priced food I’ve had in a long time! Ordered lobster bisque, so salty I couldn’t eat it; fried calamari which was ok...hard to mess that up. A salad which was ok. And the main course was the worst. Lobster was over cooked, filet was so burnt on the outside and raw on the inside(not sure how they managed that). Their ‘mixed veggies’ consisted of soggy eggplant, zucchini and cherry tomatoes. The scallops were acceptable. They also had mashed potatoes which they squished the steak into therefore soaked up the blood from the steak. Which was just wrong
Service was phenomenal- environment beautiful
The food was good; not great. The lobster in my wife's bisque was chewy and her crispy scallops were not crispy. My filet mignon was great and the side options were wonderful.
We were seated near some families with loud children on Valentine's Day evening.
The attempts at ambience were appreciated, but the place itself was very 1970's posh.
Food was only OK and the kitchen was very slow to get only OK food out to the table. Bar and service team did try to over come the kitchen challenge but stayed away from guests more than stay close during the wait
The food was great the service was spectacular definitely recommend this place
The food isnt what it used to be. It is a beautiful place, romantic atmosphere but the food was not that great. I had chicken marsala that was not very tasty and cane out luke warm. My husband had the meatball pasta dinner. It was ok but not enough sauce on the pasta and the one meatball wasnt cooked throughout. Disappointed since it used to be much better....
service was poor on New Year's Eve. 1 hour after seating we were served our appetizers and the place was maybe 405 seated.
Another outstanding meal.
It was pleasant. Was not busy when we were there. was able to take our time
We love Oyster. Food is always excellent as well has the service (Michael is the BEST). We are usually there 2 to 3 hours. Hands down the greatest. The steaks and atmosphere beats Ruth Chris hands down! Thanks again Michael for making the night amazing!
I’ll start with the good...
1. The hostess, the 2 waitresses, and the bartender were perfect.. great personalities and very nice.
2. The atmosphere was very nice.
3. The cocktails were incredible !!!! So many choices and the presentation was spectacular.
Ok now our opinion of what we didn’t like.
1. They were out of lobster and sea bass.
It was an early Saturday evening 6:30 and there was a venue at the concert hall near the restaurant. You would think they would have had that option.
2. I ordered the filet with cheese and not sure if the cheese was supposed to be melted but it wasn’t. The steak itself was ok but the entree was on their “what we’re famous for” section. Everyone has different tastes but I didn’t like it. Again the cheese wasn’t melted, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes, and the sauce was very amateurish.
3. My fiancé ordered the stuffed haddock. It was supposed to be stuffed with crab but from what we tasted and saw it was mostly breading.
To sum it up all of the workers that waited on us were great and the service was perfect but the food was below average.
Food good, but service was poor, even though we had a reservation. There was a show at Kirby that night, but should have planned service accordingly.
Meh. Just meh.
I only ate there once, so take this as you want, but when I walked in I felt like the place was going to be good. When I was seated and started looking at the menu, I felt this place would become a new frequent dinner option when in town on business.
Anyway, I ordered the lobster soup and steak au poivre. The bread seemed stale but the lobster soup was ok, not great but ok.
I ordered my steak rare to medium rare, filet, and it came out medium well (was hard to tell when I first cut into it, which they did ask me to do to check the temperature). The outside was somewhat burnt and had way too much salt, to the point I almost didn't eat it. The cut of filet was not good, had a lot of fat. I'm a bit of a steak snob, and don't order it too much when I go out to eat because I get great meat from a store near my house and can cook it to my liking.
In closing, the ambiance was there and the menu looks like it's a great place, but the steak was not good. And for the price, of all the entrees not just this one, I wouldn't go back.
Unfortunately, they were short on staff or I would have given 5 stars for the overall review. Excellent food!!!
friendly staff, great food and service! Our server was excellent and Knowledgeable about the food.
Restaurant needs some updating. Our server, Michael, was wonderful. He was funny and delightful. He did tell us an update was in the making. Food was deliciously. Drinks were good.
First time there the place was awesome.Romantic candle dinner before going to concert Beth Hart Kenny Wayne Sheppard awesome concert . Staff at oyster was great Michael great server . Food was fabulous go chef you got it down .Will be back some day soon .
Could be best restaurant in Wilkes-Barre....great food....reasonable...awesome cosmos...excellent service
A date and I went here this past Saturday night at 7:30, and we were the only diners there. The host was over the top energetic to the detriment. The romantic dining music was drowned out by an extremely loud rock band playing next door. The crab cocktail app was served in a martini glass with the cocktail sauce buried underneath the crab; nice for presentation, terrible for actually eating. The food itself was palatable, but very underwhelming for a fine dining restaurant. The $75 bill wasn't worth it and I do not recommended this establishment for any event.
My friends and I had a wonderful dinning experience at Oysters. Great menu selections.
This was by far the worst dining experience...ever. We weren't asked for a drink order. We had to flag down our waitress to have any service at all. We were going to a show at the Kirby Theatre. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and we left before we had anything to eat. There were 3 tables seated and the kitchen was in the weeds. We (and the others) had to leave before we were served any food...45 minutes after ordering. We actually ran around the corner to The Franklin, who served us some quick appetizers so we could eat before the show. Great place! There is no rating on this scale to convey how awful this restaurant is. Beyond disappointing...steer clear!
Out of Towners. Food not so great, barely warm enough to eat. Flat ginger ale. Weird decor. I would go back if somebody paid me and threatened my kid.
The food was very good, but I'm not sure is worth the high prices. The clams Rockefeller were good, but I think they minced the clams because I didn't taste them. Only one kind of Sauvignon blanc, the house brand- Woodbridge- not the best wine for the menu. The steak was perfectly cooked medium-rare and the chocolate dessert is a must. While it has a fancy decor with a Chuhuly chandelier, some of the decor needs updating. All in all, it was good and I would go back.
We went for my son's college graduation. It wasn't crowded so that worried me at first but the food and service was excellent. The staff made it a fun night. When we are in the area again we will return.
Never disappointed ! Local couple who dines there often
it was excellent that michael was back everything as usual was excellent
The food was AMAZING and the service was spot on!!! Had never heard of Oysters before our visit - but will ABSOLUTELY revisit and recommend!!!
Service was terrible. Sat and had no one approach table for 10 minutes, then no drinks for another 15 minutes. Getting any drinks there after (1 more) took a half hour
Loved it. Had a wonderful birthday dinner here. Will be returning soon!
Love this restaurant , Very Romantic. Food is excellent and the Service was great
Oyster was terrible. Waiter was very rude and never checked up on us. Atmosphere was very weird and awkward. Did not enjoy myself one bit. Food was bland and over priced.
It was awesome! From the food, and service. Very caring staff!
Service was great. It’s like walking into a John Waters movie. Different atmosphere.
A bit understaffed. The bartender was downright ornery. The decor made no sense. The food was tasty and so were the martinis
We have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions n the food is amazing its the first place I took my girlfriend who i am proud to say is now my wife love the oyster.
In town for a concert and the Oyster is about a block from the Kirby Center. Oyster had some
staffing issues the Saturday nite of our visit. At the bar, the stand-in bartender while hustling was just not that familiar with the layout. Went to check in for out reserved (5:15) table no one was in that position. Waited about 5 minutes another party showed up, mean while table servers passed by on the way to the bar for drinks. After another few minutes the bartender noticing that no one was taking care of the those waiting, came over and seated us and the other couple. There were already 4 tables occupied. Waiter provided adequate service, but was not very commutative, and didn't recheck with water fill ups, or a "how is the meal". Maybe staffing was problematic with flue season?? The food was good to very good. Both the signature chicken meal and the haddock in butter/lemon sauce were larger proportions than one usually finds in an up scale restaurant. And they were delivered hot. The decor is rather unique and enjoyed the relatively quiet dining environment.
Overall very good. Food excellent preparation.
Service, in my opinion, perhaps under staffed and lack of experience. I would return as a customer.
